Facebook HAl broken
« on: April 22, 2012, 10:24:16 pm »
I tried to get facebook hal on my new facebook account for my website, and it kept freezing up my browser on my desktop.
I thought maybe I have some setting not allowing it, although I never touched settings.

So I just tried on my laptop to connect to facebook hal on my main account, and my browser still freezes

I emailed Robert already, hopefully he can fix this

Hi all,

considering they have an army of programmers constantly changing the format and set up in Facebook it's pretty difficult for one individual to keep up with all the changes.

I sympathize with Robert, having to deal with all those changes.

Like my daddy always said, if it ain't broke don't fix it, too bad I can't get Facebook to listen to my daddy. LOL

sincerely,

C load.

I noticed it a couple weeks ago. It's on my todo list. Facebook must have made some sort of change to their API which broke Hal. I'll have to go in and figure out what happened, I'll try to do it this weekend.

Thanks Mr. Medeksza, I hope it turns out to be a simple task ya.
I agree with cload, they should stop changing there API frequently.

Hal's facebook app is back up and running at http://www.facebook.com/Zabaware   I still have to spruce up Hal's new timeline page and add a cover picture, but the actual app should be working as it did before. Facebook changed their API a couple times over the 2 years since Hal was first implemented there as an app and they recently deprecated the old API which causes Hal to stop working. Quite a bit of reprogramming to get it working again, but I think its all back. Let me know if everything still works for you guys.

yes and no

Works great again on my personal Facebook account,
However I can not create a Hal account for my new websites Facebook account.  I basically get sent into a loop Example below.

Example:
1) I Start off at http://www.Facebook.com/Zabaware from link provided in your post.
2) Click play game, brings me to http://apps.facebook.com/ultrahal/?fb_source=timeline
3) If I click on any of the three links within that page it brings me back to http://www.facebook.com/Zabaware

Sorry to hear it was a lot re-coding to get it up and going again.

Hal must be getting a little ahead of himself. But I'm thinking of using http://phonegap.com/ to convert the web-app I made for iPhone into native apps for all mobile systems.

I fixed the endless loop problem for new users. It was failing to request permissions to read the user's birthday and friends list. This was something automatically granted in the past but something I needed to explicitly request now.

I think Facebook Hal has been down for a long time now. Not sure if it will ever be back up...
