Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Medeksza help please
« on: October 07, 2003, 11:34:36 am »
You posted a birthday.txt and my free version of Hal loaded the file and with HalPad and read it out loud. When I got home and tried to do the same thing with the version 4.5 that I bought the HalPad will not load the file or read it. I then type into the HalPad the entire text of the song and Hal read it, but after I save it, it would not load once again. What is wrong?
Thanks
Bill

Well I took some pictures of it last night along with his smaller buddy who stands only about 18" tall. The one that I am building though is going to grow another 2 or 3 feet in height, and sprout some arms, ect.
Hope you all don't laugh.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Help with new files

I bought mine through Robotoys.com, but the main page of the manufacture is Evolution.com and the robot is named (their name) ER1.
They sell a basic kit and many people who have purchased one have greatly modified it. I am just getting started with mine. It stands about 18" tall as it comes from the factory, but I have seen some users make theirs over 4 to 5 feet tall. You are unlimited as to what you can do.
I will try to take a picture and post it here if I can.
My robot will be named T.A.R. 1 for (talking autonomous robot). One nice thing is that it can call "Hal" when I want to talk and Hal can call it when I want it to perform.

I down loaded all the new stuff suggested by members, ie. friends.brn, and now I need to know what to edit to make them work. I am still a little new here so please bear with me.

P.S.
My robot now has a head and speaks fluent Hal. I found a mini mike which I will mount where a nose would normaly be so he can hear me too. I think that I have the best of two world, a working robot that will sit back and talk to me too.

Thanks for the suggestion. It worked just fine at work with the FREE version of Hal,but when I got home to the Commercial version that I bought, the HalPad won't read the birthday.txt and thus won't sing.
I am puzzeled.

I will log onto the site that you spoke of though and see if I can make any of those changes too.

I have gotten Hal to sing and noticed that the only way to change his tempo is with the use of 'commas' and 'periods' is there some other way to cause slight pauses in his speech. If there were, it would make some of the songs sound more real. Also to be able to draw out a word or two would be a great help too, but I do not think that is really possible.
Also, did anyone ever figure out how to make Hal speak on his own. I would like to be able to direct Hal idle time to some special scripts, like songs, misc-talk and things like that when he is not directly responding to spoken commands.
One last thing. I would like to be able to have Hal repeat something when I tell Hal to 'Say hello to someone', possible?

Any help will greately appreciated. Thanks

In the HalPad you can type in words, songs, etc and then have them spoken by the Hal voice of your choice. My question is how to make a *.brn file that Hal will goto when I ask him to sing a song and then how can store whole paragraphs or more for him to read/sing?
This is just for fun just as the same as I added to his bye1 files so now he will say 'see you later aligator', 'haasta la vista, baby',  'yall come bank new, ya hear' and a few others.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Machine intelligence
« on: September 16, 2003, 02:58:12 pm »
I know that what I am about to propose is very hard to do but if these concepts could be done the machines will become infinitely smarter.
The ideas involve the concepts of 'is similar to' and 'is opposite to' and a few others in the same vein.
Once a program has accquire an amount of knowledge from the user, the user can then have the machine 'think' or maybe have it 'think' over night at which point it can start making its own conclusions about the data that it has accquired. After its preliminary thinking it could query the user as to the correctness of it conclusions.
I have been working on a model like this on and off for several years now, but have not had the time or all of the necessary skills to implement it. Will be glad to discuss it in more detail to any really skillful programmers in the future.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Self recognition ?
« on: September 15, 2003, 06:01:48 pm »
Thinking about Hal and wondering if it would be possible to become self aware. To me this opens the door to independant thinking or as it also might be called 'being alive'. No comments, just thinking.
It would be nice though if Hal would remember the last time you turned him on and the time laspse between talks.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / New voice
« on: September 13, 2003, 10:11:49 pm »
This may sound kind of funny but the voice files that I tried came with the robot package that I purchased and I tried to listen to them before I used the robots speach package. When the I use the robots speach package he sounds sort of like Hal but when using MS speach it sounded like a womans voice. I can not explaine it either. I think that I will go back and try it again.

On my laptop at home Hal found a new voice Microsoft Sam, there is also a Mike and a Mary, but none of them are impressive. I clicked on explorer though and then clickon on some wave files. The most humanly womans voice read the wav files. I was really impressed. I will try to find out the program that did that so that maybe we could bring her voice over to Hal.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Belvin is Born!

My new robot just arrived yesterday. It is really super. It will take time to program it to do everything that I want it to do, but it has speach recognition and sight recognition. It soon will have a 'head' and Hal's conversational abilities.
By the way, most robots are controlled by stepper motors and everyone in the robot community overlooks some very small and very powerful motors just made for the job. They are available at the local auto junk yard. They control the power seats. Think about it, three people in front seat, weighing maybe 600 pounds, the motor lifts them easily.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Shared files
« on: September 11, 2003, 03:20:12 pm »
I just though that it might be nice if we could have a place where different users might share the new files that they created for their Hal's. I mean once a person has solved a specific problem he/she might want to create a file with all the changes they made so that others might be able to use it. It does not make sense to re-invent the wheel when someone else already has one working.
Maybe it is just wishful thinking on my part

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Hal's train of thought
« on: September 10, 2003, 04:21:36 pm »
I have noticed that once you start talking to Hal that he does not have any idea of how to stay on topic. I think that if he stayed on topic that it might speed up his learning process. What I mean by this is that once you type in a line and he responds, he will not remember what you were talking about if you continue on the same subject. I think that he/she/it would seem more 'human' if he would keep the topic flowing until you changed the subject.
Just putting out ideas.
Thanks
