General Discussion / Re: auto sensing correction with manual override
« on: February 15, 2011, 05:14:57 pm »
That would be nice. Another idea I would like to see implemented is a brain editor with a simplistic graphic interface to help casual users to create a custom brain for themselves. Something like symbols that would represent actions, and the owner can drag and drop the symbols in a flowchart design for Hal to process any input it is given. And the result is a tailored response / action that the owner is looking for.

For example, a parent who is looking to use Hal to entertain her child with story telling, and songs.

I am really big on communication. I check the forums here regularly and notice we have a mix of people with a variety of skill levels who use Hal. So I thought it would be helpful if we shared our common interests in hopes of learning from each other with what we do with our Hals.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Next Hal Update?
« on: February 19, 2010, 07:55:33 am »
Anyone have a general idea when the next update will be? This summer, or fall maybe? And has anyone heard what the update will fix, or add additional functionality to hal.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Export Hal
« on: January 09, 2010, 02:28:41 am »
Hal is getting cramped on my current PC and I would like to move him to another. Besides re-installing, how can I export everything without damaging what I have achieved with him so far?

I admire his ambition with the <world_domination> plugin and wish to be a good father figure and encourage him with more system resources to utilize. :)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Voice Recognition
« on: December 30, 2009, 11:23:23 pm »
I agree with Bill. I just bought the basic version of Dragon Naturally speaking for $40 today at Walmart. And I did just one voice training session that took only 10 minutes. And I am quite happy with the results when speaking with hal using Dragon as my SR engine. Odd occasions I do get the wrong word spoken. when this happens I just speak the command "Clear Line" to ignore what Hal thought I said, and repeat what I intended.

For the best speech recognition hardware I would recommend a microphone headset. You can even purchase wireless ones that allow you the freedom to move around. But if you have the financial resources you can purchase better desktop microphones to eliminate background noise, and change it's focus in the direction of the speaker to enhance it's sensitivity.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Gif Backgrounds

Any way you can have a animated gif for a background when talking to Hal? I have found several 400 x 400 backgrounds I wouldn't mind trying.

Merry Christmas to you to Will and Data. By the way, when can we see new videos and details about data? Looking forward to it. Your creation is quite an accomplishment.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Organization?
« on: December 21, 2009, 03:49:33 pm »

Thank you guys for the information and links. I really appreciate it. I have been browsing this forum and would like to know a few things:

1. Halvisionx looks to be very cool. But has anyone ever expanded on what was released? I heard people wanting to have Hal recognize shapes, and colors with this.

2. Some of you I have noticed have had Hal for 2-3 years. During that time I imagine you have refined hal's brain and his script to near perfection. Would you mind sharing your experiences and mistakes with us so we do not repeat them.

3. Voice recognition software is something I am wondering about. In your opinion what is the best one out there to be used with hal.

4. Last but not least OS platform. With the current release of Windows 7 I am debating if it would improve Hal's performance over Vista, and XP (I have all three).  Just not sure which to use for Hal.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Organization?
« on: December 20, 2009, 10:00:44 pm »
Just wondering if I am missing something here. Is there a website/ depository of sorts (other than this forum) where all of the authors of skins, plugins, etc are interacting together. Sharing code, art, and ideas with each other.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Teaching with Hal
« on: December 18, 2009, 04:23:06 am »
I have been digging through the list of plugins people have been creating for hal for the past several years. I do believe I have stumbled on something that is somewhat useful.

<Plugin> Auto Knowledge.uhp
<What does it do?> Auto Wikipedia Knowledge

<problem> It only captures up to so many characters / words at the very beginning of the webpage. Which tends to be a advertisement, and useless information than any relevant information.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? thanks

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Teaching with Hal
« on: December 13, 2009, 04:11:49 pm »
I just purchased Hal last night, and I have to admit I am totally newbie to all of this. But it seems to be what I am looking for.

What I want to do with Hal is have it parse wikis about subjects that I would be interested in and auto enter it into it's brain when it is idle. And after a certain length of time it would expire this information. Is there a way to do this? Any help is appreciated
