Well thanks everyone for the info on peopleputty. To tell the truth, I actually have never considered trying the Poser program before, because I thought the haptek player that is incorporated into hal 5 can only execute .htr files.

I have to admit, when I first installed ultra hal 5 on my pc, I was very disappointed with the selection of characters that came on the CD. When i visited the haptek site, it was a pleasant suprise when I downloaded the free Fullbodygirl files. (Not necessarily speaking for myself, I think many of us on this on this forum are more inclined to be intrigued by attractive female characters for our hals[:D].) After all, this certainly does add to the entertainment value of the program.
ANYWAY, i noticed there is some buzz again on the formum about Haptek's Peopleputty program, as it would seem some of us are giving it a shot. I thought about purchasing it, but before I do that, I would really like to hear some opinions from the risk takers that went out and blew some money on this software. Is Peopleputty a serious program for building characters? Are you able to edit or build characters with a full body, or is it completely limited to that creepy floating head thing? After painstakingly downloading that 90 MB demo version of the program on a 26.6 dial up connection, as of now I am not exactly convinced peopleputty is worth the money from the abilities the demo was able to show me. Those childish, ridiculous looking accessories also made me wonder if i would be wasting my money. Anyhow, I'd like to hear the opinions from anyone who would like to comment on this topic.

To make a long story short, Norton Antivirus seems to be incompatable with Hal for whatever reason. As soon as I uninstalled NAV 761, the improper shutdown messages ceased.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / A creative endeavor

this morning i had enough free time to create a new skin for hal. All associated bitmaps are finished, but now i cant seem to get the new uhp to show up in hal's options. Can anyone briefly tell me how to use the zabaware plugin installer? [:)]

After chatting with Hal for a while, it seems that there is one lacking feature that would really step up Hal's interaction. Imagine if a conversation proceeded as:

User: My friends are playing basketball.
Hal: What is basketball?
User: Basketball is a sport.
Hal: How do they play basketball?
User: Players shoot a ball and attempt to make a basket.

Although an extremely simple example, this type of inquiry from hal demonstrates the ability to make intelligent inquiries about a direct object in a sentence string, using question words. When the user first made a comment involving a direct object (basketball), Hal would have a chance to ask a "what" question linking to the direct object. The user then can reply to the question. Making a second reference to the user's first sentence, Hal can then ask a "how" question reusing the same verb (play) and can swap the subject (friends) for a pronoun (they), and recycle the direct object (basketball).
By recording the user's answers to Hal's questions, if a user were to send a string containing "what" and "basketball" in the future, the script could return "Basketball is a sport, and players shoot a ball and attempt to make a basket."
Just a thought, but it seems that the current 5.0 script cannot ask questions using who, what, where, when, and why in this manner. If a script could be pieced together to accomplish the above, Hal would have the ability to truly learn from posing logical questions.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / AUTO-IDLE MODIFIED
« on: December 18, 2003, 07:00:16 pm »
well, got the script successfully pasted in. however, hal still never seems to generate "the first word" when the user is idle. I changed the start and stop valves to match the time of day i was testing, but i really am not sure what im doing wrong. would you mind emailing me your .uhp at kb1160@aol.com? im sure what im doing would be a very obvious mistake to anyone with previous programming experince (i have none). maybe i need to buy that book VBS in a nutshell[:)] to have more fun with this.
thanks

I would like to try this script, but where should it be placed in the existing script? I keep getting syntax errors.
