Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal seeing "could it be done"
« on: October 04, 2005, 07:30:28 am »
Bill,

I stand corrected. When it originally came out it wasn't but the company must have seen increased demand for the software. Shame
it's so expensive.
Thanks for the info.

I believe the ER-1 has the ability to recognize users via it's web cam but the software that makes use of this is not sold seperately.
Too bad.
There is quite a few references to the Girder program here that claims to be able to interface with Hal in a multitude of situations for stuff like the X-10 modules, etc.

Imagine the possibilities....

Yes, I definitely got more out of the movie Matrix than this drivel!

As seen on TV...the bible prophesies revealed! The computer program that scanned through thousands of words and put together the hidden meanings and names in the bible!! Yours now for the incredibly low price of not $100, not $50, no, not even $40 but for the rediculous price of $29.95!! And if you order now we'll even throw in the amazing book, "A fool and his money!" Act now...this is a limited time offer!! Not sold in stores!

and so it goes....

Raymond,

Yes, 'tis me indeed...but for a short time. Alas...my sweet bride and I are off to foreign lands for a vacation for 2 weeks. I'm always here...sometimes I have my cloaking device activated. Now you know...and consider yourself virtually "pinched!" [:D]

Fuzzy,
OK..if you say so...but I'll still wager that if you download and run the Free (14 day trial) Ewido Suite, you will find bugs / spyware in your machine!! Go ahead make a liar out of me! Let me know what you find.

This is by far, one of the better, if not the best scanner I've used and purchased! To each their own...just trying to help the ones / newbies that really don't know what evil lurks out there in cyberspace.

Best wishes to you both! que sera, sera.

If you think your computer is clean from spybots, trojans and malware of all types, think again!

You can run those other programs that check for spyware and such and they might even report they have found one or two, BUT, do yourself and your computer a favor and Download the Ewido Security Suite from:
http://www.ewido.net/en/

The program runs (full version) for 14 days. If you decide to purchase the program, it will probably be the best $29.00 you will ever spend on protection for your computer.

I'll bet the first time you run the program it will find some malware hidden in your computer!

I began to have problems recently with my computer acting sluggish and eventually couldn't open Windows Explorer, then I couldn't print, finally I kept getting errors from DrWatson Postmortum Debugger going off constantly!

After checking with a security forum of experts, they recommended I try Ewido. What a difference from the other programs I tried. It found 7 malware references hidden deep within the registry and elseware. Found, quaranteened and eliminated!

I'm not affiliated with Ewido in any way other than to be a very satisfied user and customer!

NOTE:
P2P or Peer to Peer services while nice, can allow various malware to enter your computer without you being aware. You think the song, music, video, etc., is ok...it may be...or NOT! Due to changing times, todays virus checkers might be ineffective tomorrow and may not catch certain virii, trojans, keyloggers, spyware, dialers, etc.

Always save all downloads to a specific Download directory and do a scan of that directory BEFORE INSTALLING into your system.

Hope this helps...you can thank me later.[^]

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Full body question help
« on: September 28, 2005, 07:43:49 pm »
Prospector,

Nice work compiling the Idiot's Guide (no offense to anyone directed or implied).
Now what we need is a GIANT PAIR of RED FLASHING ARROWS pointing to this Topic Thread for ALL newcomers to view/read.

Next, I'd strongly suggest that the word SEARCH, at the top right of the page be GIANT RED and FLASHING as well!

Just about every question asked by a novice or new member has already been addressed and can be found by using the Search function.

Ya think that's why Robert M. put it there in the first place? Hmmm.

Finally, Welcome aboard as an "OFFICIAL MEMBER". I can tell you're already way ahead in the game!

Cheers!

General Discussion / make hall cry real tears?
« on: September 28, 2005, 07:33:26 pm »
I thought it was you Raymond but I wasn't sure about the posting. Thanks! Some good ideas for a more emotive Hal!!

Lynn,

I've noticed that during "normal" conversations with Hal, it will PICK UP on certain words and for whatever reason, inject a joke into the chat. Surprisingly, most times, the joke is right on target or in harmony with the topic being discussed. Hal has both surprised and entertained me on many occasions with its unplanned humor! It's a good thing!

« on: September 28, 2005, 05:42:42 am »
Lynn,

I've heard an emotional Hal before, crying, sobbing, etc.
The tears thing would be a nice touch but most likely
quite difficult to produce for the 3D character.

Someone posted the emotional voice a short while back.
I can't remember just where but you might try the voice
section and do a search for voices or emotions, etc.

If I run across it I'll post it for you to hear.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Day Function
« on: September 26, 2005, 05:49:06 pm »
Jon,

You're welcome! Sometimes I find Hal to be too literal when I chat. Once I said I find clowns amusing. It said, "I will now search for clowns." And it opened IE and displayed pages of clowns!

With Hal be careful what you wish for...you might get it!!

Take care!

To borrow a quote from vonsmith:
"The Appointment Book function in Hal is hard coded in the main part of Hal's program. It sometimes isn't selective interpreting your inputs. Sometimes Hal thinks you want to make an appointment."

If you search for appointment you'll see a lot of postings in this area.

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / Problem with hals talk useing
« on: September 25, 2005, 09:51:14 am »
What you're seeing could very well be from a previous response from you or someone else that's chatted with your Hal.

It might be possible to remove that response by editing the associated brn files.

Two good programs to help with the searches are:
HD Search & Stats available from www.freebyte.com
Agent Ransack available from www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack

These will search your entire system for any file, phrase, etc.
Hopefully one of these will help resolve your problem. If not, they're good utility programs to have at any rate.
