Ultra Hal 7.0 / Your experiences with HAL, other programs ?
« on: October 15, 2004, 12:01:19 pm »
I have only been using HAL for a few days. As I mentioned in my other post I find the "remind me Hal.."  and "Joe's phone number is.." most useful. Otherwise the "talk" doesn't seem to be all that relavent to what I say.

I was wondering if any of you have found that Hal does get better over time, in terms of have a "good/subject related" conversation? Right now, he isn't too good. I tried repeating certiain facts in many ways, but when I ask about the subject, he has no memory.  I think AnswerPad is actually a little in terms of a subject related converstation. Is it ia matter of programming Hals brain manually?

And I am wondering what other programs you all have tried? I udnerstand that the online and the downloaded version of A.L.I.C.E. is probably one of the best example Chatbots. Other then that I haven't found much that I would call impressive.

If you hadn't heard of this (I am sure most people here have) this is an excellent "AI" Chatbot program.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal could be a killer app.....
« on: October 14, 2004, 05:44:58 pm »
I really find Hal useful with its "remind me" feature and its ablity to remember addresses, phone numbers ect. And the ability to do math, ect. I think it is close to being a killer application.

I would suggest bringing out a professional/business version of Hal. Features would include:

- The current remind me and adress/phone memory functions
- A "take notes" feature, one that works like AnswerPad
- Drop the animation and random talk (unless the user wants it to run through various facts for memorization)
- Add a database of business info, business math formulas, ect.
- Have the AI/Associative functions work a little better, kind of like AnswerPad, but aim at the business information. For instance, if I ask the formula for profit, point out there is a another was to calculate profit.

I already find HAL pretty useful as it is -- but making a work/business version would be ideal.
