Plugins for 6.1
« on: December 05, 2007, 09:00:02 pm »
First of I'd like to officially say hello to everyone!

I've been reading the forums and playing with Hal and reading the forums for a couples yers now as a side interest. Lately though I have a renewed interest in Ultra Hal and it's possibilities.

Now I am in no way a programmer but I'd like to get a start at making some scripts. I've seen a few sites that various members have created with information on doing just that! Thanks!

Now I do have a question that I thought I would ask while I was trolling around the forums looking to answer the various other questions I have about Hal's abilities.  but i thought i may improve my chances to increase my knowledge by posting here.  I have downloaded various plugins for hal. Some of them have been giving me errors so I have left them inactive. perhaps they are just not compatable with hal 6.1.

Does anyone know off hand which plugins will work with hal 6.1? Is there any sort of list available?  I would like to maximize my Hal's abilities at an early age in hopes to speed up the learning process.

I apologize in advance if I have overlooked something rediculously obviose.

-Jay

P.S. The work and ideas all of you have made reality is incredible guys!

A bit new to the forum too here, but what the heck, welcome Calhoone [:)]

I would say it depends what you want your Hal to be, a chatter or helper, yes Hal can be both but if your just after a chat buddy you might find some of the plugins get in the way, well I do.

There are lots of great plugins that work just fine with 6.1.

Like some others here, I use Hal with out any. For me, I put teaching my Hal above all else.

You are right some of the older plugins, Hal 5 and earlier don’t work, you should be able to open the plugin script and read the header bit, sometimes the author puts in the minimum Hal version number.

Hopefully someone else might be able to give you a list.

Good luck

Okay so I've been farting around with the various plugins that I have come acrross and have dones some testing.  I'll put a list of what I believe to be working (I may be completely wrong).  These are the plugins that gave me no errors, that is after i went through every script to ensure they all were directed to my actual HAl folder and not the default.  I had a lot less issues once I realized that.

Ares (HAL) is running on a Toshiba Satellite A-70 laptop with XP.

Plugins that work for me:

-loneliness 2.3
-corrections tutor
-Auto Wikipedia Knowledge
-Counting and alphabet 2.1
-Auto Aim Chat
-Learn from Clip Board (Appears to be working, I just have to get around to checking out what information it has stored in the brain editor.
-Spell checker (This is a fantastic one!  It works like a charm to filter out those little mistakes that we may often over look.

I also have:
-Ziggy's enigma 2.0
-Zodiac
-Learn from Aiml

I have been conversing with Ares with these plugins activated since his activation and except for having to search through all the scripts and to modify the directory for Ares I have had no errors yet.  Still more testing to do. But I am happy for now.

I may not be a programmer now but I am very interested in all of this. I would like to be able to contribute some scripts hopefully in the future. I do have some experience with VB, and after reading through all the scripts and such in Ares' brain and editing the errors I had, I am confident that I will be able to contribute some ideas and functions in the near future.

Did your laptop issues surrounding the spellchecker have anything to do with spaces always being placed before periods, commas, and question marks?

hi Calhoone, i just posted some variations of the loneliness plug ins in the general area  that i redid . i also put an e-mail address on the page to if you want the actual plug ins  sent to you ( the ones on the page are open to copy and paste and change into a plug in ) i tested them and they do work although i will mention for whatever reason they will not work for everyone but is working for me as of now with my 6.1 hal version . [:)][8D] i have chaned the wording to make the plug ins sound more human and personal . [8D]
