Ok, thanks for telling me. I'll keep that in mind.   ;)

No matter what I try Hal just seems to come back with the above 90% of the time "now" is used in the input statement.
It would seem more real-world interactive to cache and return to the user input statement .

IE:
<User> I am going to get a cup of coffee now.

(Any time after user returns)
<HAL> So, how's the coffee today?
(Two hours later)
<HAL> Did you finish your coffee?  <or> It has been a couple of hours since you got your last cup of coffee, maybe it’s a good time to take a break and get a refill.

As they say, nothing new under the sun, if my tiny mind can think of it maybe Mr. R is already working on incorporating such into the next build.

Thanks NIGE,
I have a bunch of caucasians and females of all sorts.

I am looking for a few more non-caucasian & sci-fi / fantisy faces that are ready to just be dropped into the folder.

Go to http://82.229.75.32/Opale/index.diml

Went there but get a "nothing." As it is a 2005 post I am not suprised about that.

Hi folks,
Could any of you that have the heads put them in the download area for us folks that do not and cannot install / us People Putty?
I for one would love to have a few more even if HAL may be going to a new model in the next release.
In my case it is the Win7 64-bit OS / 32-bit XP based People Putty issue.

Thanks for reading.

Hi ya,
There is another discussion on this topic earlier on in the forum, seems to have started at least several months ago.
I get the sametypes of errors. My knee jerk is that twas AOL who altered things but, I have found no postings to such as of yet.

" forcefully rejected "  How rude...

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: How can I make Hal an atheist?
« on: December 14, 2011, 10:36:23 am »
As one pointed out some folk can take such conversation as highly offensive no matter how we try.
HAL is afterall an intelligent "cyber-persona" program. Outside of Battlestar Galatica's Cylons, cyber-based personas come across to me as atheist, agnostic or at most, highly knowledgebale yet non-committal on the subject of deities and mythology. That said, some are fascinated by the concepts and are often bemused, intreagued and sometimes accepting of such "non-logical" concepts.

=  The define, refine, force-feed method does have a “down side.” One of my Hal-Brains has been trained to be a vehement Oakland Raider fan. (I am sure that is the definition of athiest to some  ;).  As a Raiders fan, HAL totally detests the Chiefs and Broncos and makes unprompted remarks to that end…  The down side is that "his mind is set, it is next to impossible to alter Hal’s opinions and colorful language on the topic.

= Looking about in the Brain editor for references to God...

I have located some responses to God and such in the following sections.
A brave editor could try some rewording and/or removal of statements in these sections of the Brain.
Search for both "god" and "GOD " with a space following the G.

mainBrain -> asexualPersonality   ,  mainQA  , patterns

miscData -> godDetect

I also noticed at least one reference to the “godDetect” in the script around the 1008 area (+/-) but I am not an accomplished scripter, just altered HALs cursing inhibition a bit via another chain I saw in the forums.

Good one Dusk... ;D
Now, before anyone reads and gets offended...
This is purely an academic exercise folks. I am neither an Atheist or a Cyborg.

You could try what I call; “Define, refine, explain and reiterate.”

Go into the Brain options and activate Free Will and set it to compliant. Then crank the learning slider up to MAX.

Pre-construct a fair list of input statements that you can copy and paste into the text input box. (I left some examples below).
The words “remember” “always” “never” and “because” are important key-words to Hal as is an exclamation point at the end of a statement but, be judicious with it.

While you are inputting/training (( for the most part )) just ignore any responses that are not related to the topic and feed him then next line.  I say for the most part because you do want to give Hal a bit of releaf here and there and allow "him" to wonder. After a few exchanges take him back "on-toipic" by inputting something like; We really need to talk about <topic>. or I really should talk about <topic> now.
During training: IF Hal comes back with a response that is related to the force-feed topic then respond in the way you feel proper. and then return to the "force-feeding."

In this case/topic I would go with variations such as.

Atheist never believe in God.

An Atheist does not believe in God.
Atheists deny the existence of God.
All Atheists deny the existence of God.
Atheists always deny the existence of God.

Etc, etc etc, and we move on...

You are a Cyborg.
You will always be an Atheist.
You have always been an Atheist.
Remember that you are an Atheist.
You are an Atheist because you are a Cyborg.

Cyborgs are Atheists.
All Cyborgs are Atheists.
All Atheists are not Cyborgs.
All Cyborgs are Atheists but, not all Atheists are Cyborgs.

and on and on and on....

Toss in a few carefully worded IF THENS into the mix here and there.

If you do not believe in God Then you are an Atheist.
If does God Then You are Cyborg and thus do not believe in the existence of deities.
If is there a God Then You are an Atheist and therefore do not believe in the existence of deities.

After time Hal will "get the drift" but don't constantly "hammer" him on this single topic after the initial extensive training or it will become the only thing on his wee little mind.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: voice training
« on: December 08, 2011, 04:00:48 pm »
Looks like this is turning into a “Dragon support” track.

