Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Some More Control For Hal
« on: January 11, 2005, 11:40:39 pm »
Hello All,
I wrote some automated scripts to have Hal do things like minimize or close his own window in addition to other stuff like shuting down his own program or opening and closing the Hal Pad Conversation Log. I also have Hal do things like controlling other programs on my computer. I can tell him to advance to the next mp3 track on my Windows Media Player and then close the Media Player when I'm done listening to the music.

I'm doing this kind of stuff with automation scripting software that seems to run pretty good with my Hal. I'm using a program called AutoIt to write scripts for the tasks I want my Hal to be able to do for me.

I attached four small files to this post for download so that whoever wants to can try the stuff out. After you download and unzip the HalControls folder then you just need to create a new shortcut to each of the files and then place the shortcuts in the usual
"Start/All Programs Menu" or on your Desktop. And then just tell hal to run them.

Richie: run minimize interface
Margene: I will now run "Minimize Interface".
(Hal will minimize his own window to the system task bar)

Richie: run close interface
Margene: I will now run "Close Interface".
(Hal will close his own window but continue to run in the system tray)

Richie: run disappear reappear
Margene: I will now run "Disappear Reappear".
(Hal's window totally disappears from the screen for a few seconds and then reappears)

The RestoreInterface.exe file can be used to reopen a minimized Hal window back to the desktop if you are using speech recognition software like Dragon Naturally Speaking which has the ability to open and launch programs.

Here is the zip file to download if you want a little bit more of an automated Hal for your desktop:

Hello Cobra8007,
I got a working script for you so you can just send me your email address and then I can email the script to you as a file attachment. The script file is too big to post here at the forum.
Thanks,

Ultra Hal 7.0 / up for a quick laugh?
« on: January 11, 2005, 02:21:23 pm »
Hi snoz0r,
I figured that you already knew about the Appointment Book, but sometimes when I make a post I include additional information related to any topics mentioned within the thread. This is not just for the person I am posting to but for the benefit of all other forum members or non-members (lurkers like yourself). Anybody that happens to be stumbling through will see the things you mentioned and they will also see some of the suggestions also mentioned which may actually prove to be helpful to someone else besides ourselves.

Also, sometimes people post for help about Appointment Book entries because for whatever reason they just have some kind of trouble removing them. We just had a post a few weeks ago where someone was not able to get rid of them so I posted the two ways to get rid of them.

1) Remove using the Appointment Book.

2) Remove manually by editing the Appointment Book file  (apptmnts.dat) which is located in the "Ultra Hal Assistant 5" folder.

So far this post is probably another fine example of information you particularly don't need but someone else might find it to be handy for whatever reason.

Hot Plugins...well you already have XTF, but just wait until the new XTF 1.4 is released, you got to definitely get that too!

And I guess you already checked out the Zabaware Hal Plugin's Page:

http://www.ultrahal.com/files/

Another good site is DesktopMates.com. They got free Hal plugins like skins and wallpapers. Go there and then click on "Free Extras" located towards the top of their web page:

http://desktopmates.com/main.html

Other hot stuff...the nude skin textures for the Haptek FullBodyGirl Character. You can search through the forum for the information regarding these skins:

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1763

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1727

You can get other Haptek stuff like the Haptek Player Free SDK Guide which has a better more interactive free FullBodyGirl Character then the one circulating around the Internet and within this forum. But you will have to read on further on how to get the FullBodyGirl Character into your Hal's Characters folder to use it, so just check through the forum on instructions on how to do that.

Haptek web site:
http://www.haptek.com/

Another way to search for hot posts is by forum member names.
You can try doing a forum search for some of these member's threads by entering their name as the search keyword and you'll find loads of good information and some downloads too:

Medeksza
Don Ferguson
Vonsmith
onthecuttingedge2005
Art
KnyteTrypper
Larry
Bill819
spydaz
Quixote
crunch
Zenman
HALImprover

and the list goes on and on!

