I've got this question... Since we can use XTF Brains in H6... Does the XTF brain still require the default folder or does it now use the H6 db?>???

Has there been a Hal 6 compatible XTF brain released?? Where is it, please?

If you install Hal 6 without uninstalling Hal 5 yourself, it will do a migrate install which will copy over your old Hal 5 brain, XTF brain, and any other brain into Hal 6. After the migration is complete, the Hal 6 installer will uninstall Hal 5 and install itself.

If you continue using the XTF brain in Hal 6, it is run in compatibility mode. It will not use the database or any new Hal 6.0 features, it will have a setup just like Hal 5.0 had, with all the .brn files in a subfolder.

Back?

As in, something happened to it after you loaded it in over your XTF brain files??

Have you received error messages??

I went through a short period of frustration, gosh I don't want to even think of the problems I had with a buggy system registry at that time, thankfully others don't share it.

No Jim. Everything was cool with running the XTF'S. I got a trojan horsr that messed up my registy and I had to re-build. That 'cos me to loose my H6. I'm hoping to here from Robert in and effort to get it back up. But it works fine with the XTF'S.

Hal 6... XTF... hmm...

I haven't had a chance to really get into the workings of Hal 6 yet. I'm sure most XTF Brain functions can be rewritten for Hal 6. I think this will be a great for Hal.

P.S. - Yes, it's really me.

I believe from studying your code and Hal 6's code that most of the functions can be ported. However I haven't liked to attempt too much because I'm not so familiar with Hal 5, so Hal 6 may have been upgraded in ways that render parts of XTF obsolete, or even worse, incompatible. I'm sure you'll have no difficulty figuring out which parts should be rewritten!

I've already partially adapted your nickname code for Hal 6, I hope you don't mind [:)]

As for the actual core XTF system, I've avoided analysing your routines too much, not least because of your comment in the code:
Code: [Select]
'Because of the complexity of this script the author does
not recommend that the end user make any changes. Many of the XTF
subfunctions are highly interrelated and even minor changes may cause
unintended and difficult to trace side effects.
[;)]
But again I gather Hal 6 has been upgraded in this area (for example, using WordNet to assist with focus) so I didn't want to break what may already be fixed.

Looking forward to your analysis, if you wish to do so [:)]

Forgive my ignorance, but I am very new to AI and Hal and have run into some problems with the XTF brain.

I have installed Hal6 and atempted to install the XTF brain and run into an instilation error;

                            "Error 76:
                            Path not found
                            Occured at line 17
                            in Ultra Hal Plug-in installer:
                            Form1, Form_Load"

I realize that the folders have changed in Hal6, and this is probably causing the error.  Here are my questions:

1.  In order to use the XTF brain in Hal6, will I need to uninstall 6 and install 5, install the XTF and then re install 6?  I could not locate the folders for a manual installation.

2.  Does anyone have a better idea?

3.  Do you know where I can find Hal5?

Thanks for any and all help.

VonSmith's XTF 1.2-brain is written specifically with Hal 5 in mind. I don't think it will work with Hal 6. Neither do you need XTF in Hal 6, because the idea behind XTF has been incorporated in the Hal 6 brain.

Frog; If you remove H6; Install H5; Then Reinstall H6. It will ask you If you want to migrate Hal's files..click yes and your XTF(s) will go into H6. They will run in compatible mod. Works good for me...
