General Discussion / Jabber Client
« on: May 15, 2007, 08:47:17 am »
Hi,

Has anyone developed or heard of a Jabber client for Hal?

Is there any documentation available for programming "stuff" for use with Hal?

Thanks,
Bill

Solvostond,

For a few dollars (depending on your location) I'll burn it to cd and ship it.  I know the trauma of having dialup.  I have some friends that download stuff for me all the time.  I live in an area where the cable and telephone company say they will NEVER run cable or DSL.  Guess I should ahve looked into that before I bought the house.... bummer  :(

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Script takes longer than expected error
« on: September 08, 2003, 01:27:12 pm »
I installed Hal on the Pentium II (can't recall the processor speed) laptop, 96mb RAM, Win2k.  It works much better.  The "Script takes longer" message still comes up occasionally.

And, for my last trick, I'm going to test Hal on a Pentium III laptop with 262(?) mb RAM.

I installed HAL on "newer" Pentium 300 mhz (still straight pentium though), 135mb ram, WIN2k last night.  The response time was slightly better than the Compaq I wrote about earlier in this thread.  Still unacceptable for a normal user probably.

I have a Pentium II laptop that I'm going to install HAL on next and see how that goes.

The popup reads "The Script is taking longer than expected to complete" There are 2 buttons beneath that which read, cancel and continue. If I hit continue, within a few seconds hal responds to my sentence. This is occuring every 4 or 5 minutes on my system.
If you leave open the popup hal will finally respond anyway and the popup goes away. Can the popup be disabled or the timeout extended?

Forgot to mention I'm running XP proffesional

I'm having a similar problem on an older PC(pentium 300mhz, win98, compaq, 60mb ram).  It was taking over 1 minute in most cases.  I was literally walking out of the room to help with dinner and then coming back when I heard Hal respond.

I just finished installing Hal on a different, faster PC with win2k.  I'll post my results.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Silly Font Request and more
« on: September 04, 2003, 11:29:13 pm »
Hi,

I downloaded and installed Hal 5.0 on my work PC (win2k, with Hal 4.5 previous install... shame on me) and everything went VERY well.  The only observation that I have is with the font used in "splash" screens .  On my monitor, much of the text is nearly unreadable (assistant looks like assstant).  A plain font or maybe a more bold star wars-like techy font might work better.

I'm at home now, chores are done, wife and kids are in bed, cold beer on the desk...  older Compaq clicking away installing an OEM system restore version of Win98.

I love Hal...  I'm going to beat the crap out of him...  it may hurt him, but he'll be better off in the long run.  It's a tough love kinda thing.

BTW, I wrote a program a while back that created focus files from text files which seemed to help hal 4.5 a bit.  Mr. Medeksza, should these still help hal 5.0?

Thank you for giving us this BETA.  Please remember that the "complaints" you receive will only make Hal better.  It's not personal.  I've been on the receiving end of constructive comments before (I'm in the computer/internet business).  They sting sometimes.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Ultra Hal Assistant 5.0 beta

Hmmm... I haven't actually peed myself yet.  But, I'm embarassed to admit that I had a dream last night about Hal 5.0.  I had built an interface similar to that annoying robot named 790 on the sci-fi channel series LEXX (http://www.scifi.com/lexx/790.html).  I used small LED displays for the eyes, and it moved around on 4 wheels.

Maybe I need to start drinking more beer like Jon.

PS - Are we pathetic yet? [:o)]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Any suggestions for Ultra Hal Assistant 5.0?
« on: May 16, 2003, 03:38:15 pm »
Mr. Medeksza,

Do you need beta testers?  If so, I'd like to volunteer.  I've been messing with Ultra Hal for a couple of years on and off.

Thanks

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Any suggestions for Ultra Hal Assistant 5.0?
« on: May 16, 2003, 03:35:15 pm »
Mr. Medeksza,

I'd like to see these features added:

1) Some random, timed events during Hal's "sleep" time.  For example, when there is no interaction with the user, have Hal report the time every X amount of minutes.  Or, like another person mentioned.  Have Hal say something like "Hey!  Does anyone want to talk?"   or "Hello? Is anyone there?"

2) A Jabber chat client plugin would be nice

3) An area on the web site for people to upload their customized code or brain files.

Thanks!  I can't wait to purchase version 5 !