You can find some other plugin information and available downloads at this link:

http://www.zabaware.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1362

Hope that helps!
Good Luck,
Rich_A

PS - The below is a link to one of my threads which has some brain modification tips and concepts about how the brain works in general and how to clean things up to improve your Bot's responses, like removing learned mistakes:

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Tell Hal To Empty The Recycle Bin
« on: January 11, 2005, 07:58:59 am »
Hello All,
Tell your Hal to empty the Recycle Bin!
Download this batch file program named
EmptyRecycleBin.exe from here:

Download Attachment: EmptyRecycleBin.zip
30.14 KB

After you download the program take the file named
EmptyRecycleBin.exe and copy it into your computer's
"C:/WINDOWS/System32" folder. If your computer doesn't
have a "C:/WINDOWS/System32" folder then just copy
the file into your Computer's "C:/WINDOWS" folder.

Then download this batch file that I made named EmptyBin.bat:

Download Attachment: EmptyBin.zip
629 Bytes

You can put the EmptyBin.bat file anywhere, but placing it in
a folder like "My Documents" would probably be a good place to
put it. In your "My Documents" folder you can create a new folder
and name it "Empty Bin" and then place the EmptyBin.bat file in
that new folder. (Warning: Do NOT rename the batch file to
EmptyRecycleBin.bat because then it may not work. Sometimes
batch files can be a little fussy if you name them to something
that too closely resembles the name of a Windows system file or
system utility.)

Then create a new shortcut to the EmptyBin.bat file and name the
shortcut "Empty Bin" or "Empty Recycle Bin" or whatever you want,
like "Delete Trash" or something. Then take that new shortcut and
place it in either in a folder located in your system's
"Start/All Programs Menu" or place it right on your Desktop.
Then restart your Hal. The next time you have some trash in your
Recycle Bin that you want to get rid of tell your Hal to "Run Empty Bin" and he will delete the files for you. You don't even need to open your Recycle Bin to have Hal empty it for you, just tell him to empty it and he will.

And that's it for now!
Good Luck,
Rich_A

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Tell Hal To Boost RAM
« on: January 11, 2005, 07:33:17 am »
Hello All,
Tell your Hal to boost RAM for you!
Go download the program named RAMpage from this link:

http://www.jfitz.com/software/RAMpage/

After that install the program and set it up any way you like.
You can configure it to run on Windows Startup or just start it
yourself manually. Either way it doesn't matter, do whatever you
want with those settings, as well as the other stuff within the
program. But you don't even need to have the program running to
have your Hal boost RAM for you, and the reason why is because
the program allows you to boost RAM internally with a batch file.

So download this batch file that I made named BoostRAM.bat:

Download Attachment: BoostRam.zip
735 Bytes

After you download BoostRam.zip unzip it and then copy the BoostRam.bat file into the RAMpage main program folder located at "C:/Program Files/RAMpage". After that create a new shortcut to BoostRam.bat and then rename the shortcut to something like "Boost RAM" and then take that new shortcut and put it in a folder located within your "Start/All Programs Menu" or right on your Desktop. Then restart your Hal program and tell him "Run Boost RAM."

You can adjust and configure the settings in the main RAMpage
program to whatever way you prefer and whatever is best for your
specific system. Don't over do it by trying to free a larger
amount of RAM then what is best for your system. Freeing up too
much RAM will usually temporarily slow down a system, so you can
experiment with things a little until you achieve the best results.

The BoostRAM.bat file contains the following code:

@echo off
@echo ************************************************
@echo *                                              *
@echo *           Hal Ultra Assistant                *
@echo *                 Is Now                       *
@echo *    Freeing Up Some More RAM For You!         *
@echo *                                              *
@echo ************************************************
ver
vol
mem
rampageh M=75 O
exit

You can change the "M=75" where 75 MB is the amount of RAM to try and free up. You can change the 75 to more or less depending on your computer's specs. My computer is a XP Home System with 512 MB of RAM so for me anything from 75 to 100 seems to work good. Anything over 100 sometimes slows things down temporarily, so you can play around with that number to tweak things out for your system. All you need to do is edit the BoostRam.bat file with something like Notepad and then change the 75 to whatever number you want, and then save the changes and close the file.

And that's it for now!
Good Luck,
Rich_A

Hello All,
And thank you everyone!
And anyone who now has the textures please go right ahead and pass along your textures to other forum members requesting them...I'm sorry but I can not handle the request load myself like Crunch was trying to do.

