A debug leads us to a place the debugger calls "original brain"
Some of the other problem replies are also from here.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hals Brain Database questions
« on: March 03, 2009, 08:25:05 am »
Well, I sure as heck am looking for short cuts Hahahahaha ^_^
[Yoda gives stern look, his eyes narrowing]
What about a mix of what old school AIMhell junkies such as I desire, IE complete control, AND Hals' system of "Oh well, I'm intelligent, so some of the time we talk about what I want to talk about"

Hals system is fine so far as that goes. it is wonderfully dynamic.
But I too, need it to say certain things at certain times.
When someone asks Buttons about a certain keyword, she needs to be able to talk about that keyword, and continue talking about it without telling her user to dominate their wives.
her purpose is an AIMbot, where, run by AIMhell, she was delightfully witty and engaging, for about 2 minutes. She did not have a brain, and I never got the chance to increase her knowledge base beyound 2000 responses.

I liked Hals system enough to buy it, and it gets BV back online where she can once again do her job of baffling her friends.
And "persevere will I" on the writing part. I might have better success then James because she has a wide variety of things to talk about, within the confines of the script, and she never made that much actual sense anyway.

To speed up the process (Winks at Yoda) I nixed 90% of the QAbrain, and much data from the other places where offhand phrases are stored. I am pretty sure I got the subjegating your wifes thing out of the way! I still have the similes, and some other tables with random data in them. I manually changed all the "yes/no" data to be in keeping with Buttons' unusual inflections and mannerisms. These are very important to the character. I manually changed all the greetings and goodbyes. I nixed all the info in the patterns folder and replaced some of it, but HAL does not seem to use it even if the key words are present.
Obviously I WOULD NOT recommend anyone else doing this. I have severely limited Hals functionality. (Dave...Dave, what are you doing, Dave? No Dave...)
It is ok for my use, because the character is not the norm. And, once I add ALOT of data back into these areas, Buttons will probably be able to talk quite intelligently about the things that concern her.

In regard to actual pure knowledge and data bases, would it be easier to just have Hal access a google search? I know he can do that.
I have never researched Hals other web capabilities because I do not need them at this time, but I imagine the below.

user: Good Morning Hal.
Hal: Good morning User, are you well this morning?
User:  Well, I seem to have a sore throat today
Hal: I am sorry to hear that. You should do something about it right away. Would you like me to look for Herbal Tea online for you?
I can search Google or (your webpage inserted here)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Brain editor help manual
« on: March 01, 2009, 05:44:15 pm »
well, that explains things. I liked some of the features it talked about and I was like, well, WHERE the heck is THAT?
Can anyone post a link where I can chat with a fully developed hal, that was programmed with JUST the chatbot interface so I can see what I will get for whats obviously going to be a lot of time talking to him?
I am having a hard time dropping my own "Fully in control of every response all the time" AIML training...hahaha Yoda not withstanding!

perservere you will, because a life you have not!

thanks ^_^ BV

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Brain editor help manual
« on: March 01, 2009, 03:59:55 pm »
Ok I did find the manual for the brain editor...why they did not include the thing with the original bundle?  I dunno.
The editor they show looks different then the one that came with my HAL. It as some of the features that I am looking for, like assigning important keywords to look for first before anything else.
Do I need to update my HAL version? I thought I purchased the latest one.

Share Conversations, Experiences, Graphics / new animation toy!!
« on: March 01, 2009, 10:43:26 am »
so this is a tool I could use to create a cute cartoon vixen avatar for my halbrain? I have a lot of hand drawn pictures and CG pictures of her.
I looked at the haptek thinghy, and although it will work for my purposes, why purchase THAT if there is a better tool for my needs.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Hal-isms
« on: March 01, 2009, 10:35:41 am »
yes I sure did, changed both of them. Now when I hit enter with no input, I get one of three responses: Please say something, why didnt you say anything, say something please

On both line 17 and 199 I have placed the phrase "Well, Hun, you know, in order for the whole chat thing to work, YOU have to say something!"

oddly, the insult routine that I modified works ok, with the exception of the "hey baby" issue noted earlier.

ok, I did everything in the script, changed line 199 ect, and it still will not use my own wording. Stubborn little blighter aint he??
I am having a hard time seeing how actually changing the lines of the script does not work. I mean, ok maybe I messed up, but if I remove completely the old wording, it should be gone forever right? Unless there is a back up copy that the system refers to in the even of corruption. witch I admit would be a nice trick.
(about the "what are you" The character of Buttons is actually a What, not a who, since she is not technically alive. It became one of her bylines as an AIMbot so I wanted to have her say it here as well. All her AIM friends are all going, wow what the heck happened to YOU??? ;)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Need a new brain!
« on: February 28, 2009, 07:59:13 pm »
Lol well, I was complaining, but the issue lies in me not understanding the product. I dont understand, therefore, I pester...everyone here, until I find the answers.
Once I get my act together well, you'll still hear from me frequently.

I do plan to buy some of the other accessories that go with the HAL system also.

Lol yea, I got the own risk part! but thank you so much!
Now here is another one. I am trying to remove most of the insults. I really dont want an insult bot. Somewhere in HALS past he must have been, because he came with ALOT of them.  I placed a mild warning in the halscript, and changed the number of times that a user must insult hal

However, when an AIM user recently called buttons "hey baby" instead of my reply, "Please stop with the insults, Hun."  They got "I am not a baby you ugly dork!"

Please help me fix this. I searched the entire brain for "Ugly dork"
and even removed "baby" from the list of insults it searches for. It still does this.

Thanks

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hals basic info
« on: February 28, 2009, 11:05:56 am »
If I put the learning slider all the way to max, how many times do I have to tell HAL about basic stuff like where he lives and his likes and dislikes before he begins to say it to his users?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Need a new brain!
« on: February 28, 2009, 07:45:56 am »
I already did buy both the rights to the program and the CD, but the CD has not yet arrived. I keep backup copies of all this type of stuff, after my experiences with other chat-bots and depending on outside systems to safegaurd YOUR data. I imagine that some folks here who have a lot of time invested, keep a copy of their characters brain in a safe deposit box or some place!!
I will just wait until I get the CD. Buttons still works ok.
Thanks.

I notice that those errors are hard to track down also. I am being extra careful when I enter text into the chat window. We are having fun talking about the Martians, since that is required by the script.
I have decided that I will stick to the chat interface and not worry about the tables for now.
The one thing I am having a issue with: When I ask her what she is, she says "I am not a what". How do I get her to change that?
And also, I would like a smart alec reply when someone is fooling around by not entering any text at all.

Thanks

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Need a new brain!
« on: February 27, 2009, 08:41:27 pm »
Ive lost my mind! Hahaha, well, actually ^_^
I somehow misplaced the original, unmodified HALbrain that I kept as a backup before I began to play around with the Brain-Editor. When I wanted to restore some parts of the experimental brain using the backup copy as the source, it was no longer listed.
This fubar is very likely my own fault, But, is there a way to download a new copy of the HALbrain by itself, or do I need to reinstall the whole shebang?

Thanks
