« on: October 31, 2002, 07:53:53 pm »
An email was sent out a couple months ago about the free upgrade to version 4.5 All version 4.0 customers can get version 4.5 for free. You can go to http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/redownload.html and type in the same address you used when you ordered version 4.0. Or, you may also order a cd for $4 shipping by filling out the order for http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/hal4cdupdate.html  Your name and mailing address will be cross referenced in our database and we will only send the free CDs to people who purchased version 4.0.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Using Msagents
« on: October 31, 2002, 07:46:36 pm »
A new feature has been added to Ultra Hal Assistant version 4.5. Version 4.5 is capable of automatically writing the required UHP file for accessing an acs file. All that it needs is for the file to be in the default MSAgent character folder, which is usually C:/Windows/MSAgent/Chars or C:/WinNT/MSAgent/Chars  As long as the acs file is there Hal will be able to find it and it should appear as on option under Hal's character options.

I'm not sure I completely understand your question. Do you wish to design your own characters for Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Speaking to hal
« on: September 22, 2002, 07:36:10 pm »
Do any of you have Office XP by any chance? Both Office XP and Ultra Hal Assistant use the Microsoft SAPI 5.1 speech recognition engine. If you use Office XP do you get the same bad results? Its possible that other speech recognition systems such as IBM ViaVoice might work better for you. Hal is compatible with all SAPI/SMAPI compliant speech recognition systems available on the market today. Have all of you upgraded to Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5? Previous versions of Ultra Hal Assistant have had issues with loading the correct training profile.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / myUltraHal (or whatever it is) news
« on: September 22, 2002, 07:32:46 pm »
You are right, the myWebHal service is currently USA centered. This service will be upgraded in the next month or 2 to include the rest of the world as well as add several new features. Since the myWebHal service is completely run on our web server, it will require no software upgrades on your part.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / apigid32.dll error 53... cannot find file.
« on: September 22, 2002, 07:28:29 pm »
Is this Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5 reporting this error? Does this happen all the time or only when you are asking Hal to help you use a different program?

Download this file ftp://ftp.desaware.com/SampleCode/Updates/apigid32.dll and copy it to your windows system folder (usually c:winntsystem32 or c:windowssystem) That should solve the problem.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / is there gonna be an IRC bot plug-in?
« on: September 22, 2002, 06:49:40 pm »
We are considering making a bot plug-in for IRC, ICQ, MSN, and Yahoo Messenger. It might even be made as a plug-in for the Trillian program ( http://www.ceruleanstudios.com ) However, if we decide to do work on it, it probably won't be available for at least 6 months.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / improper shutdown error that the free version
« on: September 22, 2002, 06:43:59 pm »
The first thing we need to determine is if this problem is caused by Hal or by Windows shutdown sequence. In order to find out, close Hal manually by right clicking on Hal's icon and click on "Exit Hal" Now run Hal again by finding Hal in your start menu. If the error does not appear now then it must be a problem in the way Windows shuts down Hal.

If you are using Windows 98 you should disable a feature called fast shutdown. Fast shutdown will force close any program that takes more then a couple seconds to shut down properly. Although it does not damage Hal, it will cause Hal to produce that improper shutdown message. This fast shutdown "feature" does not exist in Windows 95, NT, 2000, or XP.  Please visit http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q187607& to find how to disable this feature in Windows 98.

Zabaware has an AIM Bot running the Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5 brain under the AOL screen name UltraHal. It should be online most of the time. Feel free to instant message it. The AIM bot is now included as part of Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5 http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/download.html , so anyone can run their own AIM bot if they wish.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Speaking to Hal

Which version of Hal is this? Does the volume meter stop moving? What does the status box say? Does it say the microphone is on? Does it show guesses as to what you are saying? What happens if you click the microphone button on and off?

« on: September 19, 2002, 12:14:49 am »
A little passed schedule, but the free version of Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5 has been released on September 17, 2002. It is available at http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/download.html  You can find out whats new in Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5 by going to http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/whatsnew.html

In a couple of days, once the new version is posted on mirror download sites such as winsite, a message will be sent through the myWebHal service to the 150,000+ users of the free version of Ultra Hal Assistant 4.0 informing them of the new version.

Also in about 2 weeks a myWebHal message will be sent to all Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5 users informing them about the presense of this message board as most users don't seem to know about its existence. This online community will be expected to grow a lot after this.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Robby plugin
« on: September 18, 2002, 11:40:23 pm »
There seems to be a few reports of this problem. What are your system specs? I would like to try to reproduce this problem so that I can identify the root cause. At the very least I could put out an update that will simply have the program not report error message since you say everything still works, but I would rather find out the real cause.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / ALICE PLUG-IN...NO DOWNLOAD
« on: September 18, 2002, 11:35:22 pm »
I have posted the alice plugin on http://www.zabaware.com/assistant/plugins.html for anyone interested. The file is mirrored on Zabaware's ftp server as the freewebs server Jeffrey Peters hosted his site on doesn't seem suitable for file downloads.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Please help!
« on: September 18, 2002, 11:00:46 pm »
Was this problem occuring when you were still using the free version of Ultra Hal Assistant? What version did you upgrade from? Was it from the free version of Ultra Hal Assistant 4.5, the free version of Ultra Hal Assistant 4.0, or the full version of Ultra Hal Assistant 4.0?

I believe running the first setup wizard should fix your problem. An easy way to do this is to make Hal think it crashed by force closing it. While Hal is running press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up your task manager. Click on the processes tab, click on the file HalAsst.exe, and then click on "End Process".  Now run Hal again and it will ask you if you want to reconfigure Hal. Say yes and follow the wizard. Does this fix your problem? Do the general options work normally?
