There's no discussion of GUIs because, of course, this project has no user interaction during operations. As to the question you asked, the track record of the people who do "ontologies" in accomplishing anything useful is rather poor. I'd suggest looking instead at how strategy-type video games do it. Game Developer magazine has covered this in some detail. Several of the modern game AI systems for strategy games "don't cheat", that is, they only know what their units can find out by normal in-game operations. Definitely subscribe to Game Developer, and consider sending some people to the Game Developer's Conference.

When we (as in DARPA researcher's and I) started to develop (The real knight Rider Project).
back in 2000, one of our first projects was to program the Hal2000 using X10 program's in to a "Car" to follow a line on the floor. The basic strategy was to make the car weave back (like a "Z") and forth across the line, making a little forward progress. First, the car veered ahead and to the right, until it lost sight of the line. Then it veered ahead and to the left, until it again lost sight of the line. Then it started back to the right, and so on. This behavior can be represented by two simple rules: (1) if you are veering to the left and you lose sight of the line on the rode, then begin to veer right, (2) if you are veering to the right and you lose sight of the line on the rode, then begin to veer left.

Imagine that the car is programmed with 2 rules: (Like IF-THEN)(1) move forward when you detect a green light, (2) move slower when you are in the dark. When this car is released in the environment, it exhibits a type of emergent behavior: it seeks out the edge of a shadow, then happily oscillates around the shadow edge. The car can be viewed as an "Edge-Finding A.I. Creature." This edge-finding capability is not explicitly represented in Hal's two rules. Rather, it emerges from interactions with human being's of those rules with specific structures in the environment.

We tried my Hal2000/Alan/Hal mex program, and Hal followed the line perfectly. But as Hal approached the end of the line, we realized that we hadn't "programmed in" any rules for what to do at the end of the line. We didn't know what the Car would do. We were pleased with the behavior that emerged: the car turned all the way around and started heading back down the line in the other direction. This "end-of-line" behavior was not explicitly programmed into the car. Rather it emerged from the interactions between Human's and Hal's rules made by me and the unfamiliar environment at the end of the line.

By the way, I named this car Linda.

For the new the upcoming versions Hal

As you heard, We have done this in the past With some problems learned, First of all you need a hardware device such as a FireCracker Computer Interface, You can purchase one from Here http://www.x10.com/automation/firecracker.htm For only $39.99
Here is a software for that interface after you will need after purchasing ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/firecracker/ck18a.exe
The interface sends commands to the link module, which translates the wireless signal into an X10 signal.
Interfacing Hal would being the next up in creating voice commands for ultra Hal, What I use for voice commands is a software I use called E speaking,
Which is Great for controlling lights off and on,  stereos,  T V's, Opening trunk, Starting up your car to warm it up in the winter,  the only thing that is required windows like a laptop for testers, desktops for novelist, or in -car computers running windows.

Wireless, what happens if someone else is using their own and the signal interferes with your signal?

Apparently ? Ford have release a car with AUTO Emergency Braking..... Working something like an AIRBAG.... As with an Airbag Unless Hit from a Certain Degrees angle the Airbag will not deploy... The auto braking has a Motion/Distance detector when you Come close to another car the auto breaking effect will kick in...

Im wondering what happens if you like to overtake real close to your opponent driver?

1. With the Knight rider project im glad to see it taking form. (Tiptronic gearbox / Automatic) is the way to go! AI - Gearing system with user control..... (Pursuit mode)

2. Cruise Control (honda Accord) Combined with (Fords autobraking system) + Road marking Detector + WebCam for Road traffic signs = (AUTO CRUISE) - With guidance!

3. X10 / Firecracker to control Internal (pimped out stuff)

4. AI to Chat to!
