Mr. Medeksza: Can't find msvcrtd.dll debug
« on: January 30, 2005, 01:44:25 pm »
Mr. Medeksza,

I found and installed (debug) versions of mfco42d.dll and mfc42d.dll from dll-files.com in C-Windows-System 32, but dll-files.com has no debug version of msvcrtd.dll

I still cannot access the pronounciation dictionary in the Text to Speech Reader for Neospeech Kate.

Where can I get the (debug) msvcrtd.dll in order to get this working? I did install the (standard) msvcrtd.dll from dll-files.com but it would seem it does not work as the pronounciation dictionary is still not accessible.

(If anyone has the correct msvcrtd.dll (or an answer to this glitch could you post a copy of the .dll a link to get it and/or an answer to my little problem here?)

There are more files missing, and I'm not sure what they are. Installing Microsoft Visual Studio 98 would fill in all the missing files, but that is an expensive solution.

I will write to NeoSpeech and ask them to simply compile a "release" version of the dictionary editor.

citrinedragon,
If you have the correctly named msvcrtd.dll file then you have the correct debug version. I checked out the downloadable debug file at dll-files.com and it has a fairly recent file version number of 6.8.337.0, so if that's what you have then it should be a good one. If the file has that letter "d", for debug, within the file name then it is the correct file. However, you may have gotten a corrupt download so here is the debug file I got from dll-files.com:
Download Attachment: msvcrtd.zip
162.15 KB

If you still have problems after placing the file in C:/WINDOWS/System32 then you can also try placing the file in just C:/WINDOWS or somewhere within the actual directory from where the file is being called from which can be either:

C:/Program Files/Zabaware/HalReader/Kate/lib
or
C:/Program Files/Zabaware/Hal Reader/Kate
or
C:/Program Files/Zabaware/Hal Reader

Even if the file is not being reported as missing you may still need to place it somewhere within the software program's directory if things just are not working. It is not uncommon for a .dll file to be located somewhere within the path of where the software application is installed. So you can try navigating through the Hal Reader program with Windows Explorer and look to see if you can find any other .dll files within any other folders, and if you do find some other .dll files contained anywhere within the Hal Reader directory then you can try placing the msvcrtd.dll file with the other dll files. You can also try placing the other two .dll files somewhere within the main program directory as well.

As Robert already indicated you just may need to wait for whatever else you need from NeoSpeech to get things working, but you can still try what I just suggested or try doing that uninstall/reinstall and then see what happens.
Good Luck,
Rich

Mr. Medeksza-

Thank you. Having a "release" version would be agreat idea and very helpful for your customers (including me).

Rich A-

Thanks I'll try those solutions. I wasn't aware the "d" stood for debug. Odd, but when I originally installed the three .dlls in System 32 they all had "d" for debug (yet it didn't work). Not knowing the "d" stood for debug, I went back to dll-files.com and searched for "mfco42d.dll debug" and "mfc42d.dll debug" and it gave me downloads; but when I asked for "msvcrtd.dll debug" it said no file was found. No wonder I'm confused. Something is a bit illogical there, no? If msvcrtd.dll "is" the debug version why did it say it was not available when I asked for "msvcrtd.dll debug"? Oh well. These things are never set up to be comprehensible to the uninformed.

I will just keep working on it. I will download your copy and try it; but perhaps I'm still missing something else (other than my mind).

Thanks to both of you for your help.

Mr. Medeksza, Rich A, everyone-

I tried various things: replacing my msvcrtd.dll with Rich's copy; moving the .dll files around; reloading the Text to Speech Reader; nothing seems to let me use the pronounciation dictionary. Everything else seems to work fine with it. I think I'll just wait for you to get a "release version" as you mentioned Mr. Medeksza. I'm getting kind of tired of trying to make it work.

So then, I will wait for the "release version." Hopefully that will fix it. If not I'll just have to get the "Visual Studio 98." It's certainly worth waiting for. The Hal Text to Speech Reader is basically an extremely good product. The Neospeech voice is great.

Thanks again for all the help. You are both very helpful.

Mr. Medeksza-

Your analysis that something else is missing sounds correct. Not that I would know; but it sounds correct at this point.

Mr. Medeksza

Why not jest tell them look,

1.Right click on Hal by the clock
2. go to General Options...
3. From the General tab Box click on the Box mark

Hal should speak clipboard contents when something new is copied <-------- click on this from there.

Now hi-lite the words you want Hal to reed then right click on the hi-ited words you want Hal to read when you right click now you see where it say's in the popup

cut
copy <---------- click on this from there.
paste

You dont need to have your clipboard open for this to work.
Now who needs to by NeoSpeech lol,^]
Will maybe for it's speech synthesis voice[?]

moreis62-

With all due respect perhaps you should try Text to Speech Reader with NeoSpeech and you would more clearly see the point. This is a truly excellent product. The NeoSpeech voices are really quite superb.
