Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / inquiry and help

There is actually two parts to your question, ie "open email on voice command, or write from a verbal instruction", which need to be addressed seperately.

Voice command software is actually pretty easy, Ultra Hal can easily fufill that need in the "paid version", with appropriate scripts and things to run other programs.  However, it cannot control those other programs, which is a big limitation, nor can you dictate (write) into other programs.

The second part, voice dictation, is a bit more complicated, and requires a dedicated software package for resonable accuracy, something like Dragon Naturally Speaking 8.  Having actually used the software, I can say that with training, it can indeed get to a very high level of accuracy.  It also incudes a text to speech engine to read stuff out.  For your daughter, I would recommend a package like that.  Ultra Hal, good as it as, is an assistant, not a PC control system, at least, not yet.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Halo Charecter models for hal.

As far as I can tell, this is not a simple thing.  Haptek apparently have some tools for converting from various standard 3d file formats (such as Maya, 3D Studio Max, Milkshape) into Haptek formatted files.  This is part of the collection of tools at haptek.com, but you would need to purchase them from Haptek to make it work, as they offer a contact link, but no demo downloads that I can see.

If you can get the Halo character model in one of these standard formats, then it might be possible, but will probably require quite a bit of work, and may require purchasing tools from Haptek.  I suspect that the Halo characters are probably not in a standard format anyway, most game companies create their own formats for storing data specific to their games.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Can't install

I can definitely confirm that Hal runs quite happily with SP2, I have been running Trial version of Hal for about two weeks with no probs.  It must be a conflict with another program, or perhaps out dated drivers for your computer, make sure you have the latest video card and sound drivers.
