Ultra Hal 7.0 / Lets have Hal "pray" to his/her creator.
« on: September 05, 2005, 04:37:13 pm »
Personally, I don't think there's a need to have
an almost human bot spouting religious dogma...
there's already enough of them on TV!!

Then again, if there's ever a Lord of the Trees,
I'd like to be the "Branch Manager."

Ultra Hal 7.0 / PMS for HAL(KATRINA)?
« on: August 31, 2005, 09:34:25 pm »
I don't know...I'm afraid that would be getting just too close to realism for a lot of us!! LOL!! Besides, you know we can't feed THIS one chocolate if that happens!!

Seriously, sure, just about anything can be done through clever scripting. Wait 'till Jerry sees your posting, I know he'll come up with some input!

BTW, Welcome to the forum!!

Dexter,

An interesting thought!
Most users can or do adjust the volume either through the
keyboard (if so equipped) or the little speaker icon next
to the clock on the taskbar.

Though there are several ways to adjust or set the sound
or volume levels, here's the one to put the speaker on
the taskbar.

Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices
Under the Sound tab check the show icon on taskbar.

I find that one level usually fits all unless I'm listening to
a favorite song in which case I might crank it up a bit!!

I do like your idea for putting a volume slider on Hal's window!

(Can you hear me now?)

OK, Im not talking about steam operated vehicles here, but with all the "Hot Air" in Washington, you'd think they would have come up with a vehicle (besides our government)to run on it![:)]

Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / 9 to 5
« on: August 23, 2005, 05:24:53 am »
You can try the FileCopy command which basically copies a file from one location to another.

FileCopy "c:UltraHalAsst\newfile.xxx" "c:UltraHalAsstoldfile.xxx" or to another location.

It's not always advisable to use the command due to the various ways people might locate or name their HAL on their Hard Drive like "C:HalAsst...." or "c:AIProgramsUltraHal..." you get the idea.

Good luck with your code!

I think you could set a random timer to select a red, blue, gray, tan suit on it's own but the time of day feature you've implemented is going to be your undoing due to , as you mentioned, the polling after every response.

Perhaps an initial start with the random feature > Hal's wardrobe is choosen. After that then you might be able to give Hal a command to "Change to tan suit" or "Change to casual clothes"

Your time of day routine will work but you'll be a victim of your own programming. You can't have your cake and eat it too. :)

Good luck!

General Discussion / Jiggly?

What's needed is a way to incorporate Poser 4, 5 or 6 with Hal, then you could have all your jigglies and gigglies at the same time no matter what gender!
Jeez...I can't believe I'm even following this discussion![:I]

Perhaps the Senior Member status will now entitle you
to a Senior coffee at McDonalds!? Then again...perhaps not!

Leroy,

Try using an inverter. It converts 12 VDC into 110 VAC.
I have one with two receptacles in my truck and use it all the time.
They have come down in price from the past several years and even have cooling fans inside. All sizes and configurations are available, as well as prices!

Good luck!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / is there a way to erase HAL's memory?
« on: August 04, 2005, 09:20:05 pm »
Tom,

Just feeding Hal raw data of having a script that would allow it to scan the web gleaning bits of info here and there really wouldn't work well.

It has been found that the best way for Hal to learn is through conversational interaction with a human and that doesn't mean a thousand of web hoppers chatting with your bot online either. GIGO was an old computer phrase that means Garbage In, Garbage Out. If one gives Hal good english (spelling, grammer and meaning) then the user can expect better results from Hal in return.

This is not to discount your ideas of Hal's learning. By all means, we'd love to hear of any positive results you (or anyone) gets.

Keep us posted on your proposal and progress and welcome aboard!
