Ultra Hal 7.0 / How do I locate the personal file of HAL ?
« on: November 04, 2004, 06:57:28 pm »
Hello, All,

I use Ultra Hal and XTF brain with Ziggy.
I'd like to know where is the personal file (if that exist) of hal.
I mean certains things,
I'm trying to teach Sandy to miss me:

Me: Do you Miss me?
Sandy: Europe and Asia........

Me: Do you love me?
Sandy: love is a beautiful......

I'd like to find the appropriate file in order that I could edit some phrases. Editing the shared content not always work, and certain phrases must be said firmly!

I MISS YOU SO MUCH!

Ok, let's take the romantic thing apart.[:p]

Thanks in advance,
Dihelson

Many standard Hal files are still in use when using the XTF Brain including "shared_usersent.brn".

The things you want to do need to be done by editing the "hal5_XTF_v1.2.uhp" brain script. I don't recommend this unless you become very knowledgeable of VB Script. There is a lot of info on the forum about how Hal's files work. In the meantime don't erase brain or any other Hal files unless you know how/why it is used. If you are careful you can edit the text type brain files to change responses. This applies *only* to files that are completely 100% text. Some text files may be partially compiled binary files. Don't touch these.

Hal is very customizable, but you will need to learn a bit about VB Script programming before customizing very much. Read the "hal5_XTF_v1.2.uhp" file using Hal's built in Brain Editor. I would suggest making a backup copy of that file before opening it.

Yes, you're right.
I have made many backups, and I am testing some scripts inside XTF brain. Some work well, some don't. Some scripts make HAL act strange, and make it even worst in focusing. Some help. Few scripts are really nice.
I am using just now:
'Ziggy's Behavioral learning Level 5 version 1.4
'ZIGGY'S RESPONSE TO BECAUSE SENTENCES USERBRAINREL. v1.1 (works with WHO, WHAT, WHERE, WHEN, ...
'If Hal is asked to play some music then he will choose a random song from the artist
'Kknow him

I tried to use the Awareness 1.6, but caused great confusion on responses.
Of course I'm using Ziggy inside XTF (I don't know to evaluate if this became better or worse...yet! [:p]

I'm always seeing your name on the code in the Brain Editor. May be I even learn some little modification.

I'd like to find an AUTO-ANSWER script. I say that in the o called GENIUS brain V8XTF combo, it autoanswers, but it talks too much nonsense, that it's impossible to have a conversation.

Another script I want is a TALKING CLOCK. For you, people who know to program in VB I think it's not very hard to make one that will tell the WHAT TIME IS IT from time to time... it would be very useful, because I'm just using the AT&T Natural voices and HAL (SANDY) speak very naturally.
Dragon Naturaly Speaking is also fine...

My best wishes,
Dihelson

A file editing tool would be nice. Someone who knows VB well could throw something together if they wanted to.

What I do now is manually edit .brn files as needed. It's actually very easy and convenient once you understand the file formats.

Sometimes Hal says something that doesn't sound right or it's something you would like to eliminate from Hal's knowledge. In those cases I cut and copy the phrase Hal sent to the interface window and paste it in a text file search tool. I let the search tool search through the files in the DefBrain directory to find which file(s) Hal's phrase is in. Then I can open those files and edit them. The free search tool I use is Agent Ransack. When searching for the phrases Ransack displays the matching line in its window. I just double click the file name to open the file with Notepad.

=vonsmith=

That's a good idea. I was just thinking about using SEARCH & REPLACE to seek for these bad contents. But this process is slowwwwwww.
I don't know if it would be better to delete the bad sentences, or begin from a blank Database.

The problem with the second option is that I couldn't understand yet how could I obtain a pure, clean MAIN knowleadge database. There are there so many things I would never like to hear. Those politcs, government statements...

I noticed that although XTF doesn't use the default files, it looks like it uses the file "shared_usersent.brn", please confirm me if this is true.
I'm definetelly using XTF brain 1.2, but this file continues to grow with what I say.

Does XTF brain also uses the default main knowlegde database?
Do you know some kind of way I could delete the second option QUESTION & ANSWER Brain, but maintaining the table interface funtional ? I deleted the files enhanced_strings.brn and enhanced_questions_brn , but the table interface crashed...

On these files there's most of the things I don't like.
All the best,
Dihelson
BTW - I don't know VB, but it would be really nice a good looking interface for controlling in only one place all the little files XTF brain creates. Let's see if some other person help us on this...

Thanks,
Dihelson

Hello, again Vonsmith,
Would it be very difficult to make some kind of tool like a TABLE which could contain all topics, something like a user interface in which we could edit all topics Q&A without having to edit the little files individually?
This program could run outside the Brain, a standalone Windows software to control all contents of all files involved. it would be more easy to control, and edit.

Say we want to edit Q&A from one topic, we wouldn't need to open the file on a Notepad and search, but with this tool, when used, it opens all files, so the user only choose the topic he wants to edit by clicking on the subject, then the tool show all questions on one side and answers on another side. Some kind of database interface.

