Title: NeoSpeech Voice Text
Post by: tparker on December 20, 2004, 08:27:50 am
Does anyone know if the additional voices from NeoSpeech Voice Text are available for use with the UltraHal itself, or do they only work for the Hal Text-to-Speech utility?

Zabaware only offers the NeoSpeech Voice Text voices along with the Text-to-Speech utility, and for nearly half the cost of the Voice Text program alone if orderd dirctly from NeoSpeech.  So, it would appear that the Hal Text-to-Speech version of NeoSpeech is a limited version that only works with the Text-to-Speech program.  Is this correct?

Would I have to buy the full NeoSpeech program directly from the company in order to have Hal use their voices?  Is it even possible for Hal to use the voices from that program?  Or is using the Text-to-Speech utility the only way for Hal to speak in the NeoSpeech voices?

Just a guess, here, but since Hal allows you to select a voice from any/all the other speech engines installed on your PC, there's a likelihood that a Neospeech engine installed for Hal Reader would be accessible by UltraHal Assistant.

The NeoSpeech VoiceText is the full version, it will work with any SAPI 5.0 compatible application including Ultra Hal assistant as described here http://www.zabaware.com/reader/voices.html

I wasn't aware NeoSpeech sold directly to consumers. Where did you find that? I know there are at least 2 other companies selling NeoSpeech including NextUp.com and Freedomofspeech.com. Zabaware offers NeoSpeech for significantly lower costs then either.