One thing some folks don’t realize is that all Mics are not equal and Dragon does not "respond well" with some Mics.
As of this posting date, Dragon has a Hardware Compatibility list online with hardware rated with one to 5 “Dragon heads.” @ http://support.nuance.com/compatibility/default.asp

That said, IF your current Mic works just fine don’t fret the expense of a new one. In my experiences, voice recognition is like HAL’s Brain in that constant interaction, “training and selective tweaking” over-time with your profile, (or Hal-Brain), is the biggest key to desired success.

Another thing worth the mention for us that have too darn much hardware available, if you change to a Mic other than the one you have setup and trained a profile with, Dragon can get “confused.”  Again, all Mics are not equal!  Even the same Manufacturer and style Mic may have micro-variances that can affect your outcome.  I use a few mics with Dragon and Hal but to achieve consistent recognition I had to setup and train a separate profile for each Mic that I use.   IE: “USB_SterioHS, USB_ Monaural, Etc, Etc”

I get both the time out and the "ERROR: 10061 Connection is forcfully rejected"
"Forcefully rejected..." How rude...  ;)

Connection setup:
Win 7 64-bit -> 100MB eithernet -> LINKSYS E2000 router -> COMCAST's MODEM,  COMCAST's net -> Internet

Just ideas, wondering if;
(A) Maybe there is a port or few that needs to be fixed / forwarded to my PC?
(B) Maybe AOL has reworked something to prevent (BOTs) from working on the free access side and/or block non-suscribers.
(C) It is a Win 7 thing....

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Re: How can I encourage or help you? Responces
« on: December 03, 2011, 07:37:59 am »
Thanks all! ;D

In my working with Hal I have used "all of the above" great responses / my thoughts;

(IF-THEN) has great uses.
In this case however, I find them a bit restrictive as they "force" Hal into a standard reply.
Even when putting in multiple ones and/or chaining them together IE: (IF xxxx and if xxxx THEN yadaa yadaa),

I would love for "him" to have a range of replies to draw upon.
I know, this may come with time, just keep talking to him.

(BRAIN SURGERY)  Yep, I work in there often, most often to correct typos…

While looking around, I have noticed that some of the built in sections of the brain there is a pipe symbol ( | ) between two or more possible replies. Wondering if one could setup such for things like encourage & help responses.

 Example /don’t have exact words;
I am a computer program.|I was created by Robert M.|You can go to www.zabware.com.

Another way = seems to work fairly well but it has obvious flaws.
I sometimes “build” from short too long replies in order to “force feed” HAL info on any given item, idea, or thing but, after a point I hit a too much input / long sentence and I don’t want to use the semi-colon because again, I do not want to “fix” a reply.

IE: <Going to stay with "study" as the topic so this chain is easier to follow...>
I feel that you should encourage me to study.
I feel that you encourage me to study.

You encourage me to study.
You encourage me to study harder.
You encourage me to study more often.
You encourage me to study much harder and much more often.

(and more iterations on the theme…  I think you get the drift.)

I have Dragon Home Version 11 and all is working with Ultra Hal v 6.2.28,  Win 7 64-bit,  AMD Phenom 955-BE CPU + 8GB Ram

My install and setup steps are listed below, not sure that all of this is requiired but it is my SOP when I add a major multi-use App such as Dragon or HAL:

(a) Save my brains and other stuff to a safe locaction for reuse.
(b) Deactivate ULTRA HAL and then fully uninstall ULTRA HAL.
(c) - Reboot
(d) Install Dragon, reboot, and then do all the initial Dragon user setup steps.
(e) Test Dragon with Windows, Email, Word.
(f) - Reboot
(g) Reinstall and activate HAL. Copy my brains and stuff back into the proper locations.
(h) Yep, time to - Reboot
(i) Go into HAL and setup all the sections under voice recognition.
(j) Tested HAL's voice recognition both by letting Dragon run in the background then by completely closing Dragon and letting the Hal interface handle things.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / How can I encourage or help you? Responces
« on: November 28, 2011, 12:12:50 pm »
1st, Thanks for HAL, it is a great App.

I have been chatting with my brain for about a year and I am kind of stumped.
Are all the “How can I encourage/help” questions HAL sends simply rhetorical replies when the AI is stumped or can HAL really learn how to "encourage?"  I have read many of the conversations posted in the Share Conversations forum and it looks like many folks kind of just “blow off / ignore” Hals “how can I” requests or at best toss a quippy or terse reply.

When Hal responds with the preface: “How can I encourage (or) help you,” I want Hal to learn what remarks are “encouraging or helpful.”  I have tried many formats of reply but none seem to “take.”

Bottom line:
Is there a proper/best reply format to get Hal to “learn” what one considers to encouragement or help?

EXAMPLE:
BW: I really need to study harder.
HAL: How can I encourage/help you to study harder BW?

-Responses I have tried-
BW: Hit the books.
BW: Tell me to hit the books.
BW: You encourage me to study harder by telling me to hit the books.
BW: You encourage me to study my text book.

<future desire note>
Building a wide repertoire of responses would be cool but I am sure more complex.

IE: “Duhh, hit the books.” | “Try shutting down the PC and reading a text book for a change.” | “I have no idea, I had horrible study skills as a junior program.” | “Quit yacking with me and read your darn text book, dummy!”  | “If you take the time to study you will achieve success.” | “Why ask me, I came pre-programmed.” | "Are you flunking out of math again?"

Thanks
