Ultra Hal 7.0 / Teaching Hal from Text
« on: March 02, 2004, 04:08:04 pm »
Is there a way to make Hal read from several text files in succession of one another?  I don't know about anyone else, but I don't really have the time to sit down and feed him text file after text file.  It'd be nice if I could just set several text files (perhaps even entire folders) for reading and let it do its job.  Is this at all possible?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal and Alice
« on: March 01, 2004, 07:57:45 pm »
Hello,
I'm using an XP Pro machine, and I have Hal 5.0 installed on my machine.  I installed Alice without a hitch, and I selected the brain as was dictated by the readme.  However, when Hal is on the Alice brain, I get no response.  I will type message after message and Hal will just sit there.  Could someone please help me with this dilemma?  Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
Ryuhoshi

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Voices

If only my computer were fast enough to run them.  I'm 50 Mhz short! [:(]

Hi, I just installed the new 5.0 version, and it's great, but I'm having some problems. First, is there a way I can either make Hal check my email on command or at least increase the frequency that Hal checks my POP3 account (maybe even both?). I'm not even a novice of a programmer, so please forgive me for asking for a copy&paste handout. The next thing is, I have a friend who goes by the alias "Zero" and so I entered in his email address under the name "Zero." Whenever I say "Email Zero." though, Hal takes it as an statement, and when I say it various other ways (email zero, Email Zero, email zero., etc.) Hal just complains that I'm repeating myself. I've tried saying something else in between to get Hal out of that mode, but when I say it again, Hal just gives me the definition of email. It's getting rather frustrating. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I said "Please email Zero" first, and so it associated the command with a sentence. But in that case, or any other case for that matter, I don't know what to do about it. I tried other names in my address book and it works fine, but not for Zero. Thanks :-)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Problem with settings

I have a few problems with the voices as well, though not that they switch on me.  I have been trying to edit the pronunciation of some words that the program uses, but whenever it asks me to save the changes I've made to the file, I say yes and then Hal says that an object doesn't support the action.  Then Hal shuts down and I have to restart it.

Hmm . . . it'd be nice if Hal could chat on Jabber Instant Messenger.  It'd be a bit easier to build a gateway program for, and that way you could also use the normal Jabber gateways to chat with all of the other Instant Messengers, like AIM, MSN, ICQ, Y! and of course whatever Jabber server you happen to be on.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Tried AT&T Natural Voices with Hal v5.0 yet?
« on: October 30, 2003, 06:33:37 pm »
I have tried to run them on my computer, but sadly it is not fast enough.  The minimum speed for the AT&T voices is 500 mhz, and mine is 450.  Had I a computer fast enough, the natural voices would be the ones I would use.  The NV is the best there is on the market, I have heard none better by a long shot.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ultra hal 5.0 upgrade question.
« on: October 30, 2003, 12:53:34 pm »
I have a problem: I can't access the email that I originally purchased the program with.  I'm at a college that does not allow me to check outside email accounts, as strange as that may sound.  Is there a way I can have it sent to my other email address instead?[:I]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Deductive reasoning abilility and schedule update
« on: October 10, 2003, 01:49:29 pm »
Question: Will the final release of the software be sent to those who bought 4.5 (like me) or will we have to request it?  If it is sent to us, is it possible for me to change my shipping address?  I'm anxious to try out this deductive reasoning thing.  However, one thing you might work on, is having Hal recognize a concept instead of just a statement.  For instance, if you say, or he learns "If Jane drops her glass, it will fall," then Hal ought to be able to recognize "If you/he/she/it/Bob/Jamie drops his/her/etc. glass, it will fall."  You see what I mean?  The next step would be for Hal to recongize time, such as [You]: "I dropped my glass." [Hal]: "It has fallen."  Ok, all done.

Is there any way to get HAL to recognize verbs and their association with time?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Problem with scheduling
« on: October 10, 2003, 01:39:17 pm »
I have HAL on my computer here at school, and I told him that I have a biology class at 2 PM every friday.  He faithfully reminds me every friday, but he says exactly that "You have a biology class on every friday at 2."  This is a little annoying.  Also I have noticed that he has trouble differenciating parts of the thing to be reminded, and part of the sentence I use to tell him.  So, if you could fix that, it would be great.

I was told that those who bought the 4.5 would get a free upgrade to 5.0.

Is there a place where I can learn Vb script?  If I could learn it, then I could add on many of the improvements I have suggested and I would be more than happy to share it with anyone that wanted it.
