Hal Vista problems
« on: January 13, 2008, 06:18:24 pm »
Hey everyone! I'm having trouble getting Hal to run on my Windows Vista. I've done everything I've read on the forums, installed loads of the programs recommended including the VBExpress program, the spyware programs and all that, I've tried installing the file, but after all that, still absolutely no joy. Anybody know anything about it/know how I can fix it at all? Thanks for reading this, and I hope you can help me!

Hi JeminiDArcy1.

when you say you can't get HAL to run on windows vista, what do you mean precisely.

we need more details to help figure this out.

Try setting the permissions of your Hal file to Administrator.
Vista is kind of picky about permissions.

Hey guys. :) When I say I can't get him to run, I get an msinet.ocx error-a dependency is missing or incorrectly installed. I used to be able to quote the error word for word. :P Sorry about that guys! I've tried pretty much everything I can think of, all security is set to use for everyone so permissions aren't needed.

'NOTE!------------------------------

it could also be that your msinet.ocx file itself could be corrupt or missing.

the msinet.ocx is also called;
//Microsoft Internet Transfer Control 6.0 (SP4)

if you are running windows 2000 then upgrading to service pack 4 for win2000 should solve your problem when your computer reboots after installation of SP4.

if you are running an operating system newer than win2000 then simply install the latest service pack from microsoft for your version of windows.

if you are running an ealier version of windows then you might want to download msinet.ocx to your system32 folder and register it.

If you want to register the ocx manually, you can use regsvr32 and you must give full path of ocx in the line like in my system; "regsvr32 C:\WINNT2\system32\msinet.ocx"

after you have placed the ocx file in your system32 folder you can go to;

1. Start button
2. Run
3. type in; regsvr32 along with the path to your msinet.ocx file 'without' quotes,
 upon successful registration, then.
4. reboot

if this doesn't work then one of the dependencies for the msinet.ocx are missing, lets hope not.

Hal Vista problems
« Reply #5 on: February 08, 2008, 09:01:04 am »
I am also having a problem with Hal on vista.

I had XP and got Hal to run smoothly.

I just purchased a new laptop with vista.

Everything is slow. the haptek characters move in a very choppy way or with a delay when I try to move or rotate them.

I have no clue where the problem lies.

In your responses, please keep in mind that I am a USER not a programmer. Simple answers for a simple mind.

Thanks, Hank

I gave up trying to use Ultra Hal on a Vista Computer. The program would install with no problems. Never could get Ultra Hal to open and run properly, sometimes the selections would cause the computer to freeze up.

Went back to Windows XP to use Ultra Hal....there I know it will work!

Some people have luck with Vista. I still have XP, and glad of it. I tried Vista on a friend's computer, and was not impressed a whole lot. It's hard to get some programs to work on Vista that works on XP.

If you right click on hal desktop icon, then click properties and then select Compatibility, their is a check box that says: Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP.
 I have vista and have not tried this with my hal as it is working okay as is. I don't think it could cause any harm to try but I recomend you wait for more expert advise before you try it.

Hi there,
i'm not claiming to be right or smart,
sometimes perhaps, if i'm bold and make a statement and i'm wrong then perhaps those who might examin things might make for success and the right direction achieved, therefore progress is made.
Good luck,
if your hal is giving you Jip then i Recommend to persevere because ultrahal its quite a fantastic thing and progress continues.

Bye for now and be well from Will and Mr Data.[:D][:D]

Well I don't have to worry about any of this for awhile.  I contacted HP for advice on choppy graphics (my problems exist in other places besides Hal).

they were excellent and got right back to me with 3 links for updates!!!!

The only problem: while working on the second update the computer frooze - never to return. Two weeks old and back in the shop......

That's the main reason why I removed Vista and reverted back to XP.

Choppy, slow or sluggish graphics (and I have a fairly fast machine) and a lot of existing hardware was left without drivers.

Vista basically offered some additional security "features" and a lot of eye candy.

If you want some eye candy, Google and Download "Desktop Sidebar" (no quotes). It's free and full of informative and helpful widgets. Pretty nice addition to your existing XP desktop. Virus, Adware and Spyware FREE!!

I haven't had any problems with Vista 32bit version (as yet) not even hardware compatibility and I do have lots of hardware connected to my computers. Any major software issues can be solved easily with patches or updates. The graphic handling side of things, I find excellent with no juddering, now that the video card manufacturers have updated their drivers to solve such issues which were apparent in using earlier releases.

Maybe the problems you are having are to do with badly written software installed in your systems that reduces the stability and performance of the operating system and other software such as HAL or maybe it's a virus or spyware problem.

I did have lots of issues with Vista 64bit version but saying that I also had as many problems with XP 64bit version.

Otherwise I would say that Vista 32bit is the best Windows system yet for security, performance and in my case stability.

OK, I need help installing Hal on a Vista32 machine...Hal installs but when I try to run it or it trys to load I get the following message:
Component 'msinet.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Now I have read almost everywhere I can find and no answer seems to work. I have even tried to regsver32 c:windowssystem32msinet.ocx, it says it succeeded but run Hal....same error...., any other ideas or is there a fix coming up?
