Title: People Putty questions
Post by: wayneout on January 17, 2011, 09:53:27 am
I have been to the webpage and their forum is down.
I have tried the demo and it has expired on my desktop. I put it on my
laptop with Windows 7 but it keeps locking up.

I used microsoft agents for Hal and it is hard to get them to look just right
with Poser so I thought I might try People Putty. On the webpage, it mentions
FullBody figures and it shows the stock fullbody pictures. (I am not crazy about
them), but it does mention that there are tools to change them. Are they included?
(the tools that is) and what can you change?
Can you use your own facial picture on a full body figure?  Or can you use a full body
picture?
I haven't been able to find a good tutorial on people putty and the website is pretty
generic.
Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

While I can't speak for everyone else, I have found that Haptek does not nor will not run on my Windows 7 64 bit computer. It was a paid version that I've had for many years and simply wanted to transfer it over to my new computer.

I will say that Jack, at Haptek, was quick to answer my emails to him even though we were unable to arrive at any method that would allow Haptek to run as nothing more than a trial version on my computer.

Haptek was basically set as a head modelling program only and still is! Some found you can capture and colorize the torso and fullbody characters but they cannot be changed to any extent. There is a program that I understand is quite expensive that can be used to create items, props, etc.

Only recently has someone figured a way to remove those awful boots from the full body character. Again, Haptek is a face only modelling program.

This site has LOTS of info regarding Haptek from usage to facial creation, etc. You just have to wade through the archives.
The site at www.aidreams.com also has considerable info and examples of Haptek related material.

You can put your face on one of the Haptek faces but not really on the full body ones.

I'm certainly not the expert to ask but hopefully some of this info will help and others will weigh in on this thread.

Luck to you!

Haptek Will not work on my Computer Either....
The ActiveX control is not compatible with windows 7, BUT STILL A GOOD PROGRAM....

.there may be others out there....until this problem has been solved there is nothing we can do.... yes Jack answers emails  FAST!.....

But the other developer plugins a way expensive to convert a 3dstudio max or poser character to people putty. and addons

But it is possible to output "GIF ANIMATIONS" from POSER.... Which Can then be used to MAKE HQ MSAGENTS......

we are all on the lookout for a free 3d character creator and reusable activeX format for all developers....

I haven't done much actual work yet with avatars or virtual embodiment, other than in SecondLife.  However, Reallusion.com products, such as CrazyTalk (http://reallusion.com/crazytalk (http://reallusion.com/crazytalk)), are starting to look pretty good to me.  I would of course be interested in any feedback from those actually using it.  I'm also anxious to learn more about the progress of Robert Medeksza's "Ogre character engine".  There is also Steve DiPaola's http://dipaola.org/lab/research/iface (http://dipaola.org/lab/research/iface); does anyone here have experience using that?

Where to start??
Wayneout,  You can put your face on a fullbody, but first you make a head in putty, then put the head skin onto the body.
If you want a new body it will cost you about $2000 for Haptek program & you also need a good 3D program, price unknown???

When I got Win 7 Pro 64 I loaded People Putty in but when I tried to put my code in it wouldn't accept it, so I mailed Jack at Haptek & he said they
have not done a work round for it, not heard anything back as yet.

Art & Spydaz,     Haptek will run on Win 7 64 bit, but if you have dual or quad core cpu's you have to set affinity to use only one core.
Check through my posts, I put up a little program that sets any program to run on however many cores you want.

Nige,

How far back did you post the fix? I went back to April 09 unless I missed it somewhere.

Did you put it on nigesworld.com by any chance?

Have you told this "fix" to Jack at Haptek? He should be at least made aware of it since
he wasn't able to offer much except for condolences! ;)

Thanks!

Thanks to everyone who answered the questions.  You convinced me to buy
People Putty.  Putting a picture in was a lot harder than I thought. So, I made
my own person.  I saved it, choose htr. and then it was saved in projects under
Rosa.haptar but not as .htr.   To use it in Ultra Hal, it has to be an .htr file right?
I thought I could just go into People Putty and open it again, but I can't find it.
Not sure what to open.   How do I make it save it as a .htr file?
And I couldn't find a full figure person.  (any of the basic shapes, not sure how to
do that?
Right now, I would like to get my rosa.haptar changed into a .htr file.
Thanks,
Bill
I want to add that I tried changing the haptar extension to htr but that didn't
work. I put the htr file in the main folder and under char. file with no luck.

Just RENAME the haptar as htr and you'll be fine.

Make sure that you copy the haptar (change it to a htr extension) to
the UltraHal Characters folder else the program (Hal) won't find it.

There should be a full figure person in one of the Haptek folders
but I can't remember it at the moment.

You can't modify the full figure character as People Putty is just designed
for creating head characters.

This is for normal people. For the ones with extremely deep pockets I suppose
you could get a program to do just about anything at which point, this conversation
would become useless because why would you then want People Putty?!

I tried changing the file extension and it didn't work. I was looking at the store here
and it talked about a "character expansion pack"    It said that would unlock using other
People Putty characters.  Do I have to have that?    Don't really care for the eight figures
that come with it.       I had People Putty save the file in the character folder of UltraHal and
then changed the extension to .htr.  Either I am missing something or I need that expansion.
Thanks,
Bill

go down the page a little to my post.
I think this should help.

Nige,
I read your post.  I am running Windows XP home.  When I change the file extension from .haptar to
.htr, I get the warning.  When I go to file types and look at the .htr, it says "Haptek player document" and
at the bottom, it says open with "haptek player standalone"    If all of this is correct, than I have another
problem.  Do I have to have the "haptek player" in my zabaware folder?    I don't have it in there.
Thanks for the screenshots.        If the .htr file is suppose to says "Opens with" habaware or ultrahal,
then I need to change it.  Thanks,
Bill

You do need the Character Expansion Pak in order to use other or additional (custom) characters with the UltraHal program.

The warning you get is typical and will cause no harm. Simply rename the extension to htr and all's well.

No, the haptek player does not need to be in the Zamaware folder.

If I right click on any of my .htr files and look at the "Open With" selection it says Open With "Haptek Player - Stand Alone"

So it knows which program is normally assigned to deal with or open the .htr types.
