Both of thoses languages were in vogue during the 60's and 70's but slowly went out of useage for one reason or another. It has become extremely rare to hear about a program written in either one of those languages any more except for maybe a few novelities.
What still amazes me is how much stuff can be written in different dialogs of Basic. I once even had a "C" compiler that was written in Basic. It seems that "C" or "C++" is the most popular and powerful language in style today even thought it might not be the easiest to learn. Part of Hal is compiled and I think it was written in "C" to make it run faster. I can only imagine that if the entire program was written in C how fast it might run.
