Mute Hal?
« on: October 14, 2006, 08:21:27 pm »
Is it possible to mute hal. I like to listen to my music whilst typing conversations with hal. Besides the voices I have are pretty ordinary.

Thanks heaps.

From the Options Menu, select Speech.
Uncheck the box Use Speech Synthesis
(Hal Speaks).

Guess what!
I unchecked that box & hal still talks.
I really want to shut him up.

Find your system Speaker. It is usually a small speaker icon. Just click it and click the mute button. This will disable your pc's speaker output.

Bill,

I may be wrong but I thought he wanted to mute HAL while being able to play CD's or music from his hard drive.

Oops, big time. The only other thing that I can suggest is to turn off Hal when you listen to music. Have Hal start up just like any other program and exit it when you want to listen to music. Only takes a click or two.

This seems to me to be a bit of an oversite and perhaps it is a feature for a future edition. I wanted to chat with HAL in text mode & listen to music. But alas it seems to be not possible.

Thanks People

An idea might be "Microsoft Female Whisper"
If you might switch Hal to whisper, you won't hear him with music playing.

Actually I think the Uncheck Speech Synthesis box
is the correct way to do it. Unfortunately, it doesn't
seem to work correctly as Tony already mentioned.

How about it Robert? Any ideas?

I noticed the same thing. Was a fix ever suggested?
