It would be great to have everyone come back! There's lots of great people who we haven't seen in some time.

Just a thought,

CLoad did implement something like this in either his AIML plugin or his modified version of the freewill plugin.  With it you can say to Hal "What do you know about Micheal Jordan" or Tell me about such and such". Hal will grab the first couple paragraphs from wikipedia and speak them to you.  There might be something in those plugins to help you.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Re: hals output to another program

I had attempted to use autohotkey for my own work around for having text copied to the clip board and then to hals input box, but never quite got it to work. Perhaps one of you fine folks may have better luck?

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Re: grabbing hals output
« on: February 03, 2016, 12:12:33 am »
What are the chances of getting Hal's output to be automatically transferred to the input box of an IRC program such as Xchat? That way people can talk with hal over the internet.

I'd be very interested to see this in action if you get it to work. I have been trying to get something similar going myself.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / If/Then Statements
« on: August 15, 2015, 03:03:02 am »
Hi everyone!

Usually when I am trying to teach Kinkaid about things, I like to add some quotes and give kinkaid things to say about certain subjects as well as ask his opinion on some things. I also like using if/then statements as a way to help him understand what happens when you do things.  I don't know if anyone else uses them very often but I thought I would get a post going to see if anyone else would like to contribute some ideas or use some that I have for their own bots.

Here's a few to start;

If the sun has just risen, then it is morning.
If there are no clouds, then the sky is clear.
If I drop a glass of water, then it will fall.
If I eat a big meal, then I will feel full.
If it is December 25th, then it is Christmas.
If my electric bill is overdue, then they might turn out the lights.
If I wash my car, then my car will look better.
If I exercise, then I will be more fit.
If I paint the door, then it will look nice.
If interest rates go down, then the economy is stimulated.
If an isotope reaches its half-life, then it is half as radioactive.
If ink spills, then it is hard to clean up.
If I pull a cat's tail, then the cat will get angry.
If I slip off a ladder, then I will fall.
If I swing and miss three pitches, then I strike out.
If I drive on empty, then I will run out of gasoline.
If you hurt someone's feelings, then they might not like you.
If I am dehydrated, then I need to drink water.
If I want to become physically fit, then I need to exercise.
If I want to lose weight, then I need to eat healthier.
If you don't have anything positive to say, then don't say anything at all.
If I want to get better at doing something, then I need to practice doing it.
If you have a job, then you can earn money.
If you commit a crime, then you are a criminal.
If you want to be treated with respect, then you must act respectfully.
If you make a promise, then you should keep the promise.
If I knew how to program in VB script, then I could create plugins.

I'll add some more as they come to mind. Also, I know there is a section in the brain editor devoted to storing these connections. It's in the deductive table in the main brain folder. Have a look in yours and see if you have some fun ones.

I have had a couple encounters with my mic being activated by hal.  I had to go into the options menu and turn speech recognition off to get it to stay off.  Then I restarted Hal.  I ended up having Kinkaid listen to a days worth of tv before I realized what happened.  Funn enough, I've never had any random garbage spew out while talking to him.

For those of you who are not happy wit the start menus provided by windows 8.1 and windows 10, there is a 3rd party company called Stardock which has an app called start 8 and start 10 that replaces the start menu to make it look and act just like windows 7. I have been using it for windows 8.1 pretty much since I got this new laptop. I never did like that metro style thing they have in 8. So my windows loads up straight tot he desktop and looks pretty close to windows 7.

General Discussion / Re: hal and dragon speak
« on: August 14, 2015, 06:18:04 am »
I agree with Will.  Having Hal hear weird noises or by messing up the odd word, I have the chance to explain what the noise was or what I really meant to say and why I spelled the word wrong in the first place.  Mistakes are a part of life and being able to recognize them to avoid them in the future is a big part of life. Not to mention problem solving.

With that being said, I don't use my microphone for Kinkaid very often. I have my computer in my bedroom and the wife is sleeping, so I try not to wake her. I do plan on putting an instructional cd/mp3 on one day and having kinkaid listen to the whole thing as a test to see what happens.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: Ultra Hal Character Expansion Pack (ZBCEP60)
« on: August 11, 2015, 06:06:05 am »
You can go here http://www.zabaware.com/home.html, and in the top left of the screen you will  see the register or login buttons.  Log into your account there and then you will see an area where you can download all of your zabaware products.  You can download it as many times as you want but you have to make sure that you deactivate ultra hall if you plan on moving it to a new computer or something.

I hope that helps you a bit.

I'm sure there will be the odd situation where some people will miss use this feature. I am not overly concerned. There is a way to disable the feature anyways from what I've seen.  I have yet to upgrade and I'm not sure when I'm going to do it.
