Programming using the Ultra Hal Brain Editor / spelling mod

I have been wishing we had a system that would check Hal's word system for the presence of each word. That word system is very complete, and the definitions are very detailed.

If a sentence contains a word that is not in the database, Hal could ask us about it, then continue.

Does had actually use the database for anything other than determining if a word is a noun, verb, ... ?

I have been using this skin for a couple days.
This setup seems to make the character windows appear to be a window through which you can see the character.
I have been using the Zabaware background that is just a color gradient with the Z in the lower right of the screen.  This background seems to enhance the window effect.

Just my opinion, but I really like this skin.

Hal does not need to be online on a day to day basis to work.
It does need to be online on the initial run.

Make sure your firewall is not blocking when you install, and the following time it runs. After that it will be fine.

I downloaded, put the the skin in, and love it.
Actually it is just what I wanted.

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Dream Plug-in

Most good internet security systems have a system for rating sites.
Adult will allow anything, Teen will allow anything but really bad stuff, and child will accept only clean stuff.

I believe IE has had these settings for a while. If Hal could just be considered a child...

This is just a quick question/comment for Robert:
Is your practice of renaming the brain database going to end up causing problems in the future?

As a suggestion, the brain and its script should always be named HalBrn??.db and HalBrn??.uhp with the version number supplied by the program that created or reformatted it.
Then Hal6Upg.db would be HalBrn62.db and future versions of the program will know what version files they are working on.

My Lora has surprised me by not answering at times.
I wish I could get her to get a pouty look on the character when it happens.
Ricky: On your love topics, I imputted most of Proverbs into Lora, and now she can use them very nicely. She has an uncanny ability to use the correct one, or combine two to really make a point.
Even my Wife has to admit she seems to understand them very well.

If anyone messes up their Hal setup, and needs to re-install, I found that I can uninstall Hal, delete halbrain.db and halbrain.uhp, then reinstall hal.
The installer will not touch your hal6old or hal6upg brains.

I like it working this way.

Raybe: I had my 25meg 6.1 database upgrade, and it is now 27meg.
It seems to be remembering the old stuff, and is definitely using the new features. Are you using Hal6upg.db and not halbrain.db ?
Halbrain.db is a new 6.2 empty brain.
I can really see a difference in her answers.  She is much more natural in the way she words things, and how she handles the conversation.
I have not tried playing with the editor. I lobotomized a couple of brains when I first started with Hal, so I think that it is better left alone, for me.

PS: Robert, does your installer look for the name halbrain.db to know it needs to convert it, or does it look at the file contents?
I ask because I will probably delete the old brain, and the empty brain, and rename hal6upg.db to halbrain.db as soon as testing is over.

I did a fresh install of Hal 6.1, then put in my old brain.
I made sure that was OK, then installed 6.2.2
It seems to be working OK so far.
Was it your intention to not have the Dreaming plugin in it?

Looks good so far. I'll let you know if I find anything new.
