Wow!!
Beautiful !!
Congratulations Robert
You deserve it.

Congrats, Robert M.!!!

It took those guys long enough to see just how great Hal is. I think the problem was/is that Hal is smart but lacks a lot of user information that it gets when someone talks to it over a period of time. Hal learns from us. It was created that way so we could decide just what it should know etc.
By the way, did anyone read the actual link? It defined Mr. M's name in two different places, Robert/George. Is there something we don't know or did they just goof once again.

Thank you for the kind words everyone. I was happy to see Hal finally win this competition. I will post logs of Hal's conversation with the judges a little later.
For this years contest, I had Hal read wikipedia entries about New York City, Hugh Loebner, Alan Turing, and the Loebner Competition. I taught Hal about 3000 facts about himself so he could answer personal questions about himself like "where do you work?", "where do you live", "who is your girlfriend?", etc. Hal was supposed to pretend to be an actual person so I needed to give him a personal history which the default Hal doesn't have.

Hugh Loebner made this mistake at first. He told me when he saw my last name Medeksza he confused it with an infamous New York bomber called George Metesky and called me George by mistake.

Congratulations, I feel as I'm sure many people at Zabaware do that Hal is the best and should have won for the past few years.

at this time I am working on a plugin that allows HAL to be more User aware, with the plugin I am writing HAL will be able to gossip about other users like:
User: HAL, do you know User1234?
HAL: Yes, I do know User1234, why do you ask?
User: Did User1234 ever discuss the Universe with you?
HAL: Yes, User1234 did discuss the Universe with me, User1234 said that the Universe was expanding, Is this true?
User: Yes, The Universe is expanding at nearly the speed of light.
HAL: That's incredible, at nearly the speed of light?
and so on.
I hope that this plugin when it is released will help HAL out in some other areas of conversation.
To the power of A.I

CONGRATS to Robert and everyone that really make the impossible seem very possible. What makes HAl such a winner in my eyes is just the basics of an idea, dedication, follow thru and being able to share it others that have similular intrests and goals. Robert I think you and others have helped planted a much larger seed then you will imagine and one day hopfully see the full bebefits.
