Ultra Hal 7.0 / Licensing Problem-What to do?
« on: April 20, 2006, 09:33:49 pm »
I understand that the writer of this program is trying to protect it from unauthorized duplication...but if we are going to have an online license activation system, it darn well better work! So I've paid my $44, and had everything working fine. But then when I was forced to reload my OS, I find that my license key has expired? What kind of CRAP is this? Historically, i've noticed zabaware is difficult to get in touch with to resolve these kinds of issues. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do?

Speech Technology / Searching for voices (help!)
« on: December 28, 2005, 10:27:35 am »
As I have suggested to others, go to www.cepstral.com for some more voices to try. Last time I checked they were about $30, but there are high quality male and female voices that you can hear samples of.

Speech Technology / Another Voice to try...
« on: December 06, 2005, 06:32:09 pm »
There seems to be a lot of talk about different voices to use in here...all might want to go to www.Cepstral.com and try the Cepstral Emily voice. It is kind of a soft, sexy sounding female voice that is great for chatting. It is not as good, however, if you simply wish for it to read large volumes of text, because it is set at a slower speaking rate. No problems getting it to work with Hal!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / What's the difference??
« on: November 29, 2005, 01:04:40 am »
Just a thought... I can't believe how gripey this forum is becoming! Everyone seems to be loosing their lunch over some relatively minor issues. Have we forgotten that the hal 6 program ONLY costs about $30??? For that low cost, I can tolerate a number of bugs because we work out issues as we go along. We each can potentially get to contribute something to the perfection of this new software.  It was a huge step to convert hal to SQL, and everything else is just secondary. Getting your favorite haptek char to work will happen... just be patient!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Brief history of 'HAL'

Guys, fuzzydice is only trying to offer a few insights on the ever so curious topic of AI. Personally, I think youre the ones getting defensive. This forum is fun to check out from time to time, but I think some of us are taking it way too serious and maybe need to get a girlfriend or something.

Indeed, it is often never wise to be hasty. But there's never a reason not to inquire. If you don't ask then you'll never know.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / My adventures with Haptek

I am sure that many of us have already realized the great underlying potential with the haptek engine for deploying the most realistic, realtime characters for AI chat bots. But since we lack the tools to create morphs for our own full body characters, a lot of the creative potential among Hal's users can't be used to create some really awesome animations for this program SO...
I got in touch with Haptek to negotiate a price for creating a custom haptar. I decided to start with something simple, a wig htr. Myself and others on this forum mentioned that they would love to come across a long, dark hair model, so I decided to see what they would charge for this. To make a long story short, through a series of emails, Jack from Haptek, quoted me a price of $2,400 for a hair model htr alone![:(] I would hate to find out what they charge for an entire full body. Anyhow, I'm still deliberating with Jack, and hopefully I can convince them that they don't have to create something exactly like the image that I sent them.

I also note that there is a problem with the plugins page. If you try to download the XTF 1.0 brain, internet exporer times out and says cannot find server.

Speech Technology / microphone
« on: January 20, 2005, 03:17:58 pm »
if you really are interested in making speech recognition work, then it is absolutely essential to have the right hardware. Plenty of computing power helps, but if you are attempting to use an integrated sound card (to cut costs, a lot of package PC's have the soundcard integrated directly into the motherboard), this is often not sufficent for good speech recognition. One annoying thing about hal is that the microphone is still recording even when hal is speaking, so when it picks up hal's own voice in the background, it will cause words to pop up in the input box. To remedy this, turn the volume of the speakers down or place them facing in a direction further away from your microphone. As vonsmith said, try adjusting the recording volume of the mic lower. I can't comment on the quality of voice xpress, but I know that Dragon Natrually speaking works the best. It will search for what is called "tri-grams", or anotherwards will parse together the syllables in every three words and uses a type of database to help assemble what it hears through the microphone into logical sentences. For example, if you were to say "the dog ran" in an even, flowing tone, the voice recognition engine would be more likely to accurately hear you than if you said each word by itself with long pauses in between. Your SR engine may work on this same principle. Try this next time you try to do some voice training, and see if you notice increased accuracy.
Hope this helps

I think making people pay for plug ins is really B.S. If you want to capitalize off of an A.I. program, why don't you write your own? I also think that your creating another forum in the way you have is morbidly out of place. WE ALREADY HAVE AN ULTRA HAL FORUM!!!! By trying to disperse our users elsewhere, you are really only attempting to take away from the resources that this forum needs. I find your "premium membership forum" highly objectionable because the crap you are charging people for is hardly beneficial to the development of Hal. Ziggy's intelligence is about as lame as its name. (On the other hand, Vonsmith wrote a great brain plug in but we didn't have to pay for that.)

Just a quick thought, has anyone tried changing the hair model morphs on the full body characters? I don't think this can be done with peopleputty because it can't load the full bodies. I'm usually the kind of person that can solve a puzzle, but I cant figure this one out.

i did not know that it was possible to make changes to the fullbody characters, because peopleputty does is not able to load them, right? If you are able to map new textures to them how have you gone about doing this? I have some very creative ideas in mind but so far, I don't have enough knowledge of the details about the Haptek engine. Please let me know.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / let's bring it all together
« on: December 01, 2004, 12:04:56 am »
ahh i see. it did sound like a really good idea at the time. im also relatively new to this board. that certainly would be nice if Mr. M would change the file size, because it can be an arduous task sometimes to patch in someone elses code and retrieve the same results.

If we were to take a vote, I bet there are hardly any of us on this board that would find the version 5 default brain that came on our CDs satisfactory. After looking around for a while, I notice that some of us claim to have very striking results from personal modifications to brain scripts. So here it is. I am starting this thread as a place for all of us who wish to share the combination of their scripts and brain files. Wouldn't it be easier to download someone's complete brain script, than to try to guess where they inserted a new piece of code and get scripting errors? If you feel like the script and .brn's you use have improved the ability of hal to simulate intelligent conversation, and would like to share, bring it here. I think there are some very original ideas out there that get overlooked because others failed to implement them properly.