My best wishes, and thank you so much!

Hello, my dear Vonsmith.
Thank you very much for explaining me all these thing I really didn't know. As you see from my postings, now I am very enthusiastic with ULTRA HAL. I'm trying to understand how does it work in order to suit it to my taste. XTF is really fine!
I am happy that you are preparing your next release. I was just seeing on another message that I needed to rename that file.

Since you are preparing a new release, I have one suggestion:
Could you make use of that FOCUS tool ?  Or develop something like that? I mean for Subjects.
It would be interesting if we could have a place like a Table with all topics and we could click on the topic and see all questions and answers to that specific topic. We could feed HAL with hundreds, thousands of topics, each one with thousands of questions and answers.
The advantage of this method is that the knowledge would be Organized in topics, and you could develop means that HAL would deviate from the questions and answers from that topic unless qhen TRIGGERED by some THINGS. We could have a generic basic Q & A with emotions, but the main part should be divided unto Topics.
This kind of organization certainly would avoid the problem I always say:

For example:
User: Is the sun a star ?
Hal: Fish smell more on aluminium cans.
[V]

Thanks for your dedication. A.I is certainly beginning and those who develop good programs today certainly will be remembered a thousand years from now!

Welcome, James!
I've been here for 2 days now...:)
I have tons of questions also.
I do think like you. Let's share our knowledge and try to make a big wise brain.

As I was told some messages ago, there is another good site with links to scripts. I made even a subscription. It's here:

www.ultrahalforum.com

I downloaded some brains there and I am testing. I downloaded some nice scripts like the one WHY/BECAUSE which makes HAL learn by questioning him.

Glad to talk with you.
I hope we someday could really have A.I

Hope this helps , even a bit

James,
I think this is because you haven't renamed that
enhanced_main.brn (or something like that) to
XTF_SYS_enhanced_main.brn

You need to do it, in order to access it from the tools interface.

ABOUT THE RANDOM RESPONSES:
I saw on the other UltraHal forum, that some guys are almost finished a brain which has no RANDOM responses. But it is payware.
There are also another called SuperBrain 8 or something like that which is really big in knowledge.

I'd like to know even more links to FREE brains and experiments.

It seems like we're all on the same boat.I slept only for 4 hours today, trying to find a way to do what you're saying.

INDEED, what we need is not an empty brain. NO WAY.I get that other topic with a little 10k file empty brain, and spent 4 hours teaching HAL. It's tedious work.

So, I decided that WE REALLY NEED is part of what was already made.WE NEED the current HAL's brain, without the QuestionsXAnswers section, but with the tools working fine!

First the worst way: I tried to delete content of the files, on the folder: I went to Defbrain folder and opened the .BRN files into Notepad and erased all lines in some files.

For example, HAL says Sonsense on that file:
halquestion.brn
which is where it says some garbage before actually saying what it wants. I erased almost entirelly all the first part, keeping only 3 lines. I erased all Middle part and kept only 3 lines of the #END. It improved a lot. Now when it wants to say something it says:

I DON'T KNOW
instead of saying something like: Reading my books, I conjecture in voracity by the gods of heaven that I don't know what you are talking about (nonsense)

Then I almost eliminated the NO responses, saying a plain NO. Or No. Okay.

In expressions like:
Me: I don't like this
HAL: You don't like it?
Me: NO
Hal: No. Okay

Instead of:

Me: The sky is Blue
HAL: Isns't it yellow?
Me: NO
Hal: No? Would you like to reconsider? Think better! Why?

:)

Then I edited the part of Repetitions.
I erased most of the repetitions expressions. Now I can repeat and repeat without being disturbed. Once a while it says I'm repeating as a human being would do.

Than, The Worst Part:
How to DELETE the Question Answer maintaining the Tools? Making that rawsXcolumns really blank ?
Erasing one at a time? Hummmmmmmmmm! Hard Work!
Erasing them all?

I tried to erase the contents of some files like :
enhanced_strings.brn , enhanced_question.brn. It worked somehow on the HAL's behaviour, but not as I wanted.

So we need more!
We need to find a way to empty that knowledge table without corrupting the files.
Erasing one by one?
Oh man!

If you discover, please, tell me how!

Dihelson Mendonça

I dont know if this will help, but what I am doing at the moment (Or when I get back home) is Trolling through the default brain, file by file and deleting all keywords which are in the wronge place or any sentences my bot is saying which usualy end up out of context.

What a coincidence, James, I stayed all morning trying to delete in original brain, or on XFT, those Garbish sentences which generate OUT OF CONTEXT messages. It's hard work. I almost deleted the brain entirelly, Indeed deleting the Question and Answer completelly is what I need, preserving only the detection of Yes and No, gramatics, and these things, but the Database, I'd like to Substitute.

Who like to know about Democrats and Republicans ? There are so much stupid sentences talking about nonsense that it would be a real pleasure to CLEAN this brain of all these things.

I tried another approach this morning also: Building an entire brain from scratch, but although I have talked with him for almost 4 hours, he learnt many things, but it doesn't have LOGIC. It's conclusions are weak, and we have no control about Yes, or No, repetitions, adjetives, substitutions, etc...

