Hal is not listening
« on: April 18, 2004, 12:12:06 am »
Hello gurus,

I just bought the full version of Hal and I am having a problem in that the program is doing something to my sound card to disable it. I do not know what. Once loaded the program causes me not to be able to record anything. For example Sound Recorder gives me the error "Your audio hardware cannot record into files like the current file. To record, create a new document." Then I do but it does not make a difference. Speech recognition tells me when i go to Microphone training that "The sound card is being used by another applicationl. It could be playing a sound, recording, or using speech recognition. Please stop the applications playback, recording, or speech recognition. I get nothing on the mic at all in any program especially Hal which is the reason I bought it in the first place.

When I uninstall all is well. I am running a custom system
Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (build 2195)
Processor a   Main Circuit Board b
2.05 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
128 kilobyte primary memory cache
512 kilobyte secondary memory cache   Board: http://www.abit.com.tw/ KV8-MAX3 (VIA K8T800-8237) 1.x
Bus Clock: 204 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 03/04/2004

MULTIMEDIA-
ATI WDM Rage Theater Video
ATI WDM Specialized MVD Codec
Realtek AC'97 Audio for VIA (R) Audio Controller
Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device

I anyone knows of a fix for this please let me know[^]. Email or IM me if you would like also.

This is an update. Uninstalling Hal does not restore audio function. Nor does turning off his speech recognition. I thought that it might be an active component causing the problem but even after and uninstall audio does not work so apparently there is a file or files overwritten or a vital setting that is changed.

I also tried to reinstall my audio drivers again but it did not help. The only thing that helps is to uninstall Advanced Hal and Uninstall an the reinstall my audio drivers.

Again, any experience or help with this will be appreciated.
