Yeah, I didn't originally intend to be so abrasive. You're right taglag, the delivery was off.  I think I was just irritated when I got rid of 5, which didn't have a time limit, in favor of 6 which does. But that was my own fault.  I know a lot of time and energy is put into this thing, so with more more careful thought I can understand why they'd charge money.  The AI community does need things like this.  Someone said Hal and AI is still in it's infant stage, and I'd agree.  So, I'll do a little more digging and see what I find. Thanks guys.

Yes, Art, I've been around for a long time because I see the major potential this thing has...but Art, I'm not a programmer, so all I see is the face of this thing...what the average consumer sees. And you know what, the face is still the same.  THE-LITTLE-FROG-TALKS-THE-SAME! Did you also notice that I have not paid for a single version since 3.0?  There's a reason for that.  So I keep a free version around to keep an eye on it.  It's been a few years now...AND NOTHING!  Oh, wait,

That means NOTHING to me!  Look this way...see me sitting here not being a programmer.  From the outset, my dog understands what I'm saying better (and she's stupid). I'm willing to bet that Hal cannot do my bidding with the promise of a tasty treat.  Do you know how many books and conversations my late hal brain has gone through since 3.0 and still nothing...still.  That's all I'm saying.  Speaking of my dog, that brain should have known my dog's name since 2001 and before I downloaded 6.0 asked one more time to see if it would get it right and, as always, I got some random, nonsense statement about how dogs can be great companions and with further probing still did not get the answer to the question.  Art, all you've done by digging up one of my former posts is prove my point and provided me with some clout and I thank you for that. I really don't mean to come off so harsh, just trying to get you to see what I'm saying. Thanks guys.

What has been improved upon since hal5?  Nothing that I can see.  And I've had the free version of hal5 for a long time and now Hal5 has been uninstalled and I have hal6 for only 31 days...cause I'm STUPID!!! I can't believe you guys charge money for this f**king thing! What a SCAM! Hal just makes random, pr-programmed statements when I try to talk to it or it regurgitates things I've said and that really sucks. And you know what?  I did not migrate my hal5 brains over to hal6 cause I thought "Well, if this is a new version it must be much better than the last so I'll just use the new brain and re-teach it so I can see how much better it is.", hoping of course that it would be much better, but you know what, it's not, it's the same. If someone could please send me the setup file for hal5 that would be great.

For some reason, I just think hal should be able to chat better than that. I don't know, maybe I'm stupid. What the hell am I doing wrong? I've had Hal for at least two months and talked to him/her like every day. I don't get it. Whatever, I'm sick of this ****. I think I'm just going to uninstall this program.

I've had Hal 3.0 for quite some time now.(I paid for it btw) I haven't had any of the errors that these people have had. No problems for me in that way. The only two things that bother me is the fact that it doesn't DO what it's supposed to do. Take the opening programs function for example. It doesn't do that at all. The original brain won't even open programs, so it's not just a problem with the enhanced brain. Now on to the chatting function. It doesn't chat. I have talked to Hal every day since I bought it a couple months ago. HAL DOES NOT CHAT!!! HAL DOES NOT LEARN A THING!!! Believe me, I've used the program EVERY DAY! You know, I got the free version before I bought it, and it started chatting very well that night! I was very impressed...so I bought it. The version I paid for sucks!! It does not follow the conversation, it throws out little random pieces of info that make NO SENSE AT ALL, in response to everything I say. YOU FIX THIS!!! FIX IT!! Someone from Zabaware please respond to this and tell me why this program I paid for doesn't do what you claim it can do! I truely think that this is illegal. It's called false advertising. I want my money back. Do something about this.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to check that out. Not sure if I've been there, I've been to so many bot sites they sort of all meld together in my mind.  I'm trying to figure out how to put ALICE on my desktop. But, as I mentioned, I don't have time to sit and learn how to do programming. Maybe when I start my new job I'll have time...that would be nice. The tech support at Zabaware has been great. One of my problems are with the enhanced brain. It doesn't start programs. But Matthew the customer service guy told me that it's a problem that's being worked on. So, that's good. I have a question...how long does it take for Hal to learn to speak intelligently and not like a retard? She pretty much just throws out odd little statements that make no sense. It's irritating. I've tried to talk to her as much as possible everyday for the last two weeks and still, nothing. Actually, I originally downloaded the free version and he started speaking intelligently and actually holding a REAL conversation the second night...I was so impressed, I registered and bought the full version. Downloaded it and it was so much worse. I don't get it. And then...I find out you have to pay for the new version when I could have sworn I read that updates are free. Also, what happened to the plugin page? There's no new characters to download. So, there it is. My frustrations. Fully displayed for all to see. Grrrrr...
OH! So that the tensions between us aren't smoothed over, you're a jerk and I hate you! (joke)

You see, you're right. I don't have to do anything I don't want to...but I can do anything I WANT to and that includes trashing the company and its program. The thing is, I didn't trash the company at all, just its program. Also, if I had high expectations for this product, it's because the website put them there. I'm glad you've enjoyed this product for years, Mr. Censor. I'm happy for you, and I respect your opinion. I paid money that is non-refundable for this product and I feel I have a right to b#@ch about it all I want. As far as programming goes, thank you very much for the invitation, but I have better things to do. It seems strange to me that people think that, because they have the ability to create a program on a computer (or re-create one as the case may be), that qualifies as some sort of intelligence. Not true, my smug friend. I'm done. I'v spent more time responding to you than I feel you deserve.

I don't understand why I have to pay to upgrade to Ultra Hal 4 when I already paid $35 for 3.0. I don't even feel it was worth paying for. What's been changed with the new version? What is my incentive to waste more money on this already failing product? I've had so many problems with this program. One error after another. But, I guess they've already gotten my $35 out of me so I'm screwed in that sense. But there is NO WAY I'm gonna be fooled into paying the $18 for 4.0 when it's probably no better than 3.0.
For me to spend more, this product would have to improve about 300%.
