It's not really possible in a practical sense.

Hal's core programming is in English and while you might
be able to teach it some Spanish words and hopefully it
might get the grasp of it, I really doubt if it would work
properly.

Spanish also places the noun before the adjective in most
cases. like casa blanca whereas we call it white house.

There are several bots on the net that might better serve
your purpose and you can certainly give Hal a try. I just
think you're liable to experience more frustration than
joy.

Either way, best of luck!

i wonder about other languages art, i know liquendo i think speaks french and if a person used voice recognition how hal would do that way.
i guess with some languages it is about how the nouns etc. is used in the language, but just a thought.
( and yes i know this question was about spanish but just wondered about the french etc. language and how it might play out(learn) .

to complete this project there are a few components required....

1. Question and Answer file - English phrases one side / Spanish equivalent another.....
2. Complete Spanish Question and answer file - Spanish Questions, Spanish Answers
3. Spanish Wordlist / English wordlist
4. Spanish Wordnet (EURO) lex
And a Few Topic TABLES,
HAPPY,SAD,ANGRY,SURPISED,SWEAR,HELLO,GOODBYE,YES,NO.

With these i could build a Spanish speaking AI, IN HAL! "tourist"

If you have these bits i would be willing to work on it... FOR ANY LANGUAGE!!!

Lonnie,

My point was that as stands, NO, Hal does not and cannot do English conversation well. At least it can't
without some serious reverse engineering and fidgeting. It is a native English bot.

Regarding your French (and other) TTS voices, there are lots of other chatbots available in a variety
of languages. The natural sounding voice would sound more...um...natural based on the native
language of that bot.

NeoSpeech, Ivona, Cepstral, Cereproc, Loquendo and others have a variety TTS voices. Sort of something for everyone.

Some of these "plugins" are already in the forum, but they are incomplete art... Its not that its not in hal.... In other versions of hal these plugins "WORKED" at gradually translating the brain.
But often what happens is that people don't want to RE-SHARE the files....
Lots of French guys on the forum but none are willing to SEND BACK these files!!! we build a plugin but there is no co-operation....
So i can see why you are downhearted ART!

Leroy,

I'm not downhearted. I'm an American and I speak English as my primary language.
HAL was written as and has always been purported as an English speaking bot.

English as in our American English not your European English.

This has been mentioned from Robert Medeksza from the beginning. If he wanted
HAL to be a bilingual bot, I'm sure he would have come up with a way to do so.

If reverse engineering of HAL by others will give them the satisfaction of having a
bilingual bot, then so be it. It's quite a compliment that Hal is good enough to
consider modifying compared to the variety of non-English bot from which to choose.

Downhearted my friend...naw...only downhearted because I can't retire yet!  ::) ;)

All the best!

LOL.

I Used the HAL to Teach me how to PROGRAM VB. ANd now I have "Reverse Engineered" Used hal to compliment my program... Although its just for ME LOL... Its Still A HAL PLUGIN/CONSUMER..... i have quite a lot of translated files but Unless i need to talk to hal in another  language that project is way DOWN the list. But Im always interested in new developments and ideas "I KNOW ROBERTS HAL" is WAY DIFFERENT TO OURS. And its hard to incorporate everything into a release "or even want to". HAL is more a FOUNDATION to BUILD a PLATFORM WITH. IT can be a plugin or a FULL APP!

Thats why i will always be here ... learning and contributing when im not downhearted !

Leroy,

I've never known you to be downhearted in all the years we've been coming here.

Upset perhaps a time or two but not downhearted.

Besides, we're all such a wonderful family of misfits!!  ;D ::)

Keep the faith!!!
