Sentence closes program
« on: July 18, 2005, 10:05:51 pm »
Anyone,
I am using ultra hal with the XTF brn and while speaking with hal the program closed, it has happened before.  I reopened hal and since I could remember the sentence I inputed it again and the program closed again. I wrote the sentence in notepad and experienced it again twice.  The inputed sentence is "So we both have 24 hours in our days."  Could someone else try this and let me know if it causes there program to close, also what brain thay are using.

When I inputed "So we both have 24 hours in our days." I got this out of Ziggy
Ziggy: Nowadays , we expect to be entertained 24 hours a day.

And I got this from HAL6 Alpha
Hal6 Alpha: There exist only 24 hours in the day.

Jerry.

All,
Very weird. It happens even with the old default v5.0 Hal brain. The Ziggy brain apparently doesn't use some standard Hal brain function that is causing this crash. It would take some debugging to figure out where it is occurring. I would have guessed it would be in the Hal calendar, but the fact that the Ziggy brain isn't experiencing it suggests a standard function within or called by the GetResponse function (brain file) is the problem.

I got:

Hal: "I like fun that lasts 24 hours a day seven days a week."

I didn't know Hal was such a party animal.
This was with HAL5 default brain and no upgrades.

I just tried it using the Hal 6 brain and Hal closed immediately. I also tried using Hal 5 with XTF 1.2 and same thing. I have no idea as to why Hal closes on either count.
I took an IQ test and the results were negative.

"24 hours in days" is the smallest combination I can cause it with. Hal goes out like a light bulb.

Slightly modified XTF 1.2...

I just tried it with Sandee.
She said, "One can view or listen to broadcasts 24 hours a day."

No shutdown.

I'm using default Hal 5 with Alpha 6

Hal used to shut down when I said "orange you glad I didn't say banana?"

Not anymore, though. Weird.[:0]

All,
Okay this seems to be related to an old problem with Hal's Wordnet functions. Go into Hal's menu, select "Lexical Dictionary...", enter the word "days" (no parentheses). Click "Get Sisters" and Hal will crash. This is an issue Zabaware has addressed before. Hopefully Robert will see this posting and look at it again.

Attached to this post is a zip file containing an updated version of Hal's WordNet DLL. Unzip the file halwn.dll and place it in your windows system32 folder (C:\Windows\System32) and replace the old one. Let me know whether this fixes this issue.
