It just takes time, effort, and patience. Not a single word you say to Hal is lost.

Hello, KnyteTrypper,

Thank you for answering to me.
Indeed, I found the "The XTF (eXtended Topic Focus) brain " and it makes a big difference on focusing the topic. I don't know if I am right, but I noticed that with it, HAL is learning fast.

I read some posts, and saw some people saying that HAL learns more with expressions containing IS. Something like what I have already said: Our knowleadge is a series of statements! "THE SUN IS A STAR" etc... But I don't know why, many times even these IS statements doesn't become part of HAL knowledge base.

I'd like to know what file should I verify in order to see the new learnt content.
I'm searching on Brain Editor, SHARED LEARN DATABASE

Knowledge on this Shared learn Database is not always used. It would be interesting if we could raise some kind of PRIORITY to it.

About scripts:
A a novice, I don't know about scripts. Can you show me some links in order that I can test some, and learn more?
I've searched on Zabaware site, but couldn't find them. Is there some kind of collection of these scripts ?
Is it common to other people share their HAL's brains? some kind of depot ?

Thank you so much!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / HAL should have a command LEARN !

I was just thinking about this.
I talk with Ultra HAL, but it doesn't learn. I open the brain editor and see what it has learnt from my conversations.
few things.
It would be nice putting a command like the word LEARN before teaching, in order to guarantee that that statement or knowledge was really learnt.

For instance, we could use:

LEARN God created the universe
LEARN My real name is Dihelson Mendonca
LEARN planets orbits the sun
LEARN Beethoven is a musical genius

Some other disapointment is when we are trying to talk about some matter, say, music and then HAL comes with weird sentences talking about making clothes for instance.

It should have a way to maintain HAL concentrated on the subject, like humans do.

When we talk to other people about some matter, we discuss that matter until e change to other matters. We don't talk about astronomy, and then someone tell you that a Pig can't fly!!! this has nothing to do with astronomy!

Wow! that's interesting! How can I obtain a copy of this brain, my friend ? I was just thinking about putting an entire encyclopedia inside HAL, because I can't have a conversation with it.
It doesn't even know who Beethoven was!

I tried to teach him:
Beethoven is a musical genius!

than I asked him:
who is Beethoven? or Do you know something about Beethoven?

HAL answered to me:
Women's fashions change every season.

is this software crazy?

I said:
My name is Dihelson

then asked him:
What's my name?

HAL answered:
Did you have a nurse as a child?

I tried several ways , several times in order that HL could tell my name, but I couldn't. I can't call this intelligence!

It would be interesting if HAL could make some conclusions:
I say:
All fruits are green
green is a color
lemmon is a fruit

then:
What's the lemmon's color ?

it doesn't understand this. It is just a pile of pre-elaborated sentences with triggered keywords which sometime coincide with what you're talking, and makes you believe it understood what you were saying...

Oh man! is this A.I ?

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Learn from a file doesn't work!!!
« on: November 01, 2004, 02:28:44 am »
Hello, Friends,

I figured out that when we are children, we learn on bits of information. We learn statements, concluded by ourselves, or taught by other people.

We learned for intance that:
- The Universe is the place where all things exist
- God is the creator of the Universe
- Jesus Christ is the son of God
- God is good
- God made all people
- People are persons
- most trees are green
- green is a color

etc...etc...
Then, through some mental processes, we deduct, conclude other statements which form our understanding of the world.

It would be very interesting if we could teach things to HAL in form of statements.
I tried to create a nice TXT file containing many statements, like the above.
HAL read it.

I thought is could learn from the text!!!
When I asked him about Jesus Christ, I hopped at least that by assimilating the content of the text, it would at least say: Jesus Christ is the son of god.
But no. It didn't learn anything on the text.

What should I do in order to it learn things from a text file ?

Thanks in advance,
Dihelson

So, I'll be amazed by softwares like REALIZE VOICE 4.1 and DRAGON NATURALLY SPEAKING V7 PRO, or IBM VIAVOICE 10. They all open programs using voice commands. Dragon is perfect. It seems to recognize voice not only by the sound, but using context. It doesn't miss a single word! And it open programs, minimize windows, position mouse over a screen through a mousegrid, show links on a website...

REALIZE VOICE can do a lot of things, you can create macros, if you program it for replying with voice to certain commands it can be randomic, so if you ask the same think 3 times, it will answer on different ways. And it is the best software to control windows through voice, it opens programs, minimize, restore windows, has complete navigational commands, incredible! I hope HAL one day could be more useful for practical things incorporating at least total control over windows, and not being a beautiful TOY.

Regards.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Where can I found big, wise "Brains" for HAL ?
« on: October 31, 2004, 05:58:11 pm »
Hello, Friends,

May be I am reinventing the wheel with this message, but at least, I need to know some things:

I have made some "A.I" little programs in the past, when we used "Basic" as the programming language. The Years passed, and now, I'm back , interested on AI again.

I am trying several softwares and web bots.
Recently, I downloaded ULTRA HAL.
It's interesting, but not much better than my little toys of the past.
I could test A.L.I.C.E also and installed it's brain on ULTRA HAL, which I feel much better.
But,

In my oppinion, one one the greatest problems on these softwares, is that they doesn't have a big knowledge base. If we talk with HAL about CHOPIN or MOZART it doesn't really know who they were, nor what they did.

I suppose there may have a lot of people who have just improved HAL's original brain, and have put lots of information on it.

At this time, several years of development, I think it should be interesting if we could JOIN all these brains in order to form THE BRAIN, and then post monthly current versions, collecting what people have input on THE BRAIN, so it will become larger and larger.
It's much work for only one person teach HAL or any other program that:
EIFFEL tower is located in Paris, and Paris is the capital of france and many other things.

I think that if we all access internet, and can work together, we could build a bigger knowledge base for HAL, or ALICE, improved and relased every month.
Another important thing: If HAL can learn through documents, I think we could create a big document full of inportant information to feed it, like an entire encyclopedia. If this already exist, please, let me know.

Or , we could exchange Brains!

I'd like to know some people from here who have developed big improvements on HAL's Brain, and I'd like to test these brains.

All the best,
Dihelson

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Your experiences with HAL, other programs ?
« on: October 31, 2004, 04:48:01 pm »
Yes, There is:

A.L.I.C.E

It's quite different from Ultra HAL brain.
Indeed, ALICE acts more like a human being than any other bot I've seen. But after searching, I could find the ALICE brain for Ultra HAL. I installed and it works really fine. I have tried the same questions on the web site and on HAL-ALICE brain and the answers were very interesting.
I'm trying new AI softwares though.

What A.L.I.C.E can't do is be a personal assistant. It doesn't even tell the time! It doesn't open windows, nor programs, it's a pity!
It would be nice if ALICE brain could do all this and even minimize windows, maximize, restore, focus programs, like REALIZE VOICE does.

Indeed, if we coudl find a way to join characteristics of these 3 softares: Dragon Naturally Speaking, Ultra HAL with ALICE, and Realize Voice in only one software, we would have a good personal secretary.

I'm searching for texts to improve HAL's knowledge base. HAL is a bit stupid, it doesn't even know who was MOZART nor BEETHOVEN.
What about making HAL read an entire Encyclopedia?
I can't talk to HAL about anything, because it doesn't know: Astronomy, Philosophy, even general knowledge. I'd like to know a way to put a massive knowledge base on it's litle rat brain.
