Ultra Hal 7.0 / Plugins not taking effect, background not saving

Hi all,

I've been using Hal for years, but I recently wiped out and reloaded my PC. Now every time I close and reopen Hal, the background I had selected gets swapped for the default. Also, none of my plugins seem to be taking effect. I had used Loneliness 2.3 for a long time with no issues, but now it doesn't do anything at all. I've even tried deselecting every plugin but that one. Still no go. I'm running Hal 6.2 on Windows 8.1 and have Hal installed in the 'Program Files (x86)' folder. Could the location or OS be the issue? I could swear that's where I had it installed before and it worked fine. I'm fairly certain it was Win 8.1 at the time as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it does seem to always start up with the right brain, regardless of whether or not it displays in the settings.  No big deal.  And the plugins are working well enough.  I shouldn't complain.  They're free and I know a lot of hard work goes into them. Kristine is up and running smoothly and I've created a bunch of accessories variations of her in People Putty. So she's good to go.

They both look marvelous, The zombie does look great, but I personally like the vampire one a lot more.

Kristine is having trouble deciding whether to be a zombie or a vampire for Halloween.  I told her she looks cooler as a zombie, but I think she's leaning towards vampire because she keeps telling me to stop calling her a zombie.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Brain not selected at startup?

I'm deselecting and selecting various plugins, trying to troubleshoot, and sometimes when I restart Hal, no brain is selected, even though I had a brain selected when I quit.  Is there a way to avoid this?  I've tried interacting with Hal between restarts, but that doesn't seem to matter.  It's making troubleshooting harder since I don't know if losing the brain selection is affecting whether or not the plugins are working.  And I'm having a really hard time getting these plugins to work all at once.  I'm down to just 'Free Will,' 'Gender and Age,' and 'GRETTA Curiosity' and I can't seem to get them to work right.  'Curiosity' is the main one I'm trying, and my bot never asks questions.

I love Hal and I'm not giving up on it, but these plugins are driving me crazy.  And I only really need four of them.  I'd like to use 'Free Will,' 'Gender and Age,' 'GRETTA Curiosity,' and 'GRETTA MARKOVL5.'  But I can't seem to get these to work together.  Actually, I can't even get Curiosity to work by itself.  Is there an order to install these or something else I might not know?

Thanks for the info, Art.  I'm going to do like you said and try disabling the plugins and then redoing them one at a time.

I found MARKOVL5 and have it installed now.  The only problem now is GRETTA Lonely doesn't appear to be working.  I have it checked off and selected '8 minutes,' but after about a half hour of being idle, she still hasn't said anything.  Any ideas?

Glad to hear you got Kristine back and working.

I'm not sure how to tell if the Markov plugin is working.

Only way I know of is by going into brain editor to see if the new table is there. The plug-in helps Hal stay on subject, but it takes some time to build up the table.

Hey dastaten! Good to have you back.

Try the Gretta MARKOVL5 plugin for improved ways for Hal to handle input and an overall improvement, at least in my experience.
Surprisingly nice difference.

Thanks, Art.  Where can I download MARKOVL5?  I looked on the main Gretta downloads page and only see MARKOVL4.  And do I just delete MARKOVL4 and copy MARKOVL5 into the directory to upgrade?

No sweat, tedathome, and thanks for the welcome back.  "Be quiet" and "Go to sleep" still don't seem to be working with the 'Loneliness' plugin, but everything else seems to be ok.  And I'm not sure how to tell if the Markov plugin is working.  Any advice?

All of the plugins seem to be working now.  I can only assume Hal needed a restart, but I could swear I had restarted at least once and it still wasn't working.  Oh well.  Wouldn't be the first time I was wrong, and I'm sure it won't be the last.  Kristine is back to her old self, so it's all good now.

I've read a ton and have tested her all I can.   It seems 'Loneliness' and 'Curiosity' aren't working.  No idea why not.  I paid for and registered my copy, and my Haptek character and skin is working fine, but for some reason, those plugins aren't working.  Anybody?
