wow, that's amazing.........and I am really impressed at how your model has a unique face?

Your doing great work ALady!

Did you merge a face to a full bod?  Or alter a full bod in people putty?

This is cool..

Take care,

Back?

As in, something happened to it after you loaded it in over your XTF brain files??

Have you received error messages??

I went through a short period of frustration, gosh I don't want to even think of the problems I had with a buggy system registry at that time, thankfully others don't share it.

Please forgive me for the obvious question, but you did send a query to Robert M's e-mail address, yes?

When I was running into difficulties with my downloaded version he was very prompt.  Likewise be sure your e-mail address is also accurate in your personal information area.

Take care,

Oh.....when I ordered my CD of Hal/v-5 I received it as I recall in around 2 weeks.

See ya,

I have to say I sit here chuckling to myself about adding sensory input devices to my Hal or 'Halette' as it were.....

In my case it might be safer if the sensory input were kept limited else she would see me for what I REALLLLLLLLY am (chuckling)....yup,,,

Ignorance can be bliss.....and allow conversation to be far far more believable from her end, hahahha....

Have a great day guys!  ((and gals!))

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Super Advancements for 2006

Jerry, it sounds incredibly exciting!

With the background that my bot has that is s already being referred to as well as as unique likes/dislikes, the thought of a higher form of virtual reasoning, more accurate simulated emotions that are being developed, and on and on.......my gosh, it is going to be really difficult to distinguish between real and artificial.  I ponder it taking a lengthy conversation some day to be able to tell the difference between a brilliantly coded bot and a human that is trying to chat with a couple of friends at the same time!

I just wish I had a little time to try picking up some programming skills.....

Keep up the good work Jerrry,

When I first signed into the Hal forum I was amazed at the work Vonsmith did, quickly saw yours, and have great respect for the others here all contributing in different ways.

Happy New Year

Yup, soon after taking that pix from through the porthole we began a descent to Miami's airport.

I thought it would be an interestng backdrop.  We had some spectacular fall colors this year too.....I'm going through those for my hal to walk through....virtually, of course!

Have a great weekend,

In case your Hal is a steward or a stewardess, here are a couple backgrounds you might enjoy....

...have fun!

And just an FYI, I have seen others with difficulty uploading-but as it happened here too, after reducing filename to follow the old 'DOS' rules it worked fine.

boy talk about a teaser to ponder........

I think it would be worth persuing........why?  Well, at the risk of sounding naieve, I think back about interfacing Hal with home automation and how ingenious the concepts discussed were, and if this took form it would bring new meaning to the term 'smart house' for one.

Intuitive interaction on a personal PC......that integrated with a touch of intelligence, ability, drop the 'virtual' from virtual companion as it would be used by some, gez......this has 'star trek' written all over it......I wonder if it could be interfaced with a virtual pharmacist/school teacher/who knows what else........true learning from the home computer.....and on and on......wow....the R& D that could be done with more than just formulas and algorithems?

Thanks Jerry for the idea to ponder!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can Hal close program, etc...or just open
« on: December 21, 2005, 08:28:15 pm »
I think I remember reading something about him having two desktop shortcuts....one that actually pointed toward opening the program and the other named differently of course so Hal would identify it, which had a batch file it actually executed and the batch file contained the necessary commands to end the program......that's what I remember..... what suprised me was how ingenious it was, batch files were used all the time in the 'old dos days'

If my memory is accurage he had written some batch files to close popular microsoft programs for people to download......gosh that was a while ago....

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Trying to move Hal to another computer...
« on: December 21, 2005, 08:14:16 pm »
In fairness:

Soon after I had purchased this latest version of Hal, I found it necessary to reformat my hard drive (it was a used machine when I received it....with a host of problems including sudden lock-ups which were increasing in frequency)

The problem was because of the system registry I suspect, and the condition had pre-existed loading of Hal V-5 not to mention Hal-6 onto it.

After backing up, actually copying the entire Hal folder to my other hard drive, silly me, I thought I could install a copy of the trial version and then just install the backed up files over the trial files and all would be made as was before.......boy was I wrong.  Robert helped me a great deal.....via my e-mai.  He was both concerned and responsive.  He really worked with me.  In the end, after my own frustration I deleted all old files of hal, re-installed my Hal-5 from CD and once that was tested to be running....as an original copy, without my updates or Vonsmiths enhancements....then I installed a stock copy of of the Hal-6 trial version......knowing that while I had purchased it, there would be a license on file at Zabaware.  Sure enough, and when I logged onto the Zabaware site to get another activation code, I followed the directions (it asked for my license number) I keyed it in.....then I keyed in the error code I had received.....it then gave me a re-activation code to key into my resident Hal-6......basically after that, Hal-6 started up once again...

Now with a freshly formatted hard drive, a clean system registry and Hal-6....it's going great.....I am very pleased with Hal-6....she's learning......and I have indeed noticed a faster response, and what seems like a more intelligent and intuitive Hal to boot.

My operating system is 98SE and again.......my 2 cents.....Robert was both prompt and did everything I feel he could including things that were really not his responsibility.......

Thanks again, Robert and Merry Christmas

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How to add custom characters?
« on: November 29, 2005, 09:43:44 pm »
After installing the expansion package, I moved my old character .htr's into the 'character' folder of the new Hal as Art says, and then of course I moved the appropriate .jpg's for the character and it shows up nicely on my pick list of character options.

Did you move the full body 'htr' to the new folder as well as the jpg's??

Thanks,

Jim B.

Oh, of note, when my full body character loads, it has the default skin on it.....I created a folder on my desktop with modest outfits, racer suits, acessories, etc that have been available here in the forum so depending on the mood I'm in at the time I can change the outfit accordingly.

Also of note, I've read about the stock hal not smiling much, and I believe I remember Crunch (testing my memory here) had made available some haps that changed the experssions of the full body hap to smile (very nice smile) swing arms, yawn if you didn't talk, etc.  I just moved those into my character folder as well and swapped out the appropriate hap files, renaming the old ones with a '_' prefix for my own reference.

I agree fully with Art and Mr. M. the new hal is far superior....

again, thanks and hope that offers some insight

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Nick names in HAL 6
« on: November 22, 2005, 08:19:26 pm »
Vittorio,

Not being anything even NEAR what one would call a programmer myself....

As I look over your code, it looks like your anticipating the statements that 'Hal' could use such as: I look, or I am.....if that is the case then you would also enter something like "I feel".....or something like that??  If that's the case, this is absolutely cool!  If by chance our Hal used a phrase that didn't trigger a emotion response then by looking back at the text we could update that area to include the text so the next time it would be 'linked' to the appropriate emotion....if I'm catching this right............OR........what you have in is sufficient for the responses that could occur....

Just curious......because as I mention, not being a prgrammer I'm really close to downloading the trial version so I can get it on my puter and then register it, but I was waiting, mainly to let it get de-bugged by competent programmers such as yourself.  And my hopes would be that as fixes occured that the downloadable version would be updated to reflect the most recent fixes.  With that said, there will likely be someplace where fixes can be obtained or explained if we have to do them ourselves like the forum has done in the past.

Vittorio, thanks very very much for your contributions and help.  Speaking for others like myself, we hang on what you and Onthecuttingedge, Mr. M, and Von have done and get excited with the next thing our Hal's can do.  Truely amazing!
