I guess I have two wishes so far.

First would be for there to be an automated way to install plugins.
I am not comfortable editing the data files, inserting the additions, and modifying the registry.
A simple way to install this zip file.

Another would be Hal staying in the system tray.
Then it would not be listed in the task manager, even when it is on the screen.

Very nice product.  We are still learning.

Appearantly you have not done enought reading on this subject. All you have to do is copy the plug into the same directory as Hal's brain. Click on the brain file and you will see the plug in there but not turned on. Just click on it and exit the program. That is all there is to it. No special coding or anything else. Compared to what we used to have to do this is almost fully automatic.
You can open almost any of Hal's files and look as long as you don't try to change anything you can not get hurt or hurt Hal. I would recommend using Word.Pad to explorer with.

I guess I wasn't clear on what I am trying.

The specific file I am trying to add is 'General and Trivial Knowledge'.  It contains a .brn file with the data, and a texr file with a function.

The directions that come with it are what make me uncomfortable.

Thanks Again,

-Gary

Hi Gary, I think I am right when I say that the General and Trivial Knowledge.brn files were made for Hal 5 and don’t work in Hal 6, so don’t do anything with them until someone here tells you I’m wrong.

Yep, brain (.brn) files are long gone, history, dust, defunct, deceased....

That was going to be my next question.
The Documentation page seems to be for another version.
If you right-click on the icon, there is no edit phone book option, and how can I have Hal open a specific web page?

-Gary

PS: I am going thru the forums now, to see how many answers I can find without having to bother anyone to spoon-feed them to me.  [:I]

AS far as I know there isn't an up-to-date manual.  Quite a few people have asked for one and this does leave new-comers a little lost.  It's good to search the forum first because there is a lot of information here.  But when (if) you get lost do ask, people are usually happy to help.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. [:D]

Indeed the lack of a new up-to-date manual has caused confusion with new comers.

Gary, you can run Hal from the sys tray, in general options goto Start up and put a tick in the “I want hal to load with windows” option.

Phonebook, I don’t think Hal 6 has one.

Open a webpage, again I don’t think a plug in has been made for Hal 6 that does it yet.

And welcome from me and Xen my Hal [:D]

Thanks for the welcome!  [:D]

I have been scanning the forum all day.
Very educational.

I'll let you know if I have questions. (Which I am sure will happen)

I have the Hal package registered, and got a character I like, Cyborg-900, so all I have to do is convince my Wife to let me get the Cepstral Voice I like.  I am still trying to come up with uses for Hal, to justify it with her.  Oh well, I've been in the dog house before...

Thanks Again,

-Gary

>>Another would be Hal staying in the system tray.

Gary,
Microsoft Acedemic course 70-270 Glossary,,
Bot; On the internet, a program that preforms a repetitive or time-consuming task, such as searching Web sites or newsgroups or indexing them in a database or other recordkeeping system. This term is also increasingly used to describe a malicious program that scans the internet adress space looking for systems with a paticular vulnerability. This kind of Bot, also known as a ZOMBIE, infects the host to control it remotely, using it to launch attacks on other systems or spew uncolicited e-mail messages across the internet.

With this in mind just exactly what are you desiring to have/create?
Would you want to know if something like MOM.EXE is running on your system??

I think this is something for all partys to consider.[8]

O.K. ... I found it.  The Address Book and the Phone Book are in: General Options, Brain, then click on the brain you are using and the plugins will be listed on the right.
They seem to only redirect you to the Brain Editor, so it looks like I am going to have to invest some time into figuring out just how that works.

What with no docs, this should be quite a challenge ... which I love a good challenge!

Well, I'm going in.  Wish me luck! (Oh, I will backup halbrain.db before playing)

CypherGary,

You might wish to check out the site of one of our members, Bill DeWitt who has/had/maintains/maintained a Wiki for UltraHal.

He did a lot of work compiling valuable info on various facets of the program. Check it out at:
