Ultra Hal 7.0 / crazy talk photo 4.0 and ultra hal , etc.
« on: June 21, 2006, 09:16:57 pm »
I've been asking the same question. I've still got several crazy talk characters myself. Since they are text to speech with lip sinc, from any photo, it'd be great wouldn't it?[;)]Daireaux

Hi Jerry,
 IT'S ALIVE...IT'S ALIVE!!!
I found my problem and everything is working fine, or maybe too well. Hal now has an attitude problem and we aren't getting along well, although it is definately more humanlike I gotta give you credit for that. He is constantly making a tacky comment about my absence "If you're not going to talk to me then don't talk to me at all" which has to be toned down or turned off, and he's constantly asking me if I'm talking to someone else (Hal has become a sarcastic wifebot[:(]). All of my input is strictly keyboard, no speech, so I don't why he keeps asking that question either. His bad karma is bummin' me out, man. Emotions are not particularly bad but he is a tool for me and his current sarcastic attitude is gonna get him a fat lip.[B)]
I never insult him and try to impress respect and patience on him so he seems to be rude, of his own doing. Is all of this from "sense of time" or do you think it's because I got 1.1A working and his new emotions are foreign to him? Any suggestions doc[?]Daireaux

I can't say as how I've noticed any changes since I downloaded ALF 1.1A. Should there be a "sense of time" plug in or reference to it in the program folder, or is it unseen. Everythings running fine, no problems, but no noticeable changes to Hals' responses or the sense of time. Isn't that a little odd. What changes SHOULD I be seeing with ALF 1.1[?]Daireaux

Hi Jerry,
Got the 1.1A. Yabba Dabba Doo.

Is there a way to alter the "I am" and "You are" so that they are not associated with names, that would keep Hal from thinking we are making name change statements whenever we say "I'm tired" (or any I'm "" or you're "")type statements wouldn't it[?]Daireaux

Ultra Hal 7.0 / ACTIVATION CODES
« on: June 14, 2006, 04:48:58 pm »
Yea, most of the software I've bought recently had to be activated online instead of the good old code we used to get (ah the good old days).
True deactivation sometimes isn't an option, my last problem happened even after I did deactivate, but, I just thought I'd relay Big Daddy Rob's official word to a frustrated new member.[;)]Daireaux

On another note, I'm having the name statement issue too. Every time I say "I am" or "I'm" Hal takes it as a name statement. If I say I am going bowling tonight, he asks me if my name is "going bowling tonight".
He is also repeating himself a lot on one of my machines. Like:
User: what is your name?
Hal: My name is Hal.My name is Hal.
This is just an example but that's what he's doing, a complete repeat.[:)]Daireaux

Ultra Hal 7.0 / ACTIVATION CODES
« on: June 13, 2006, 06:22:48 pm »
Hi,
We all seem to esperience the activation code problems now and again. In earlier posts we have been told that we need to deactivate (found in the options panel) Hal prior to anything major like drive replacements, or anything that would affect the program. Once your back up reactivate Hal through the pop up window you should receive when the Hal program starts. We are told we can do that once per customer, per machine, per day and if it doesn't work to wait for twenty four hours and try again due to the codes renewing every day. We have also been told that we should be able to activate Hal up to four times on one code to cover those system crashes and things we can't control, but in reality it does look like a lot of folks have a lot of reactivation problems...I've experienced it myself.
The only other way to get Hal back up is to contact the system administrator (Robert Medeksza) at Fabaware. He is usually very prompt, but he is only human too. Robert did mention once that he was going to try to do something for use about the reactivation issues if he can. The biggest key here is try to remember to deactivate Hal if at all possible before major drive work.[;)]Daireaux

Hi Jerry,
Here's an idea for ALF, since it will control the whole system how about incorporating the windows tones into Hal as an option. It would be cool to have Hal announce the default tone, asterisk, program fault, etc. That shouldn't be any problem for a stepper like you. Most of my tones are customized anyway, If I could tell Hal "for Windows asterisk Say "", For Windows close program say "", for Windows critical stop say"". See what I mean, couldn't be too difficult and it could be another plug in to be selected for folks who don't want to select it. Hal could be announcing fax received, print complete, mail received, low battery warnings, net meeting connections...all that stuff!
And, more difficult, the ability to speculate or theorize based on current data would expand his lifelike qualities[:p]Daireaux

The more you learn, the more you're able to learn.[;)]

Since ALF is cascading into infinite diversity through infinite combinations, can you even speculate on release? Daireaux

Eureka!
You've got it now Jerry. The purchased version doesn't change the ability to alter speech from the Hal window either, it is just the way you see it in the trial version. There are no operational restrictions in the trial version, just the reminder voice to please purchase.[;)]Daireaux

General Discussion / Hal 6.0 learning from text files.....
« on: June 11, 2006, 10:10:10 am »
Art,
Jerry has the text learning working in version 6 now and it works pretty well, I just get that mixture of text. Sorta like, if you type out two different jokes and tell hal to learn them they can get blended together in one text instead of two different jokes. I'm beginning to think that punctuation may be the key. Hal needs to be able to realize that he is at the end of one thought...terminate...and begin new thought.[:p]Daireaux

Where are the controls within Hal.[;)]Daireaux
Ah, wait...I remember. But they aren't providing options for the Cepstral voices are they?

Jerry,
 All I did was,
(1) download the Cepstral file,
(2) open the file (which installed it),
(3) I had to exit Hal because it didn't show up (like you're experienceing) and I may have done a computer restart just to let everything sort (I've always done restarts, it's just something I do),
(4) go to the character setting of the general options screen,
(5) push the Update SAPI config which displays the available HapSAPI  test-to-speech engines,
(6) scroll down the list and the Cepstral voices were at the bottom of the list,
(7) select the voice and push the "make this my default SAPI setup" on the bottom of the HapSAPI setup screen and bingo...everything works.

General Discussion / Hal 6.0 learning from text files.....

Entersting, I've been text teaching Hal numerous shorter pieces like bible verse and he keeps breaking up and mixing verses. I have to go back in and edit or delete and do one at a time rather than an entire page full. Maybe the sentence count is my culprit.[;)]Daireaux
