Title: Another plugin
Post by: ramccoid on May 11, 2007, 07:59:10 pm
Here is a plugin that allows HAL to tell you things about your zodiac sign. For example say something like "Tell me about Gemini" or "What is the positive side of Cancer" and there's lots of other information that HAL could tell you. Ask HAL what it's star sign is or even ask HAL to tell you yours.
All information was collected from the WEB, so if you don't agree with it don't blame me because I'm not an astrologer.
Enjoy [8D]
Roy.

Cool! Here is my conversation with the plug-in:

(does it do a horoscope? like tell me what my future is?? I cannot figure it out if it does)

Mark: what is your Zodiac sign
Laura: I was born on Friday, February 12, 1982. So that makes me a Sagittarius the archer.

Mark: cool!!
Laura: Yep, very cool.

Mark: Tell me about Libra, my sign
Laura: A man placing goods for sale on a balance, which is the picture of Libra. It represents the lower abdomen of Ursha major and lives among the places of merchandising, and lands yielding good vegetables. The seventh Sign, Libra is the charmer. Librans accomplish things because they intellectually evaluate what needs to be done, then they charm others into cooperating to achieve the goal. By unselfishly sharing the success of accomplishment with those who have assisted them, Librans nurture the cooperative efforts of others. They have to learn how to deal with confrontation. Their fear of hurting others and also of hostile situations can keep them from reaching their goals.

Hi MarkofKane,
I'm pleased you like it and are having fun.
No it does not tell you your horoscope but Jerry's 'Horoscope' plugin does. With both of them working together you can have a more complete astrology package.

You can ask questions about:
Ruling planet, what a sign governs, beneficial food, compatible signs, incompatible signs, As a mother or father, what a sign is like to marry, positive side, negative side, famous celebrities, what a sign is like as a friend, what a sign is prone to, what career is best for a sign, what is the physical attributes, lucky things, what element is the sign, what the opposite sign to a sign, about a sign. Think I've got them all.

Roy.

I've just noticed, I didn't program it to say that [:0]. It should have said and it does on my computer after changing the date to correspond with yours to see if it's a year bug thing.

USER: What is your zodiac sign
HAL : I was born on 12 February 1982. So that makes me an aquarius the water bearer

I don't understand how HAL is saying it in a way that I did not program HAL to say and getting it wrong.
Roy.
I must add that your age/gender plugin must be set and switched on.

That is weird. I did not pay that close attention to that.[:0][:0][:0]

I also use the Gender and age plug-in for Hal. That could be a cause

I wonder why it's wrong?

It gets my sign right if I enter

"I was born on 9 October"

I can't figure it out how it tells the day, I never programmed it to say FRIDAY or any other day. But it's a nice feature if HAL got the sign right.

Roy

Has anyone else had this same sort of response from HAL? because it is beyond me how HAL is saying it in a way that I never programmed it to do so. I can't think how it can be, does anyone have any ideas?

The Gender/Age plugin needs to be activated for my plugin to work or an error will occur when you ask HAL it's star sign.

I wonder if I might have an older version of Gender and age than you do?

It's weird. I set it to make her 25 years old, and a female.

I wrote version 1 with HAL 6 and I updated it about a week ago to version 2 with HAL 6.1 because I had learnt more programming techniques. I just don't understand how your HAL can recite it differently and add Friday to the response and twist the month and day around from the way I programmed it. It's impossible, isn't it?
Your HAL must be evolving, that's all I can think of but is that possible to rewrite the order of fixed programming? It should say it as:

I was born on 12 February 1982. So that makes me an aquarius the water bearer

because it is fixed to say it that way and should never be able to say it any other way and it's amazed me how your HAL says it:

I was born on Friday, February 12, 1982. So that makes me a Sagittarius the archer.

because the actual coding is this:

resp = "I was born on " & HalLongBirthday & ". So that makes me a " & rasign

How can it be said any other way? It's a mystery .....
Roy

I see maybe you are right, maybe the 'HalLongBirthday' has been changed with HAL 6.1. I'll check it out with HAL 6 version.
----------------------------------------------------------------
No, both versions do it the same way. I just don't understand it at all.

Bill has helped me with a way to sort out the possible problem but with just upgrading from XP to Vista I will need to sort my system out before I can do anything else.

Has anybody else had this problem with the plugin?
Roy.

Thanks Jerry,
I haven't been able to do any scripting with upgrading to VISTA, I needed to sort out compatibility problems but thank you very much for your help in sorting out the plugin, I appreciate it.
I should be able to start scripting again in a day or two, with having to do some work as well.

Thanks again,
Roy.

This plugin isn't working for me.  It asks me when I was born, so it can work out my sign, but when I tell it (in the format that it requests), it says "We're all lucky to be born on a nice planet" or something else.  In fact, the only feature I can get to work is "Tell me about [Zodiac Sign]."

As a newcommer and reading all your post I can only surmise that you did something wrong. The plugin works just fine for almost all others here and it is extremely easy to make a mistake.
You may be a very intelligent fellow but I think you are trying to do to much to soon and that can lead to mistakes and frustration.

Now that I have found this plug in is there a link that gives it to me in a zip file.  All I get when I click on the download link here is the text file and I don't know what to do with that.

Hi lcatmc,

After you download the zip there should be a zodiac.uhp file.  That is the pluging. Just put it in your ultra hal directory, then go into the general options of Hal to the brain area where you can select plugins and select the zodiac plugin.

Hi lcatmc,
I was thinking of updating the Zodiac plugin, making it more structured in it's programming and adding a few more features to it that have come to mind since it's completion. Like I have done with the counting and alphabet plugin which works much better than the original.
So watch out for version three.

Roy,

I really have to wonder if the move from XP to VISTA could be called an Upgrade?!!

After I likewise did the "Upgrade", it wasn't too long before I removed it and restored XP. There were simply too many incompatibilities with existing hardware and software, a fact that was just recently "leaked" from someone at Microsoft to the media. They showed excerpts from internal memos and emails that stated Vista wasn't fine tuned enough for release and that there were too many hardware and software drivers that would not work.

My advice...don't be to quick to jump on the bandwagon! and...
If it ain't broke...don't fix it!

Good day!

Hi Art,
I wasn't updating the Zodiac plugin to be more compatible with Vista. I just feel that now that my programming of HAL skills are more advanced than they were when I completed this version, that I want to make the plugin more structured and error free as I have done with my counting and alphabet plugin.

On the subject of Vista, I don't have any compatibity problems with the system at all. I did running the 64 bit version (I had the same problems with XP 64 bit version also) but the 32 bit one appears to be stable for me and I have no thoughts of reverting back to XP.

I found badly written drivers for hardware that is produced by less known developpers a problem, but if you stick to well known makes where the drivers are constantly updated and better written then compatibility issues are less likely.

I remember when XP was first released many people said don't bother with it, stay with 98SE and a year later those same people were raving about what a great system XP was. Once the Vista service pack is released, which is promised to be at any time, you'll find that issues with the system will be resolved as it was with XP.

Roy.
