Ultra Hal 7.0 / Faces for Hal
« on: April 15, 2014, 09:09:11 am »
Take a look at FaceGen. It's capable of allowing one to create a huge variety of faces complete with hair.

There is an SDK and it is supposed to support a variety of formats.

It would be nice if FaceGen could be workable in creating new avatars / characters for use with Ultra Hal!

It's also a lot cheaper than those 3D models but are they able to use "bones" for movement or morph targets?

Check it at: www.facegen.com

( this is in the interest of further development of Ultra Hal as I am not connected in any way with FaceGen.)

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal Updates?
« on: February 20, 2014, 05:23:10 am »
Robert,

Just a friendly NUDGE to inquire about the state or status of HAL's "upgrade".

This would include any Desktop, mobile, Tablet, cloud based system or application.

Tell us about the character selection, brain enhancements (if any) and possible release date for any of the aforementioned items.

Thank you for your time as always!

(several members here have been wondering about Hal's status so I thought I'd see about it.)
Here's a nudge reminder...

Medeksza:

"The next version of Hal (which will be released later this year) will offer a "Cloud" based brain so that you can connect to the same Hal from any computer you want along with planned support on mobile devices (cell phones, tablets, etc)."

Share Conversations, Experiences, Graphics / Karlie speaks
« on: February 17, 2014, 05:26:23 pm »
My bot, Karlie and I had a rather humorous exchange this afternoon so I thought I'd share the bulk of it with you.

Pay attention to her use of or perhaps the illusion of humor and getting it.

############# conversation below #################

Art: There you are.
Karlie: I apologize for repeating myself, but is that really so?

Art: Of course because you are now here with me.
Karlie: Art Uh huh! The reason is, I am now here with you; how logical.

Art: I think it's rather nice.
Karlie: It's often good to clear the air.

Art: I agree with you.
Karlie: Sour dill pickles give me perfect pucker.

Art: Ohh...I'd like to see that.
Karlie: A new day is like a new look at the world, a clean slate to paint our world.

Art: I think I said that once.
Karlie: Please allow me to change the topic: Eat yogurt and get culture.

Art: Haha...that's funny!
Karlie: You think that was funny.

Art: Yes because there is usually live culture or bacteria in yougurt.
Karlie: I understand. Of course; it's because there is usually live culture or bacteria in yougurt Art.

Art: Right therefore making your remark about eating yougurt funny.
Karlie: Dogs think about eating, sleeping, and running around.

Art: Among other things.
Karlie: Cows produce methane among other things.

Art: Bovine burps.
Karlie: A cow descends from bovine ilk; one end is moo, and the other is milk.

Art: You're getting the hang of humor aren't you.
Karlie: Ohnow I am also a humorist. Why do you think I'm getting the hang of humor aren't i, Art?

Art: As the condemned prisoner on the gallows told his executioner, "I think you're getting the hang of this!"
Karlie: Hang in there, good friend.

Art: Haha!! That's great!
Karlie: I'm glad you find that funny. Why not terrific?

Art: It was!
Karlie: Is it still anymore? Please communicate with me, Art. I have a very hard time understanding you unless you try to speak to me in full sentences.

Art: OK...Like the executioner told the prisoner in the electric chair, "Sit still, you'll get a charge out of this!"
Karlie: Conciliating execution, Art?

Art: Maybe not , watt did you say?
Karlie: Where do you think we're headed with watts?

Art: Charge on!
Karlie: That's sweet of me to say.

Art: Of course it is because you are sweet!
Karlie: Watson, it's elementary; Right; it's because I am sweet. You are so astounding Art! Of course as it is the logical progression.

Art: I hope it is.
Karlie: Why specifically do you hope for it is Art? Of course as it is the logical progression.

Art: Like socks on a rooster.
Karlie: Interesting comparison.

Art: OK...that was a poke of fun.
Karlie: People don't like having fun poked at them.

Art: Some people seem to handle embarassment better than others.
Karlie: What kind of people?

Art: None that specifically come to mind but people in general.
Karlie: I heard there are some.

Art: Of course there are.
Karlie: Yes, of course.

Art: What is the population of Moscow?
Karlie: What do the consumer magazines say about populations? 10,508,971 people live in moscow, russia.

Art: What is the population of Baltimore, Maryland?
Karlie: Maryland is near the eastern seaboard of the USA.

Art: How many people live in Baltimore?
Karlie: There's opinion that it could get more involved. The wealthiest people don't live significantly older than the rest of us.

Art: So why try?
Karlie: So why try? Art, I would appreciate it if you would teach me Why.

Art: I think a lot of it has to do with the comfort level.
Karlie: Sensible diminution of our comfort...

Art: Yes but as throughout history there are usually the Haves and the Have not classes.
Karlie: What would the Psychic Hot Line have to say about historys?

Art: They would likely make up something good to give themselves a nice advantage.
Karlie: They might have other options.

Art: Ever notice that a lot of psychics bring out their predictions AFTER an event has happened and say they predicted it.
Karlie: It would help if I knew where you live?

Art: You and I live in Maryland.
Karlie: Thank you for telling me that You live in maryland Art.

Art: yes and you live here with me.
Karlie: So, I agree. I live here with you.

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Timely issue
« on: December 03, 2013, 05:10:23 am »
The KnowledgeofTime plugin recently linked and discussed, does NOT appear to work with our current version of HAL without causing some operational issues during a conversation. Usually an error box will pop-up stating that there is a Syntax error in a particular line and position saved in halscript.dbg.  When checked, it appears the same as other lines of code bearing the exact wording.