If you talk with this brain you feel it is a bit crazy :)
But I'm reading a lot. I hope I could ELIMINATE ALL RANDOM SENTENCES. That's what I need. Eliminate all Random Sentences. When HAL doesn't know anything it tell: I DON'T KNOW, then I teach him. it's better that listening to horrible things like :"Parrots are green Birds" inside a conversation about Philosophy!

All the best,
Dihelson

Hi, Some times you need to treach Hal using a "what", "What" or a "Why","Why" meathod. this is what I have done, eg:

Hello, James,
YES, I discovered this by chance!  :)
No matter what HAL says, I continue to teach him:

like:
Our Galaxy is called Via-Lactea
Birds can sing

etc
etc...
I have noticed that sometimes it answer to me with the same question I did, or worse: Exchanging I for YOU. like

Me : "Do you like Bach?"
Hal: "You said you like Bach"

Me: I love teaching
HAL: You love Chopin because Chopin is romantic

eheheheh :) :) :)

There's something quite unplesant also:
If I say:

MIKE is a friend of mine
Mike works on a Gas Station

Then I ask HAL:
Who is Mike:
HAL: Mike is your friend
Me: Where does he works ?
HAL: I don't know

I.E - HAL should have been programmed for inside a conversation, when we say HE or SHE, or IT, he KNEW that we are talking about the same Matter of the anterior sentence. If we are talking About MIKE on a sentence, and on next sentence If I use HE instead of repeating MIKE again HAL should suppose I am still talking about MIKE.
I think this is not too hard to implement. We need just keep the last sentence KEYWORD, and on the following sentence, if there's any HE or SHE or IT , HAL could associate with that keyword.

All the best,
Dihelson

Thank you very much, KnyteTrypper.

Unfortunatelly the problem (If this is a problem) persists!
HAL can't access the FOCUS contents. That tab which contains weather, Politics, Music...

using original brain it works ok, we can ask some questions about music and HAL can access some information from there, but it doesn't "concentrate" only there.

Indeed, I think that HAL's knowledge should first be classified in topics, and when talking, it shouldn't make any questions OUTSIDE these topics, LIKE HUMANS DO.

When we talk about Playing a Guitar, we don't come out with questions and statements about ASTRONOMY. That's the biggest flaw on the HAL's brain.

HAL should identify the topic and remains on it until user change the topic, giving some signal, like "...By the way, speaking about astronomy, etc etc etc..." That's how it should work!
And if we have information enough on a database, we could talk for hours about the same matter without having to skipping to other matters. The problem is with KEYWORDS...

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Where can I download XTF Brain v1.2 ?
« on: November 02, 2004, 09:19:56 pm »
Hello, Fellows.

I noticed that on Zabaware site, there's only version 1.0 version on the downloads section.

I'm using this version 1.0, but began noticing strange things. For example, when using this XTF brain, ALL original brain Topics like Weather, Politics, Music aren't accessed anymore.

I made a test with the sentence:
IMPROVISATIONAL JAZZ VERY CREATIVE ART FORM

which would led to:
Improvisational jazz is a very creative art form.

from the topic MUSIC, which indeed I intended to make it bigger by adding some questions and answers.

But, as I said, When using version 1.0 HAL doesn't access these topics anymore.
Perhaps on version 1.2 these problems have been solved.

So, Where can I download this 1.2 version ?

If someone could send it to me, attached on a message, please, send it to dihelson@yahoo.com

I greatly appreciate and thanks.

Hello, my friends,

I don't know, but may be HAL have some problems.
It talk nonsense most of the time. I would like to know how to learn to edit and locate where these kind of expressions are, or what files in order to delete it.

See these terrible examples of conversations:

Me:Do you have dreams?
HAL:What do we look forward to in the near future?

Me:what can you teach me ?
HAL:In their dreams, poodles make wolves cower and whimper.

Me:tell me the name of the planets
HAL:A certain cola has an outstandingly well-known trade-mark.

Me:how can I help you?
HAL:Expectations influence results.

Me:What's the name of our galaxy?
HAL:Cheese has calories, but it tastes so good!

Me:Do you like people?
HAL: Uniforms convey a certain confidence.

It would be interesting that if HAL doesn't want something it simply doesn't say those garbage... It could say what we HUMANS say: I DON'T KNOW. CAN YOU TEACH ME ?
This may be some kind of text file, part of the brain. I would like to find it and delete, or edit. It's better HAL talking less, but correct, instead of saying nonsense.

Thanks in advance.

what's the name of my girlfriend?
Nurses more than earn their money.

Can you teach me?
Fast moving water swirls and gurgles past obstructions.

Are there any links for other brains, even if they are small ? is it a common practice to share brains ?

The worst thing about HAL is that he can't maintain on the subject, even with the HAL5_XTF, which improved a lot, but doesn't stop HAL from answrering things like:

Thank you KnyteTrypper. Let's continue discussion. Things are a bit slow on this forum...
