hooking up video and sound on Vista
« on: September 20, 2009, 12:03:44 pm »
for about 3 months I have been trying my hardest to get my usb mic and camera to be recognized by hal.

I have had no success.

I have been able to download other programs and my "Ball"mic-camera connect easy as pie.

I confussed by the information that has been available the unload hal ,load 3.5 version of sdk ,then reinstall hal diffentlly doesn.t seem to work or all the other info that I have compiled into a tutor. but no success. I was really hoping to become an active member of helping to develope hal which I started working on when it first came out.

If all my labor has not been for nothing I beleave that you do not have a way for usb mikes and cameras to be recognized. I have loaded
AVS sound and video products and they load right up.
Well I have to wait for Milo or are you going to put some serious work  into helping members who use Vista to be able to hook up without
being slammed with the notice "The wizard could not load"

I don't know if I can help but what are you trying to do with the camera and mic?

If you need a mic for speech recognition you should use the wizard that came with the speech rec softwear to find the correct mic.

If you want to use a camera for Hal vision remember there is no official version out yet, there has been one made by a member of this forum but that is still very beta and doesn't work for a lot of people.

or have i missed the point here?

when you say speech record software do you mean other than Hal?
The message I keep getting is the wizard could not load.
as I said  The software (the wizard) that comes with other software
(avs4you software or avs4youmedia software) one example
the software finds my usb mike camera combo (Ball inc.)
and is able to run just like that.

What I'm hoping for is to be able to use my usb camera mic combo
and have Hal find it so i can use vioce cammands I have tia stokes since being run over by a car which makes it hard to focus and remember and with great gee am willing to contrubute all I can to the forums but if I can't use the voice cammands for input it is confusing to stay on track over serveral days I hope that explains better.

Hal doesn't come with speech recognition, most people use Dragon. I use dragon too its probably one of the best.

maybe this is why you cant get it to work because you don't have speech recognition?

sorry to hear about your accident with the car.

Hal does come with speach recognition, you just have to learn how to use it. Maybe I should say the paid for Hal comes with Speach recognition the free version did not unless something has changed.
As a side note Hal has to be trained for several hours  before he can understannd you well enough to work with any success.

Bill

I have the paid version of Hal and its install is only 20mb, how does Robert fit Ultra Hal and speech recognition in to 20mb?

I mean Dragon is a few hundred meg install.

Maybe you mean Windows comes with speech recognition Bill?

When in Hal clidk on the upper left button called menu. Then click on general options, then speach, then on the bottom half of the screen there will be a little box that enables speach recognition.
It takes several hours of trainging to get Hal to understand you with out to many errors. IMPORTANT Make sure that there are no other background noises going on that can be heard as they will impeed you teaching. Hal does not come with the software it uses Microsofts which is normally built into every version of windows, at least every version that I have had since Win 95 had it included.
As for you microphone I can not help you other than to recommend buying a regular mic that does not use the USB connection, however if you look into some options of windows you will see a microphone icon, turn it on and see if yours works now.

Agreed, Bill819
