Brand new to HAL , and I am lost
« on: February 15, 2007, 02:44:03 am »
Hi, I just downloaded HAL 6 and got as far as having the frog as a face and I can type questions and get something resembling an answer..

BUT, is not the frog or HAL supposed to lipsync what it is saying?

I chose the frog because it said it would do it and I can not find anything else that infers setup for lipsync.

I have read the online h3elp files and found nothing about my problem.
I have also looked through the forum and didnt find anything about it..

Anyone have suggestions on where I went wrong?

Thanks, Anne

Hi, don't be lost... 8-)

I don't use that feature, so I can't answer your question, I just replied to assure you that someone who does use that feature will certainly be able to help you. In the mean time you might try searching the forum for "lipsync", I didn't read through them but there are many posts.

Good luck.

Welcome to our forum!!

If you mean you want the frog to sing you have to have ogg files where mp3 or wav are converted in the haptek people putty program to make the singing work. Do you have the program? if not you will have to get ogg files from those of us who have them and there are many. you can simply drag the file into your open haptek control console and the character will sing the song.~~alady

I think Anne means just move the lips when speaking.

I could be wrong.

Welcome Anne!

Yes, both Zaba (frog) and Hal (TV) do perform
lipsync (lips move) when they reply to a question.

If you are having problems in this regard, please
let us know some particulars like:

Are you using Windows 98, XP...
Do you have other programs that use speech and if so,
are they working?

Click on the M when talking with Hal to go to the Options
menu or select Options when you first start Hal.

Select the Speech menu

Check the box in the upper left that reads Use Speech Synthesis (Hal Speaks)

Click Apply, OK, then Chat with Hal.

Just say Hello of something and see if the character's lips move with their response. If not let us know and we'll do what we can to help you!!

Welcome Anne!

One more thing. When you bring up the characters, either the frog or the TV you will notice it say 2D or 3D. The 2D characters do not lip sinc so select the 3D only.
Good luck and don't be dispared. You are on a learning process.

Hi and thanks for the suggestions. YES, what I am looking to do is have lipsync with the character on the screen. Right now the frog just sits there and looks around. Yes I choose "3D" from the chart. I deliberately started with a character included with the program to get the "feel" of the program before I go on to my grand ideas.. :-)  and YES Speech Synthesis is checked and the frog will not move his mouth..... hey, maybe he is a ventriloquist :-),, anyway, any help would be appreciated as my trial does not have much time left.  Thanks, Anne

Do you get just a text response and no voice?

Do you have any other TTS SAPI applications that work?(Text-To-Speech)

Go to Start > Control Panel > Speech (double click), Select the
Text to Speech tab, select and preview one of the voices from the list. Did they talk?

Did you turn off any anti-virus programs when you installed?

YES I get speech, just no movement of the frog that could be associated with the speech.

I would recommend removing with either the uninstall or the Add/Remove in the Control Panel.

Turn off any anti-virus or other running programs then try
doing a fresh install.

Let us know of your progress.

DONE... Same thing !

Thanks for everything, but I guess it is not meant to be. My time will expire Tuesday so I will not be able to test more... Probably for the best anyway..

Anne,

I'd strongly recommend you drop Robert Medeksza an email regarding
your problem.
At top right Members
Look for Medeksza in list.

He'll get you and Hal working together!

Hello... I am investigating to see if this tool could be used as a front-end to a business database application (i.e. sales force automation). The application would have many users accessing it each with their own context. And wireless or browser devices would be the I/O method feeding Hal.

Assuming that I would be building the front end interfaces from the various devices, and reducing them to the appropriate input level for Hal, is the kind of thing I have described doable with this tool?

TIA

Phil

Thanks for the suggestion, but I can not even test with the program anymore.

Have a great day,
Anne
