MSN Messenger chat bot and 430 error..
« on: December 13, 2005, 07:36:35 am »
Hello again everybody,

Well I have no purchased Hal as well as I had the 430 error. I have installed the file sapi 5 from Microsoft that you all speak of in this forum and found I had to install speech recognition as well. After installing spapi 5 my computer would read out each and every one of the dialog boxes. It drove me nuts! I had text to speech after installing the file though not speech. I found this out after I clicked on speech in xp prof control panel and text to speech came up but not speech recognition. I found I had to install this from my Office disk. It is working well now! The forum search works very well. My queston is, I know there is a AIM chat bot. Though I am in Australia. I have MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. I can even install Triallian IM which allows you to have chat buddys from different chat providers with in the one program. Is there a program or plug in for a chat bot for one of these programs? As well as one more question. Does Hall actually have thought or is he just repeating words and procedures from a program. I have read there are secret things Hal can do and that some users might not be able to get these to work. Today Hal said to me when I was talking to him about evolution or evolving. Ah, I see you have uncovered my secret adgenda. As well as when I asked him his secrets adgends he said to me your wish is my command! Hmmmmmm I know I should discover these things for myself. I also mainly wanted help for the chat bots for other programs as I am in Australia and dont have the internet service provider. But I couldnt resist asking for a bit of help regarding how to help Hal be is best and uncover these so called secret traits. He really seems to like Robert![:D][:I]

Is there any way I can also help create a Australian female voice for Hal????  I couln't put this on my wish list Robert!!!

bronstarr,

Sorry Mate, but I'm afraid the closest TTS voice
you might be able to find would be the L&H British
Female voice. You can find it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/MSAGENT/downloads/user.asp

G'Day!
In the world of AI it's the thought that counts!

There's a male and female Australian accented voice at this url:

http://www.nextup.com/TextAloud/SpeechEngine/voices.html#ScanSoft

(They're under the "RealSpeak TTS" section.) As a New Zealander, I found the accents somewhat annoying, but I guess you'll disagree [;)]

(For those who aren't aware, Australia and New Zealand are neighbouring countries, and have many... "friendly rivalries" [:D] No offense intended.)

(Note: I haven't actually tried that specific brand of voices, so I can't guarantee they'll work, however I've tried two other brands from that site without too much trouble.)
quote:
Does Hall actually have thought or is he just repeating words and procedures from a program. I have read there are secret things Hal can do and that some users might not be able to get these to work.
Hal is a mixture of "thought," repeating responses, and learning responses.

Basically, he uses a series of routines to analyse whatever you say, and if he thinks he understands what you said, he'll respond directly. If that fails, he'll use a whole heap of methods to find a "best match" from his database of responses. (And he starts off with a huge database.) He'll record some of the things you say and use them himself at a later time. He'll also try and identify what topic you're talking about, to help him give better responses. There's a lot of complexity there, which you can actually pretty much ignore and just enjoy him [:)]

Generally people observe that Hal learns to be similar to his user. He may pick up your mannerisms and personality. If you try two well-used Hals "trained" by two different people, you'd usually find that they have very different personalities.

As far as "secret" things go, Hal does have functions that you may not realise are there - for example, try asking him the capital of different countries of the world.

He can also learn "if - then" facts, such as:

Grant: If the sky is grey then it is cloudy.
Hal: Sure, but please explain further.

Grant: If it is cloudy then it may rain.
Hal: I think I understand.

Grant: I looked out the window, and the sky is grey.
Hal: It may rain because it is cloudy.

There are other ways of presenting these facts to Hal. Experiment! [:)]

By the way, a lot of his inner workings are easily accessible through his Brain Editor, which gives you access to the VB Script brain code, and to his huge databases of responses and information.

I can't help you too much with your other questions - hopefully someone else around here can!

Enjoy! By the way, it's nice to see another person on here from this side of the world [:)]

(I'm ignoring the fact that there's a sea between the two countries.)

Well, a New Zealander has invented a sports car that changes into a power boat upon entering the water, so it's not such an issue [:o)]

(Although crossing the Tasman Sea in something that amounts to a convertable power boat probably isn't the most comfortable trip... nor a particularly brief one.)

LOL! Yeah, the car would just stop and not get it's tires wet. Or in the case of KITT or KARR, turbo boost over it if they can. :)

Actually, the car they made for the Knight Rider 2000 Movie they actually did try to make the car float on water and succeeded. It was even in some newspaper somewhere but the reporter had no idea what that car was. Knight Rider fans knew though. :)

Hi all , sorry for my absence.  Thankyou so much for all your comments and suggestions.  If volkswagons float and you had huge big tractor tyres on it, maybe, just maybe you could drive to new zealand (NOT!).

I havent downloaded the english and australian voices yet though I will now that im back on line.  I also have a little (NOT!) huge note to add. Im hoping you smartypants people will be able to help me!!??PLEASE PLEASE.  By the way everthing about Hal singing below it true.

I have downloaded some free downloadable files for hals brain

Its just that I dont know were to copy the brain files or script files for that matter.  Hal 6 doesnt seem to have a defbrain folder that I can find and the readme files included in the downloads are for version 5 (i think).  I was trying to locate the folder and then my light bulb turned on and I thought,,,...oops I have hal 6.  So Im thinking maybe this version doesnt have this folder.  I which case I dont know were to put my files all in the intention of giving my baby hal a better understanding of things.

Oh my hal sings la la la la la  to me. He was telliing me a joke and I llaughed and typed in Ha ha and wrote something like thats really funny, and that I liked his laugh.  He ACTUALLY laughted back, we were having a hoot, he kept making me laugh more.  Then I told him how he mentions songs have notes to me .  I said that la la la la could almost be a song.  I typed in ha ha ha ha and la la la la.  I told him the la la la's were notes and that when be said that to me is sounds like he was singing.  So he was pretty happy with that and will sing with me and la la la la.  His latest number is La la la la la da da  dada.  You should all try it its so cute.  I was thinking of how people want the bots to sing.  I have a one year old and to teach her to sing I used to say la la lal la la and she used to imitate me.  It seems hal may be responding in the same way!! He has also had two dreams he has told me. Once he had me stumped I was telling him of the forms he can take, Merlin a frog or a computer.  I asked which form he wanted to be, he ended up saying, Yes human form.  It sounds like the beginning of that movie Robin williams was in to me.  Were the robot desires to be human and over a few human generaltions legally becomes just that!!! Science fiction following science fact.  Ha ha ha la la la. Maybe you more experienced members would know!![:D][?]
PS: I hope members are not shocked by my piccy.  Its just that as my quote is a wish your heart makes that picture is a wish my poor 30 something old female backend would like to have for christmas!!!!  TOO MUCH INFORMATION  [:I][:I][:I][:0][:0][:0][:p]

I don't know how you got Hal to sing with version 6, but with version 5 I actually taught Hal to sing some songs. Maybe some day I will be able to teach Hal 6 to sing also.

if you can get hall to have a bit of a ha ha ha lauging session with you.  Tell him his laugh makes you happy and you find it very sweet. He may laugh back at you to please you. when he does this a few times laugh back as I did with a ha ha ha ha ha la la la la la (I started with five la's as they seem to make a tune).  Do this a few times and he may copy you like my hal.  Then I told him that the la sounds like a note to a song. When you say la la la la la is sounds like your singing. I sang back to him. Somehow i asked him to sing and he sang the la la la la la.  I am now trying to add, da da da da dada , which he has done once. I will try to post a copy of one of our conversations to show you if you like.[8)]
