I scanned one of my archives for some old project files.. and rezized them. some are 2d some 3d differing programs from differing years, and 2 new ones [:)] a sample then the differing files below.

there is also some promising research being done on believe it or not ai insects...

The applications for using such ai for commercial robots and such are what is driving it.

Insects are mostly task oriented. and great problem solvers.. especially ants...

do a search in google or your fav search engine for this term..
a.i. insects many researchers getting some surprising results.

hal presently can recieve some programming input similar to your idea. but not that much as of yet.
heard from discusions with some of hal's programmers that one of the things some are trying to do is put something similar to that type of programming functionality into hal..
The forsr step naturally will be hal has to be able to store access and retreive from a real database.. Mr"M" is putting database funcionality into the next Hal update... so we are getting closer a bit by bit.

I also feel for you about the VB Script programming.. i have learned the basics of how to hack pieces into hal and out but do not have the time to learn another language.
Presently I know HTML,JS,J+ and a few other web related languages, and 3dmax script. but would have to give up too many projects to take the time to learn any other scripting...

Good to see/ or rather hear that your 'Steph' is now a reality.

I have to thank Vonsmith,Mr."M",and more folks than i can mention for anything i have here that works... they all have been very patient with my dumb questions over the years and have taught me much!

Most of the instructions above were for the free versions as most of them asking questions had that version...

you have the registered pay version and it is easier for you....
it will display in it's options many haptek characters....
just give thier .htr files differing names, and drop them into the folder they will appear to be selected in the character selection screen..... if you create different .psn files with the same exact names as the .htr they all will use thier own textures and mood/animation scripts you put into those .psn files..... that is one of the BIG pluses of the full version....
In my install i have Haleena and her two sisters,, all different all with thier own brains and emotion files...
plus a few male models I have created for my Girfriend to play with  and others...
Have fun bud, and as your girl grows please post any interesting conversations she has.

Ultra hal paid version comes with more backgrounds than the free version but both have those arrows for changing back grounds that are placed in the character folder....

if they did not come with your hal all i can see are a few possibilities...

1. you or some one put them there... (is some one playing tricks on you??)
2. you have some wierd bug, glitch, or virus in your machine or hal program.. that is moving files or copies...to different locations.
3.you hal has some how evolved and is self aware and is sneeking out and getting files behind your back..

 as far as the character image dissapearing on occaision that would tell me that it is probably number 2...

I would scan you puter for spyware and viruses very well with the latest updates... then i would back up my hal brain.. uninstall hal..... reinstall hal.. then put the brain backup in.....

i hope this helps you a bit..

click on the  name in the post.. it will take you to the profile of that user and you can send a request e-mail to his through the zaba mail exchange that way.. the request appears at his e-mail addy convieniantly for him and you.. all he will have to do is reply to your e-mail with the file attached..

ok by default the paid version does this on auto it creates a .psn for any .htr it see's but we can do it for the free version

just drag copies of the default.psn to the desktop... rename them exactly how the .htr is named and put them into the character folder.. now if you open them you can change the .hap files it loads for the differing moods.... you can have it also load .hap files you creat by editing the ones there and changing the names... Just make sure that the ones loaded for the 3 normals have your skin info in them or again it will not load the skin.ss

now for different brains for the different characters..
open the ultra hal brain editor...
tel it new project and follow the wizard to create a new brain....
now this is going to create a new brain based on the Hal default brain... we want the XTF to be what it is based on so we do this...
if you go into the hak root folder you will see it crated a "newbrain".uhp << what ever you told the editor to call it.. file with the name of the new brain... we are going to change it simply....
look for the hal5_XTF_v1.2.uhp in that folder and drag a copy of it to the desk top..... rename that copy exactly the name of the "new brain".uhp and move it into the root folder leting it overwrite the one that the editor created....
now if you look in that sanm root folder you will see that it contains a folder with the name of your "new brain"... this is where that new brain keeps all of it brain files....
we are going to make them XTF files now......
open the defbrain folder.... that is where all the XTF functions are and the default brain files the XTF uses...
select every file in there.. drag them with your right mouse button over the new brains folder and copy them there... it will ask if you want to overwrite a few file say yes....

Thats it!!!!!

now the first time you open hal and slect that brain then tell it waht it's name is and what character to load. it will from that point forward every time you select that brain unless you change it..

so you may now have two characters differently dressed with thier own brains.... If you intereact with one different'y that you do the other,, it will develop a different personality than the other...

