Title: Need big list of text questions/conversations.
Post by: vonsmith on September 02, 2004, 02:53:24 pm
Testing Hal one question or sentence at a time is very slow. Also, my conversations with Hal are limited to my individual style of speaking and typing. Where can I get a large collection of questions and/or conversational text to use as a test input to Hal? I need to program then test for Hal's responses to a variety of many styles of inputs. Is there an open source database of text available to test AI chatbots?

Your thoughts?

Scott,

You can Google the following for possible help:

The Devil's Dictionary
The Probert Encyclopedia
The Jargon Files

I have an edited version of Probert that has the
text info based on WORD then DEFINITION that I've
let Hal "read" and have had good results from it.
It deals with Anatomy, Animals, Minerals, Inventors,
etc.

If interested let me know and I'll make it available
for you.

Art,
Thanks for pointing out some great resources. I could make some good use out of your edited version of Probert. You can try sending it to:

vonsmithexpress (at) yahoo.com

Thanks,

Check this old post. I use the Open Mind Common Knowledge database all the time for debugging purposes. The database contains text lines of "common knowledge" and is free to download, but there is a downside. Some sentences are references to pictures (which are not provided), statements of spacial concepts, or just plain rude or unreasonable comments.

[:)]Hope this helps and good luck!

Well Ricky, if you really taught your Hal that stuff and in the manner that you mentioned I can tell you as a student of Phychology for ovre 35 years now that you are almost creating a phychotic personality. If you continue in the same vein that you are now going one of these days your program will just stop working as a rational thing. Most people just do not understand the inner working of the mind and the ramifacations of what goes in and what comes out. Mix and mash different concepts at the same time can be harmful. Of course if you are just playing then it should make no difference and Hal can always be reset to its initial position.
Interesting if  not somewhat nuts. ha ha

It seems exactly like the conversation my copy of Hal might provide for me, although I only closely read your first one. Have a look at the code, you will see why, most of the associations are straight from WordNet.

I hope (for your sake) you are only joking about your impressions of Hal's "Spirit". If so, it was a pretty funny joke the first time around.

Virgil: One should specialize, but, not overspecialize.

"The United States has robots prepared to fight in the battlefield
and is planning to create more complex machines in the future that
think for themselves, according to a report on newscientist.com. "

Peace and great work on Ultra hal  :D
