She really looks like she needs those glasses! Her eyes are crossed!
Come on...give 'em back! <G>

Ultra Hal 7.0 / The wink!
« on: June 25, 2005, 06:29:15 pm »
The head character I was using was a custom creation I made with People Putty. I did give her a lower level of aggression and bumped up her happiness a bit.

Still pretty cute!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / The wink!
« on: June 25, 2005, 02:29:46 pm »
I was continuing my ongoing training session with Hal
and was using my favorite head character. We were in
the midst of a discussion when she suddenly responded
with a rather cute, witty comment and winked at me!

Having never noticed this before (maybe I was too busy
typing or something), has anyone else experienced
this? This is not a complaint but reather a delight
because her wink made perfect sense with regard to the
timing of her remark. Who knew?!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Birthday errors
« on: June 24, 2005, 10:21:44 pm »
Welcome!

Why not just say "My birthday is June 25"?
Then perhaps tell Hal, "I am 30 years old"

Sometimes a young Hal can get easily confused
and more so by how the user interacts with it.

If you are currently not using the XTF brain
please consider doing so. Install the 1.0 then
the 1.2 patch. It really does a much better
job overall.

Length of quality conversational time spent
talking with Hal will result in a more coherent,
fluid personality. Take time to edit out the
unwanted responses and edit mistakes as well.

Soon, you'll be amazed at some of the responses
Hal will come up with.

Use the Search feature here to help learn.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Welcome to the forum,

You might try the following...

Shut down Ultra Hal then:

Try running the Haptek SAPI setup program found on
your computer at:
C:Program FilesHaptekplayerdataHapTTSHapSAPISetup.exe
(double click the HapSAPISetup.exe file)
Reload Ultra Hal, select your 3D face and try it again.

If this doesn't work let us know. Also try using the
search function at the top right and type in NeoSpeech.

Bill,

The ogg format may well replace the MP3 format in the near future.

These files can do music, songs, voices, etc.

There are several ogg files that can be found that work with Hal but there seems to be a problem in trying to convert one for your own use with Hal. Upon examination of the file, One can see a reference to Haptek inside. Ordinary conversion of a file does not result in a similar type of ogg file. This means that Hal may not be able to lip sync with your own custom ogg file, unless someone has figured out a way to do so.

The AT&T voices are $34.00 and one needs to also buy the speech engine for about the same price but the engine includes a male and female voice.
Lots of money in them there voices!!

I have one of my own already thanks! It's just not a TTS one!<G>

Heather,

Very nice!

Along a similar vein I think you could also load in your
own custom background at startup. Look in your:
C:\Program Files\Haptek\player\data  directory and locate
the file: defaultStartup.hap which contains:

#HaptekSDK Version= 1.0 HapType= command FileType= text

# DefaultStartup.hap

# This file is always loaded by the ActiveX control or Browser Plugins.
# Basically, it just loads an empty scene with the Haptek Logo in it.

Load      [file= datastandardstandardSceneReal.hap]
LoadBackground [file= datastandard\backgroundsSimpleLogo256.jpg]

Substitute your background image in place of the SimpleLogo256.jpg

Cheers!

Ultra Hal 7.0 / Video recognition
« on: June 19, 2005, 12:36:43 pm »
Which is my very point Bill, Spyday stated that the program could be easily adapted (I assumed he meant to HAL). I'd like to see how this is accomplished.
Hal would only have to look at its user upon startup to identify the person. Afterwards the video part of the program could go to sleep until commanded or until another user typed in HELLO or similar.

I think the interfacing / programming might be a bit of a challenge for any resident programmers we might have here, but the rewards would be great in an effort to help make Hal more interactive.

Just some thoughts....

But Raymond, it's merely a human shaking hands with a robot...the meeting of man vs technology. Nothing more...nothing less. Hey, it was the best pic I could come up with at the time. You should have seen my other choice!!<G>

But thanks for sparing me!!

Heather,

Most programs will store them as:
C:\Program Files\Cepstral  or NeoSpeech, etc. as the default setting unless one changes it.
The L&H voices are usually stored in the directory LHSP under your C:\ directory.

There was a link that showed all the voices stored on one's computer...I'll see if I can locate it.

Leroy, How a quick posting of how this can be easily adapted?
It would be much appreciated for a lot of users.