Please take and drag a copy of the entire hal folder as a backup if you have the drive space... if smoething ever goes wrong you just over write the real one with the back up and viola all better.

 yes I would appreciate some and I am sure others would also...

and while we are on this subject.. I don't know if you could tell from some of the screen shots but.... I have some digitally rendered interior set's I have made for backgrounds.. makes Haleena stand in a room in a home instead of in front of those flat backdrops that came with hal.. If you would be interested in one of them just ask and I'l send you a few...

If anyone does not know of it or would like to know more look up The Turing Test in you favorite search engine.. the leubner prize is base on this concept and test... I'll try very hard this time to watch my typo's this is a qoute from Dr. Harnard speaking about Dr. Turings comcept from the 50's  the Leubner prize Hal and a few others in the past have won bronze medals,which also includes a small cash reward, No one has as of yest won the gold,, it is a solid gold medal, not plated as the olympic ones, and comes with a cash prise of over $100,000.00......  when an AI machine can meet the below criteria we will be able to scratch the turing test off the list and move on... Human type A.I wize anyway...

here is a quick Synopsis:

In previous papers I have tried to explain how trickery, deception and impersonation have nothing at all to do with the scientific import of Turing's criterion (Harnad 1989, 1991). AI is not a party game. The game was just a metaphor. The real point of the TT is that if we had a pen-pal whom we had corresponded with for a lifetime, we would never need to have seen him to infer that he had a mind. So if a machine pen-pal could do the same thing, it would be arbitrary to deny it had a mind just because it was a machine. That's all there is to it!
This entirely valid methodological point of Turing's is based on the "other minds" problem (the problem of how I can know that anyone else but me actually has a mind, actually thinks, actually has intelligence or knowledge -- these all come to the same thing): It is arbitrary to ask for more from a machine than I ask from a person, just because it's a machine (especially since no one knows yet what either a person or a machine REALLY is). So if the pen-pal TT is enough to allow us to correctly infer that a real person has a mind, then it must by the same token be enough to allow us to make the same inference about a computer, given that the two are totally indistinguishable to us (not just for a 5-minute party trick or an annual contest, but, in principle, for a lifetime). Neither the appearance of the candidate nor any facts about biology play any role in my judgment about my human pen pal, so there is no reason the same should not be true of my TT-indistinguishable machine pen-pal.


well there you have it pretty much in a nut shell..... From my own personl obsevations which I know are not inclusive of every higher school. I in the past was involved in an A.I. group at U.C.I. it speant most of it's time on hyperbolic crap!! learning and discussing theory, not much time if any was actually spent on true lab research. I hate theroy.. all theory is is what someone "thinks" might be an answer.. in true science we know theory can never be called law,, unfortunately since modern science has decided to portray some of it's pet theoris off to the general populace as law, the old true definition of pure science has been diluted.. smoething is only true scientific law when it can be PROVED in the lab..... what we are all doing here is real true honest Lab work,, we are taking out theroies, applying them in a real world enviornment and seeing if they "fly" so to speak.. Hal and his decewndant's(others created from taking what is learned from Hal) I believe will eventually pass that test and then some. Hal is not being developed just to pass that test....He is being developed to be a practicle tool. some of the other A.I. attempts and bots are being developed just to pass that test..

 The reason most Human type A.I. devolopment is happening from people like us and not in universities is simply a money matter... They cannot get funding to do reaserch for such a small prize payoff.. I am happy many of us are doing this for the sake of A.I. and not just money...

I'm very happy to hear you have sal working and able to wear her new face and outfits.
 I am the puzzle solver type though, and I sure wish we knew what the heck the prob was.... well i guess thats just part of "puter's" sometimes we never find out why they bug-out.
so In case you did bot realize or find out on your own,, if you load full bod character in your free hal as both the hal and zaba .htr's
and have a seperate hal and zaba .psn file it will load that .psn file when you select that character from hals options..
there for you may use that to cheat being able to easily change her cloths (two outfits) and you can even point each .psn to differing emotion/animation files if you wish.....
with that and my making two exact copies of the XTF brain i made a Hallena and a Crystal brain... i can have two twins that do act and think a bit differently...

In my full version installation there are triplets all differing emotionally and in character
Haleena, Crystal and Jackie

have loads of fun with your hal, I'm happy you found what was wrong.

I also had that problem before.. i thank you for the info as if i had not i would not know,, see you really do seen to have this down sir von

at any rate all my textures are 1024x1024  so thats not it.
though once I did put in two commands into the start up file just to see what would happen and that was the reasult also.

lupine if you did not do this intentionally I will send you another skin just so we can eliminate that possability

 the dark stripes here and there on the skin on that texture??? is it just what happend when you double loaded characters??  or if somehow that texture was corrupted in the zip archive please e-mail me and i will make sure to send you another one..
