There is a star trek episode in which the enterprise gets caught in a time warp.  The same couple days are repeated again and again and they keep making the same mistake on how to get out of it.  But of course they can't remember what they did in the future that failed so they keep trying the same thing over again but suddenly they do come to realize they are in a cycle and for all they know, they been going around for a couple thousand years and a new struggle developes on how to send a message back to themselves that if "this effort" fails, to try "another" way.

Sorry did I miss something, DG has been fine for me though I know Mariavab was planning on doing some maintenance, so you might have caught it at a bad time - he's trying to cut graphics down a bit so people on dial up don't have such a rough ride.