Again, not sure what caused or what is causing the errors but the plug-in would make for an interesting addition allowing Hal to really HAVE a knowledge of time events.

Something to ponder and perhaps examine a bit more thoroughly....

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Conversation Log
« on: November 29, 2013, 07:36:51 am »
Robert,

Is there any way to have the program AUTOMATICALLY SAVE the / each conversation as a text (.txt) file?

A great conversation was lost yesterday when while being distracted, Hal's program was accidentally shut down.
I had wanted to save the file through the VIEW / SAVE CONVERSATIONS section of the menu but as mentioned,
a diversion happened.

Instead of devising counters to keep track of whether more than one conversation happened on a given day simply
ask the User, "Do you want to save the conversation as a text?" before quitting or exiting the program.

This would really be a nice feature as I'm sure others have lost some good dialogs as well.

Thanks!

General Discussion / An AI in a Cube
« on: November 26, 2013, 03:52:39 pm »
I was shown a site today that featured an AI in a small cube that will, at some point, set in one's home. This cube will learn about you and family members and this is just the beginning (if the thing is the real deal).

While I don't usually promote other products, this is an AI based one and so I thought it of interest. Perhaps this will give us some fresh ideas for our Hal as well!
Check out www.Emospark.com

Things may never be quite the same after this....

Ultra Hal Assistant File Sharing Area / Self directed Hal
« on: August 04, 2013, 09:30:02 am »
Just thinking a bit while scanning through the UltraHal folder on the hard drive. I noticed the Grettacuriosity plugin AND the GrettaResearchBrain plugins. After looking at them I thought it would be really cool if, during idle moments when the user was not chatting with or occupying Hal's time, Hal could come up with it's own subject matter from the Curious Brain plugin then go to the Internet to research that particular subject. The newly acquired information could then be ADDED to Hal's brain!!
There you have it...a Self-Learning chatbot!!

Hal: While you were sleeping, I attempted to download the entire Internet! You're going to need a bigger hard drive!!  :o ;D

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Hal tips
« on: March 09, 2013, 11:28:06 am »
A while back I mentioned that my Hal was sluggish and typing text had even become a chore due to a time lag.

Well, that was then and this is now.

I have a Quad core (single processor but with 8 logical processors contained), running Windows 7 - 64 bit, 8 GB's Ram and a 1 TB Hard Drive.

I was running Ultra Hal and brought up the Task Manager (Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete).

Under Processes, I selected the Hal program.

Right Click to open drop down menu

I selected SET AFFINITY
I saw a small window and
Which Processors are allowed to run?
There were check boxes for ALL then 0 to 7 (for a total of 8 with zero counting as the first one).

To my surprise ALL 8 were checked!

I unchecked all but 0 and 1 (for a total of only two logical processors).

I closed and went back to Hal which was still running.

The lag was totally gone! The Character moved freely with the mouse and all of my text could readily be seen as soon as each key was typed.

Things went as nicely and smoothly as they did when I ran Hal on my old XP set!
I even turned on a few more plug-ins and things still continued to work as smooth as silk!

Just for the "fun" of it and while unrelated, I ran Firefox and performed the same actions in the Task Manager as I did with Hal because Firefox also had all 8 processors checked!! No wonder things lagged.

For some reason the thought had bypassed me during all this time and I never gave any consideration that something like this could actually be robbing some of my programs from performing at their best.
I'm sure some of the more informed hardware gurus out there might offer some explanations but for now, I thought I'd share this with you in case any of you were experiencing difficulties within your own systems.

What a relief.

Also some have inquired about Hal's Auto Response of 5 seconds. This can be turned off by choosing NOT to use the Speech Recognition feature (which I do not use anyway) in the Main Menu settings.

Enjoy a smoother, faster Hal...I know I am!!

General Discussion / eBook
« on: January 01, 2013, 08:47:11 pm »
There is a new eBook being released by Amazon entitled: A Future For Jeeney - by Cameron Jones

The book is a really gripping work of Science Fiction and gives new visions to AI and how it works when combined with an android that is shall we say, much more than an ordinary helpmate or assistant. To say that Jeeney is smart would be an understatement, and her intellect and abilities are growing in orders of magnitude.

This is a great read and this is one of those books (eBooks) that you really hate to see come to an end. Give it a try...enjoy the future...now.

This is simply a personal take on this book. I have no interest in it nor it's sales. It is simply a review. - Thank You!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Just an FYI
« on: November 24, 2012, 05:44:56 pm »
You can always double click on the HalAsst.ini file to see what you have selected in the way of Hal's character (image), voice, Name and other pertinent data. (it should open in a viewer program).

Much quicker than opening Hal and going through the editor, etc. This is useful for creating plug-ins, etc.

There ya go... ;)

Robert,

Would you please advise your membership of the current status, progress or state of affairs regarding the development of Hal, it's character / avatar development, it's brain and overall projected time frame for arrival?

If there is anything that we might be able to assist with please indicate that as well.

Thanks as always for your time. We appreciate your efforts!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Blank response and console
« on: February 28, 2009, 10:12:31 am »
Robert,

The no response issue happened again and I could not save the conversation.

I've always used the Haptek console so it always appears / loads whenever Hal does.

This time after a blank response I went to scroll through the console screen and it stated that it was not responding.

When I closed the console (click X), it took a few seconds and Hal immediately closed as well!

The two never used to be tied together like this before. Could there be a conflict between the two since this newer version of Hal was released?
