Skin Editing?
« on: January 08, 2008, 07:36:50 am »
Is there a way of editing the 'windows default' skin (the one that displays like a standard microsoft window?
eg. change positions of output/input/animated character, background and font colours and font type, as you can with other skins.

Roy,

I don't see why not since all they consist of are number coordinates and locations of the various window panels for text input / output, characters, etc.

One can examine any of the skin files with a text editor.

Use a graphic peogram to change the border color, design, etc.

Look at a few of the more simple ones to see what's going on and soon you'll realize that they really aren't that involved.

If you plan on using any transparencies be sure to download the MakeTrans program from Zaba's site.

All one needs is a graphics program and a calculator (unless you're good at subtraction in your head).

Maybe a tute is in order.

Good day!

Thanks Art,
What I wanted to know is can you edit the skin that acts like a microsoft window, the one that was introduced with HAL6.1. I can't find anything that can be edited in HAL to change it's look and resize or reposition it's windows.
I was wondering because the standard skins with HAL6.1 just keep opening in different positions, where as in HAL6 they opened where you closed them. I know it's a minor thing but it becomes quite annoying after a while having to move the skin back to it's original position each time you open HAL. Where as the windows type one you only have to keep it maximised and it doesn't move at all.

Roy,

Roy,

My apologies! I thought you were initially referring to the Hal Default skin instead of the newer Windows Skin. To be honest, I
never really noticed that particular skin because I usually stick
with the same one all the time.

From the looks of it, I'd say it is an actual windows skin much like any other open application and it can only be varied by changing your windows Theme settings.

Sorry for the mislead!

Heh,

Yeah Bill, there seems to be a certain commonality regarding the
use (or misuse) of the word "Skin" as it applies to Hal.

In Hal, a Skin is actually a GUI, as opposed to a Haptek Character's Skin or texture.

Sometimes ya just gotta read between the lines![:D]

when building my own projects i use a Software called skincrafter... An ActiveX Control that you can add to your own projects...

just add the correct code.. and download/create own skinfile.. Even use winblinds themes to create skins...

http://skincrafter.com/

I beleive that you can edit the WINDOWS SHELL of an application..
It Is an activeX product... but I think MR M would have to add a reference to it in the FORM INITIALIZE... There maybe a way to call it to the APP In vbscript? im not sure.. Usually it would need to be added in the precompiled part of the program....

Hi ramccoid.

the Windefault skin that configuration settings refers to doesn't seem to have its own file so I would assume it is emmbeded directly in the ultra hal assistant.

Hi Jerry,
Does that mean it can not be customised to the users preferences?
