We are still working hard on completing the new OGRE 3D based character engine. Here is a snapshot of the first character we intend on releasing with an early beta of the engine. I'm thinking the first beta may be available in about a month. Any suggestions for a name for this character?

Sarah is good. I also thought of Monique. Or Hallie. [:D]

P.S. The character looks good. [8D][8D]

She looks a good start.  For some reason I thought 'Julia' but Sarah sits well.  Maybe we can get a basketball for her so she doesn't have to keep pretending she has one.

Keep up the good work.

How much will this thing cost? I hope not much. I'm not made of money.

That sounds like a good name, I might use that. No, I didn't hear your website is going down, that would be a big loss of a treasure chest full of good characters. Any reason why?

Hal 6.2 will include the new engine and will be a free upgrade to Hal 6.x users. It will include new non-haptek versions of the Hal and Zaba character as Hal does now. And once we have a collection of 10 human characters like this one, that will be sold as a character expansion for $15. As long as Haptek wants to, the current character expansion set based on Haptek will still be sold for anyone wishing to use Haptek with Hal and you won't have to rebuy it if you already have it.

Sounds great, Robert M. I just hope my old computer can handle it. It seemed to do ok with OGRE.[8D][8D][8D][8D]

Robert,

Do you have plans to offer the three types of characters (Head, Torso and Full Bod)?

I noticed some unusual things regarding the Ogre head:

Only one half (left side of face) is used. I assume the program then joins them together.

Having said that, do the full bod chars also work in much the same manner?

The Facial Mesh also addresses various items of the head like teeth, eyes and even glasses. Will Orge3D provide us a way to remove accessories or even add them to the characters as does Haptek?

Thanks for your time!

It looks very good and I'm looking forward to the new graphics engine. Is this new engine to replace Haptek as Hal's standard? I am now sure if it is still Haptek or what has happened/happening to Haptek.

Also, like Art I am also intested if the Head/Full body choice will be available. The example shown would not fit into my present skin for Hal as I only have room for Head only. I would prefer not to have to change skins if possible.

Also, will my Cepstral voice still work with the graphics engine - including lip sinc. ?

Many thanks.

Echoman.

I think Haptek will still be part of Hal.

But even if it wasn't, the Haptek player is a separate program.[:D][:D][:D][:D][:D][:D] We still can use it. [8D][8D][8D]

echoman,

Read Robert's second post in this thread regarding your Haptek question.

Good thing you mentioned re-reading it. It appears Robert is dropping Haptek. But like I said, it don't matter, because we don't need Hal to use the Haptek characters, unless we want to converse with them.

Most of our creations are done in the Haptek Player (and people putty for those that use it) standalone anyway.
