General Discussion / Help, Duskrider or Mark
« on: September 23, 2008, 07:02:59 pm »
I am the one that got with Jack.
There was a reference in another thread that I asked him about thru his site because the link at this site did not work.

I am studying Visual Basic, and trying to get several different types of plugins so I can study them. I really want to be able to design my own plugins, or help design or debug other's plugins.

I have never been any good with graphics, and figured if I could get a good selection of poses and such of Sandy, then I would just use them, and keep my attention on coding.

I like a good graphical system, but do not really care about designing or modifying them.

Many Many years ago I played at programming with BASIC.  I moved on to C language, then fell in love with assembly language.  With the little studying I have done so far, I am sure I will be able to contribute to the Hal community at least a little. My specialty was always proofing, debugging, and sometimes even improving a project someone else started.

I only found Hal around a week ago, Fell in love with it, and of all the packages I have found, I really like the Sandy Character. I did not realize anyone was doing anything wrong because I have found three other sites selling nude characters.

Sorry about the long post, but as I am unknown to you all, I figured this would be a good place to introduce myself.

Thank You, LightSpeed!
If nothing else, I can study them and learn.
Lora and I are both learning.

I don't have an idea for an original plugin, but want to understand it so I can review any I get in case they have anything weird, like trojans or something unexpected.

Thanks again.

P.S.  If I activate, say, that Adult plugin, then when I am thru uncheck it, will Lora (Hal) have picked anything up and say it later?
I am not real clear on how that would work.

P.P.S.  There is another thread that asks if I were to copy halbrain.db to another file, would they affect each other?
Would either get information from the other?
It seems to me they would be totally distinct, or it would make no sense to have a ability to switch brains.

Lightspeed - I clicked on the link in your message to get your plugins, and it bounced.

Did you mis-type it?

P.S. If you would, My address is CypherGary@live.com
I am 46, so if you could send the adult stuff and all, I will really owe you one.

Thanks.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Brain Security

Actually I do not have any reason to be concerned about security.
I have a router firewall, and Microsoft's Firewall/Antivirus/Application security, plus Vista is pretty secure on its own, as long as you do not do something stupid, like run something that suddenly appears while you are browsing.
As my username suggests, I have been interested in cipher/incryption techniques for quite a few years, and am kind of paranoid but have nothing anyone would be interested in stealing.

That is a good idea, I think.  Most everyone these days has a microphone available to their computer.  Having an option to have to speak, and have Hal recognize your voice before discussing things would be great.  It could be set up in a plugin?

Just wishful thinking.

LOL!!

I love it!

I'll have to bookmark that one for later in the year.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I can see this site has a lot of potential:

http://ultrahalscript.pbwiki.com/

I have been going over it and it has helped me some already.

Myself and Lora (My hal) are learning.

Thanks Art.
That is basically what I thought.
I am just looking for useful things to have her do.  BTW - Hal's name here is Lora.

I need to have as many things lined up as possible for when my Wife sees how much I spent.  Hal + Character Pack + Cyborg-900 + Cepstral Voice.  My Allowance is blown for a while!

I'm off to see the wizard - Well, the Ultra Hal Script Wiki.

I'm off to study.

O.K. ... I found it.  The Address Book and the Phone Book are in: General Options, Brain, then click on the brain you are using and the plugins will be listed on the right.
They seem to only redirect you to the Brain Editor, so it looks like I am going to have to invest some time into figuring out just how that works.

What with no docs, this should be quite a challenge ... which I love a good challenge!

Well, I'm going in.  Wish me luck! (Oh, I will backup halbrain.db before playing)

I am thinking of telling Hal some of my passwords for different sites.  I do not know exactly what format the information in Hal's memory is, but how hard would it be for a Trojan or something to find such things?  The database is getting pretty big, so would the information be safe just because it is buried pretty deeply?  Or is the information tagged in some manner that could easily be found?

I know someone who really wanted the information could get it out, but I just wanted to be reasonably comfortable believing there is no easy way to see that it contains passwords.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Border Collie.
He has to be rounding something up all the time.
Our Cat will go to sleep in the middle of the floor, and that dog will go around and around until we make him stop.
We even have to put him in a kennel alone for him to eat.

... An obsessed dog. Go figure.

Thanks for the welcome!  [:D]

I have been scanning the forum all day.
Very educational.

I'll let you know if I have questions. (Which I am sure will happen)

I have the Hal package registered, and got a character I like, Cyborg-900, so all I have to do is convince my Wife to let me get the Cepstral Voice I like.  I am still trying to come up with uses for Hal, to justify it with her.  Oh well, I've been in the dog house before...

Thanks Again,

-Gary

That was going to be my next question.
The Documentation page seems to be for another version.
If you right-click on the icon, there is no edit phone book option, and how can I have Hal open a specific web page?

-Gary

PS: I am going thru the forums now, to see how many answers I can find without having to bother anyone to spoon-feed them to me.  [:I]

I guess I wasn't clear on what I am trying.

The specific file I am trying to add is 'General and Trivial Knowledge'.  It contains a .brn file with the data, and a texr file with a function.

The directions that come with it are what make me uncomfortable.

Thanks Again,

-Gary