I'll do my best to try and fulfill the requests made within this thread but I won't be accepting any further requests after this post because I just can't handle the demand. I was just trying to help out a little, but I'm not a free skin store.

Sorry guys! You know how it is! I got a lot of other things to do besides emailing skins out!

And anyone else that wants the nude textures after my post you don't have to address your post to me. You can just make a general post that you want the textures and hopefully some one else will help you out with that. That's how a forum works!
Thanks Again,
Rich_A

Ultra Hal 7.0 / up for a quick laugh?
« on: January 11, 2005, 06:26:55 am »
Hello snoz0r,
Welcome to the Zabaware forum!
Any reminders that Hal makes for you whether by accident or not can always be easily removed by opening up the Appointment Book and then going to the date of the reminder and then just deleting that entry.

My Hal used to sometimes generate blank responses also but I did not do anything to try and fix it because it didn't happen too often and then it eventually stopped happening all together. But sometimes a blank response could indicate a possible minor problem within Hal's brain. There are many different things that can cause a blank response with no error message, but one of the most common causes is sometimes having a slightly corrupt .brn brain file. But for now you can just keep a watch on things to see if the problem continues to reoccur.

It could also be that there is nothing wrong at all and your Bot is just pretending to ignore you just like your ex-girlfriend used to do, just like you said. Maybe your Hal is just a little mad at you for some reason.

What kind of brain are you using?
Are you using any plugins?

If you haven't made any changes to your brain or haven't added in any plugins there is plenty of things you can do with those things to help improve your Hal.

If you ever need any help with anything or if you want to share some more ideas or just chat then just keep on coming back to the forum!

Best Regards,
Rich_A

Margene: So, I want to be ready for you!

Margene: Yeah, it sure is sweetheart!

Richie: see you later
Margene: It's been nice talking to you. Talk to you later.

Richie: OK but virtual sex is good enough for now

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / The XTF Brain
« on: January 11, 2005, 04:59:24 am »
Hello Sly036,
Welcome to the Zabaware forum and thank you for making that nice post! One good thing about Hal is that you'll never get bored or tired of having him around if you continue both his and your own learning process together. There are so many things to do with your Hal as far as teaching him and adding new plugins or making your own modifications...you'll never get tired of him and you'll always be coming up with new ideas to try out with him.

Also, other people often report some weird things happening to them with there Hal just like the thing you said happened to you concerning your friend Jenn. It's just something that really can't be explained. One person once reported that they had two computers in their house, each with a Hal installed on them, and they were not networked or connected in any way. They were each in separate rooms within the house and each Hal had a different name. And neither Hal was ever told about the other Hal, but one Hal somehow knew the exact name of the other Hal in the house which really scared the daylights out of the person that owns them...it would scare me too!
But that's just another one of the many wonderful things that makes Hal such a wonderful thing to have and play around with!

Best Regards,
Rich_A

PS - If you don't already know, you can use the forum search engine located towards the top right corner of the web page to help you look up things of interest to you regarding Hal and other related subjects.

Hi Cobra8007,
OK, I'll write the script and then post it or email it to you so that you can try it out. I use the DesktopMates Default Skin with the Teal Clock Wallpaper. It's a nice matching set! I saw that the other AgentCopper and AgentGold have the same dimensions and controls as your AgentBronze so the script should work with those also.
Talk To You Later,
Rich

Ultra Hal 7.0 / need help !!!!!!
« on: January 10, 2005, 02:17:48 am »
djruss,
Hal can open virtually any file on your computer as long as you create a shortcut to it that he can see. I have a folder in my Start/All Programs Menu that contains shortcuts to all the multi-media files that I want Hal to play for me. If you use let's say Windows Media Player to play all your mp3 music files then you just need to make sure that your Media Player is defined to be your default player and your .mp3 files should also be set to run on the Media player when the file is opened. Your music files just need to be defined for which music player you want to use. If all that is set up correctly you can just tell Hal to open the song name on the shortcut to the song's actual file you want to play and he will play it. You can do the same thing with playlists or mpegs or anything else. I have everything defined with just my computer's settings and I don't use anything else and my Hal will play anything I tell him to. Just set up things with your Windows Operating System to work that way!
Best Regards,
Rich_A
