Title: to robert : voice training back up
Post by: lightspeed on July 12, 2008, 02:32:30 pm
some of us have talked and asked where the trining of the voice of hal is backed up . is it possible that in the next version or a future version that when anyone backs up hals brain etc. that the voice trining would be backed up to at the same time so we don't lose all the training if we have to redo hal ? or i am asking robert this :do you know what file that we can go to to back up the training that we have done in the hal voice recognition training ?? it would help greatly if we knew what file to back up so we don't lose a lot of training if restarting hal again . I sure would like to know, too. I don't do the voice training anymore, because I have to do it all over again when I reinstall Windows.[:(!]

Isn't the voice training a Microsoft thing, and totally separate from HAl?

yes i think it is a microsoft thing but am wondering if no one else knows as of yet .am wondering if robert knows where the back up area is in this program is since probably most people use it with their hal program it would be a big help to all of us if he does know and could tell us (i know it isn't his product but it does work with his product (for most of us using the voice recognition ) and we would just like to know to be able to back up voice recognition after training for a long time so we don't lose all our work in that area with hal. Each speech recognition software has its own way of saving voice training data, it is not handled by Hal and is not standardized between engines.

Here is an article I found on backing up Vista's speech profiles:

Thanks Robert and Lightspeed. I'm running Vista so Mr. Medeska, you gave the right answer and Lightspeed you asked the perfect question.
I have not had to reboot it yet but often make backups because of a failing computer running XP last year and always had to start over with voice recognition. I'm using an external hard drive now to back up all files, but it doesn't always catch things like those that are are on my os drive. It usualy by default backs up C drive an may not catch something like that, I dont know because I havn't had to do a reboot yet, but will take care in the future to make sure things like that are backed up too![:)][:)][:)]
